I've heard rumors that 60 Control is now using plain english. I don't listen much, except for when I am at work, but it doesn't seem this way. I know it has been talked about for a while a move this way, but anything official?

Training, as important as it is, is irrelevant to my feelings and my post on this issue. You can have all the training you want, but if you don't have the ability to equip, LEAD, and properly deploy those trained firefighters, then the training is useless.

Very touching and well written Jim. Sometimes events like this make me wonder what purpose God has for us all. And it only leads me to believe that there really is a higher purpose for all our beings. The support from us, whatever you may need, remains bottomless. We will always be there for you guys. Is it just me, or does Mount Vernon FD have a new patch/insignia??? The logos on the door look different to me.

My question is why do those people from that podunk little town get to play with the FDNY Tillers, and I don't? Man, what I would give to be able to shoot one of those.

So the starring salary for an FDNY Medic is only $16.75 an hour? There's gotta be something more to that...that's ridiculous!

What are the reasons for it's first due? Long stretches?

How can you have trouble finding property in Somers for a police barracks??? They have such an easy time finding land to subdevelop. SP Somers is a busy barracks, and needs to stay that....SP Somers

Important topic. Another thing to watch out for in FF resturants is the kitchen area. Often, these are small, narrow, cramped, and overcrowded with equipment and food.....easy to become trapped. IIf it's a big fire, and the building is cleared of occupants, IMO, there should be nothing done other then master streams.

Then why was a cirtain fly-car at a car fire in Bedford Hills last week!?!? CAUGHT!!!! I was there 1 hour after the knockdown, to visit with friends and relieve boredom, and to get photos of Bedford Hills apparatus. I will buff stuff at work, when I can swing it, but not on my own time except when I can.

I'll buff an LA City or LA County fire anyday! Those guys are awesome to watch and photograph, and easy to photograph too!

Well said by BFD1054. One of my points that I was trying to make is that I don't feel it's neccesary to commit three pieces of apparatus to a simple wires down call, nor do I think it's necasary for a chief to call every 3 minutes for an ETA. That only ties up the dispatcher and the Con Ed dispatcher more. They know the wire is down, chances are they have multiple customers calling as well in regards to a power outage, so they will be there as soon as they can. I agree with calling once an hour for an ETA though, or as special circumstances require.

Today, Jetblue announced they will be flying out of Newark begining in October. The first routes will be to several destinations in Florida. Introductory fares will be $69 each way for any travel booked for Oct-Dec with Thanksgiving blackout period. Definetly cheap if you want to go to Florida in the fall. Moreover, this will bring competion among all the carriers in the NY area, so if you're looking to go to Florida, you will be able to fly down their quite cheap! Jetblue also announced they will begin delivery of their 7 new Embraer E190 jets. These are smaller then the typical Jetblue Airbus A320's, and will allow Jetblue to serve more regional type airports from JFK. RUMORED routes for these new planes include JFK-Boston at $59 each way (Want to buff Boston? Sale fares may be lower then that) JFK-North Carolina, JFK-Virginia, JFK-Clevland. These planes will also free up the Airbus form lower yield routes for increased frequency on other routes. As goes with all JetBlue planes, these will have leather seats. They will be two abreast instead of the Airbus three, with a single aisle. There is also 36 channels of LIVE DirectTV and 100 channels of XM Satellite Radio at every seat. JetBlue is the official airline of x635. I love their customer service most of all. Also, if you are looking to go to Code 3 day in LA this fall, they now fly JFK-Burbank. In our area, JetBlue flies from JFK, Newark-Liberty, and LaGuardia. RUMORS are floating that one day, they MAY come to Westchester County Airport, and Stewart Airport. www.jetblue.com
