With Erica being as "injury prone" as she is, she is defiently the person to teach others how to prevent them All kidding aside, good job with this unit! Are you planning on visiting the schools as well on a regular basis? (In addition, the new website is great!)

I shoot almost exclusively with the Tamron 18-200 Digital lens with my Canon D-Reb . I find it to be an extremly versatile walkaround lens, and I'm pretty happy with it. The only problem I have with it sometimes, and it's not really a big deal, is the slow or sometimes off autofocus. But for the range you get with this one lens, its really nice. It's also a pretty good value. I wanted to go with a Canon lens when looking for a new lens, but they did not have one designed for the D-Reb with the range I was looking for at a good price. I also believe 901 shoots with a Tamron 28-300 lens. I prefer the 18-200 range, because I need the wider angle when shooting apparatus. For sample shots taken with this lens, check out my Baltimore/Firehouse Expo shots...link's on the front page.

Apparently, the new Discovery Channel Reality Series "Firehouse USA:Boston" has been delayed until the fall. The show, which one episode was shown as a sneak preview in June, was scheduled to start airing Tuesday nights at 10 begining July 26th on the Discovery Channel. Now, the DSC site says "premiering in the fall", and rumor has it that the show is being moved to make time to reedit several episodes, gain more "action" footage, and to give it a more favorable timeslot. It's too bad, because I was really looking foward to the start of this show.

I just wanted to take time out to wish two friends of mine Happy Birthday! Jim Arena (x2211) 7-28-05 Happy Birthday! Martin Mcgannon (2532) 7-29-05 Happy Birthday!! Both are celebrating their "Over The Hill" birthdays! And both were born a day apart at Northern Westchester Hospital. Jim and Martin, your strength through tough times are always inspirations to us all. Happy Birthday!

I don't know how the FD could do it...in NJ, ALS has to be Hospital based. I personally don't see letting the FD do it as the best move.....the Fire Service on the EAST COAST tends to do EMS improperly or treat EMS as an unwanted division.

I understand you just made a suggestion , and I am replying to you with my opinion on that suggestion. First of all, not everybody is a "buff", you are correct. Some are educated professionals that know the department numbers they need to know...though it could be easier if we identified by a station number. Also, the "repeat message" and "unit reidentify" you speak of...that is mainly because of radio traffic congestion on 46.26 and people who don't speak clearly on the radio. It's my opinion that it would turn 46.26 into even more of a cluster then it already is if we had to add a redundant word to every transmission. Again, there is only ONE Engine 164, and that's Ardsley. Why would you add 2-3 seconds to that transmission by adding a word that's already there? Just like when I call "45-M-1 10-17". I don't say "Northern Westchester Hospital 45-M-1 10-17" because my identifier states that itself, and there's no need to repeat myself and add to the radio congestion.

I'm for ANYTHING that makes an ambulance safer for the crew working inside!! =D> Thumbs up to this project, hopefully it really will serve as a springboard for mass-production improvments! These were the photos of the prototype, I don't know if they reflect the actual bus. http://www.amr.net/news/media/images/news_...it_photo_18.jpg http://www.amr.net/news/media/images/news_...it_photo_17.jpg

Umm, no they shouldn't They'd be redundant and waste airtime There's only one 2191, only one Engine 164, etc. When speaking on the radio professionally and cleary, there should be no confusion. You say ENGINE 191, not 191, etc. Car TWO ONE NINE ONE, etc. Of course, a modern day radio system would have unit identifiers come up on the dispatchers screen when they call, and vice versa in the field.

Let's not forget that firefighters should keep hydrated all day long, not just post-incident. Also should include a sensible diet and excercise year around. IC's should alot for shorter work cycles, and increased rehab time in a cool area. Also, I like agencies that endorse a summer or extreme heat uniform. I wonder if any agencies bring in a Bee Line bus for cooling, and do the AC's on these buses get cool enough?

If I'm not mistaken, the bond vote was for 2 Engines. I believe Harrison already had the line/funds for 1 engine.

