I know there is going to be some conterversy about this Ladder. A new photo by FDNY1075 is posted as the feature photo, www.emtbravo.com But I think this Ladder looks quite HOT! The paint scheme is AWESOME! It matches the EMTBravo.com scheme, lol! (Blue and grey also happen to be my favorite colors) I really like the way this TL looks! Even though I'm a big believer that apparatus should be red or Hartsdale/Elmsford green, this is what makes fire apparatus so interesting!!! I hope TTown FD will use it properly. BTW, the only thing that bothers me.....I have heard through a friend who spoke to an ALF rep at the NYS Chiefs show that this Ladder cost $1.2 million. (I doubt the paint contributed to it, becuase it has to be painted anyways, right?) If that is true, then that is outrageous....I wonder if that is the most expensive apparatus in this county. What do fully loaded ALF Eagle MM towers go for anyways nowadays??? Any idea where they are going to house it yet?? Also, this will be a second ladder for them, or are they disposing of the E-One RM????

University Of Medicine And Dentistry New Jersey, the EMS provider for Newark and East Orange, NJ runs a heavy rescue staffed by two highly trained EMT's. They are the primary automotive extrication agency in the city, and also provide technical rescue, tactical EMS, and bariatric rescue. FD and PD also run heavy rescues, but specialize in other roles. The EMS Rescue also responds on 10-13 calls, lift assists, etc and are frequently requested mutual aid for advice. Due to the situation of the area , this rescue runs on numerous pin jobs and legit rescue jobs a week, sometimes a day, and usually has the car stabalized and the patient out of the car within 5 minutes of arrival...with 2 crew members. It is a promotional oppurtunity for the EMT's of UMDNJ, and requires a lot of training and ride time/interning before they even consider to consider you for the position. These guys maintain a lot of there own equipment in house as well, including the hydraulic rescue tools. And as I said...it goes way beyond autmotive extrication. I'd say it works very well for the City Of Newark. And this is the only full-time, paid EMS Rescue in the country I believe. For more information on Newark EMS, I highly suggest reading the awesome book "Into The Breach: A Year Of Life And Death With EMS"

Check out the cover of this months Fire Engineering (August 2005) The photo on the cover, of a general alarm in Yonkers, was taken by our very own EMTBravo Network Global Moderator & IA Chief Truck 4. Congrats to Truck4!!! Additional Truck4 Photos From This Incident Can Be Seen Here, at OnTheJobNY.com Photos, including an EMTBravo Exclusive, which was used as a feature photo, were also seen on EMTBravo.com

I was curious if anyone on this board has tried Chipote and loves it as much as I do? I wonder why we can't have one in the Westchester area??? For those not in the know, Chipotle is a good food quick place. They serve gigantic burritos stuffed with fresh variety of ingredients that you choose and watch them build right in front of you at a cheap price. All food, like the steak chicken and carnitas is also marinated and cooked fresh daily. My favorite is the carnitas burrito, with rice black beans sour cream and cheese. The actual resturants also have a really neat look to them as well. They tend to locate in "corporate" areas. http://www.chipotle.com

Don't forget that your microphone holder clip needs to be grounder, and the mic needs to be in the clip for the radio to scan.

Really a nice idea. I'd love to see a firefighting and EMS museum in Westchester....there's certainly a lot of heritage and history.

Apparently, I found out the Bagel Emporium.....the small Westchester chain with the good bagels and now-closed outlets in Hartsdale and Ossining, among other locations, has a still existing store in Armonk. I couldn't stop, but I wonder if the bagels are still as good. I miss the one in Hartsdale.

Thanks for the info! Are these the ones new and the ones the Granite chasis that I heard were being built a while back? Seen any photos yet?? I'm a big fan of the Granite chasis, and these must look hot painted and lettered for FDNY. Besides the superficial reasons, it's a really neat concept. I wonder if there are any other POD plans beyond Collapse, like Hazmat? Also, who built the pods??

I just want to say that Mohegan's new Injury Prevention unit is, IMO, a really good and really progressive idea. It's the first in the area that I know of of this type. Mohegan has a comprehensive Fire Prevention program, and this is an excellent extension of that. It's time every agency starts working on injury prevention and EMS outreach/education just like FD's do Fire Prevention.Just like fires, many injuries and EMS calls can be prevented. And people need to know what to do in a medical emergency. Can one of our members from MVFA-VAC tell us more about the equipment and teaching tools this unit carries?? Nice job Mohegan! I hope to see this idea taking root all over the area!!

I'm sorry....I've yet to find a "true" bagel shop in Westchester. There used to be a few, like the "Bagel Emporium" with various locations....they have since closed. The rest that HAD good bagels seem to let the quality slip into an ordinary doughnut shaped piece of bread calling itself a bagel. And the bagels at the various shops I have visited also seem to be shrinking! I attribute this to Bagel shop owners becoming lazy about quality and letting anybody make the bagels. What happened to the true "baker"???? Hartsdale Bagels has decent "true" bagels, but not every time I visit. I use the H&H bagel as a benchmark. Boiled, crusty on the outside, warm steaming moist and chewy on the inside. I'm tired of dry poser shrinking bagels!!!!!!!!

They have a really good pad on the roof of University now. "The Penthouse". About the only vantage point, about 8-10 stories up, that actually makes Newark look nice!!

Although the replies by ALS and Remember585 were awesome, I want to reply too. So that the caller and agencies being dispatched get a dispactch center staffed with professional dispatchers (notice the plural), in a centralized and properly equipped facilty. Which will actually SAVE time. Way off base and wrong. Most automatic alarms come in via digit, MOST MVA's, Fires, hazmats, etc come in via 911. Who's calling who a fool here??? 60 Control Dispatchers know the area a lot better then you think. I'd rather have dispatchers with a good knowledge of the system, a GIS CAD and trained to properly interview callers then someone who "knows the area". What does that have to do with the subject at hand??? NOTHING!

NJ State Police own and fly the helicopters. University Hospital (Newark-Northstar) and Atlantic Regional Healthcare (Atlantic City-Southstar) EMS provide the staffing and equipment. Rumors are abound in the state as to the future of the program. I think the only thing that is for sure is there will be some significant operational changes, and new aircraft.

I was reading this on another board: Thank god that officer walked away. This got me to thinking. Should police package vehicles be beefed up in any way to promote officer safety???? It's being said that traffic accidents are bigger killers to police officers then guns nowadays "Traffic Accidents Kill More Police Officers Then Guns" http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/a..._deadly_roads_5 I personally think items, such as a beefed up frame, enhanced seats and belts, intrusion bars and a rollcage would help tremendously in the ever increasing danger that is common traffic.

I'm just curious about the uniformity aspect of things. Maybe it is so that all firefighters look the same way, and have gear that operates the same way. I see the liability issue, but that can be circumvented by having the chief approve the gear first.

I go to this parade every year. It's my favorite, and the fair attached to it is pretty neat as well. Hopefully Bethel will bring their rescue and Stony Hill will bring their new Enforcer, and maybe this year it won't be raining so I can actually get good photos of them!!!

Great article that really brings to light an often forgotten, and emerging aspect of the job.

Do you think KME has the current capacity to handle this, or will they have to set up an additional/new, seperate line as to not disturb other customers apparatus production????