You know, Jim explained it to me and the whole "switched at birth" case is really convincing. Martin shoud really be doing his 2nd term as 2212 now!! Anyways, Happy Birthday again to both! Save me some cake!!!

I believe there is a study underway that, like Narcan, you can give Glucagon intra-nasally. Which would make it easier to get onto BLS rigs, since you won't have to deal with needles and IM injections. Then again, mothers of diabetic children are trained how to give Glucagon IM.

It's Engine 13. I'm dying for a few spy shots!! Anyone!!!

Depending on who I talk to, I hear different things about which borough Riverdale is actually in. Is Riverdale Manhattan or the Bronx???

Well, looks like the House has passed a massive new Energy Bill. Next up is the Senate, which is expected to pass it as well. One of the provisions of the bill extends Daylight Savings Time by three weeks earlier in March, and extends it one week until November....meaning we we will have sunlight later in the evening earlier in the Spring and later in the fall. Energy Conservastionists say this new bill will save/conserve thousands of barrels of oil. The electric industry says it will conserve power However, the Airline industry says it will screw up their operations, as does Canada. Pretty interesting news. I'm not sure how/when the DST change will take place. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/c..._cda_daylight_2

I think Ardsley has the nicest patch, very unique, and detailed. Also has a very old and neat history to it.

An interesting concept in Police Car lettering catching on in the Michigan area. I found on another board. http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?...0064&p=72189743 The lettering is reflective, however "low profile" being a light shade, and low contrast with the car. I'm just curious if any agency around here uses this concept. I think it's a neat concept for the slicktops.

This is the place to add your captions and speculation on the photo posted of DFFD227 IFO Ogden Engine Co. What do you think he's up to????

Just some of my random thoughts... This is my profession, something which I have INVESTED a lot of time, energy, and pride into, and something which I make a living off of. I have been in EMS for 8 years, 4 as an EMT, 2 as an EMT-I, and 2 as an EMT-P. So I'm quite familiar with all ranks in this field. Respect with EMT's for me is not automatically given, it is EARNED. (Same goes for firefighters and cops and ESU Officers) When I started as an EMT, in a busy urban high volume system, I was automatically assumed incompetent by my peers until I proved myself otherwise, and found that to be the case in most systems. I fully agree in medicine their is a pecking order. As far as the "big words" comment, where I was trained as a medic, and where I did my rotations, I was always taught speak professionally, get treated professionally. A paramedic is a medical professional, and should use proper medical terminology. It also gains more respect from the MD's you are working with. Yes, ALS ambulances ARE hospitals on wheels....they are an extension of the Emergency Department. In general, an ALS provider can typically provide the care found in the first 15 minutes of an ED visit. Another thing is EMT's using the lame excuse that their skills are detiorating because of Medics being there!! That is a load of CRUD!! You get what you put into it! If you show intiative and are ASSERTIVE, you will get to use your skills and your will learn. I was taught this early on as an EMT, and I learned so much and got to use all my skills, even when working on an ALS bus. Also, most Paramedics I know show up in uniform. Many VAC EMT's show up in all kinds of casual clothing. Nothing is meant to offend, but IMO, not only does this present an unprofessional image, but it is hard for the Paramedic to differentiate who has what training. In addition, you have EMT's doing non-emergency medical transportation, which degrades the image of an EMT. And to answer the question that started this thread, their are still plenty of EMT jobs out there. Just gotta know where to look. Also keep in mind there are a large number of volunteers providing EMT's, so that is another reason why job oppurtunities on the EMS side may be limited. EMT's are a important part of the EMS team. Howver, I foresee their current role changing greatly over the next couple of decades. And BTW, just because someone has a different opinion than yours, or thinks differently, does not make it "bashing". I don't care if I offended anyone. I love my profession, and I want the best image for it. I love the EMT's I work with, and I always do my best to use my position to educate them and set them in the right path for this profession, just like my medics did for me when I was an EMT.
