  1. I have heard that the "Spirit Of Louisianna", the 2001 Ferrara Inferno Engine donated to FDNY after 9-11 that served at Engine 283 and presently at the BOT, was Landol-ed down to NO,LA with the FDNY convoy to show appreciation for the gesture and connection with the state. My questions are, has anybody seen photos of this engine in action down there yet (I know I have seen several photos of FDNY FF's using a Tele-squirt, but not the Infernon) and are they going to leave the Engine down there??? I know NOFD's fleet must be in some poor shape by now. Just a side note, Ferrara, and the State of LA, also donated a RAC unit, a Decon unit, and several cheifs sedans after 9-11, in addition to the Engine.
  2. Just saw (and heard them state) on Channel 11 News at 10 that FDNY sent the Spirit Of LA, 6 Battalion vehicles, the (Dennis Leary donated 2005 Freightliner/LDV) mobile command center, a rescue truck (Freightliner/E-One?), and a supply truck. In addition to some buses carrying firefighters.
  3. I just wanted to share this awesome article regarding the LA City FD and it's sirens.
  4. Mike ALL new LAFD ambulances, as well as all the new 2004 Seagrave Engines, all have the Timberwolves. Unfortunetly, I totally forgot and did not have another oppurtunity to hear the Timberwolf...I was so overwhelmed in a good way with other things, it totally slipped my mind. I do hear it sounds AWESOME, just as good as a Q though! As for the cost, I'm not really sure. I willt try and find out.
  5. Wait, Hebe leaving Seagrave......American Lafrance being sold, maybe we have something here??? I wonder who will buy them?
  6. LOL, Tommy! I thought CVS had the Kodak Machines that were fully automatic with processing film. I've also heard good things about Wal-Mart too, even though I don't use film. However, although the "little guys" may be more expensive, it may be worth it for quality. I've heard great things about those "mail-away" film places, but I'd be too worried about my film getting lost in the mail to use them. Andy, you are stuck in the 19th century! Seriously, time to go digital. Even Truck4 and JJPinto shoot digital now, lol!!! Believe me, it will change the whole photography world and concept for you.....and think, all the money you save on processing, you can buy a good camera (Canon 300D) and a good photo printer!
  7. The correct term for Brush/Forestry in Westchester County is "Subdevelopment".
  8. Does anybody know what resources, Emergency Service or Public Safety, have been sent to the areas affected by Katrina? I know FDNY has sent a team, but has the local DMAT or any other local resource or department sent equipment or manpower?
  9. I have heard rumors that Thornwood is getting a $550,000 new supposedly Pierce. Anyone know for sure what they are getting, specs, and when it will be delivered and what it will replace?
  10. I have posted the photos and blog entry from my trip to Los Angeles 8-26-05 to 8-30-05 Thanks again to Orlando (LAFirePhotos) for making it such an awesome trip! I had a GREAT time! View The Photos Here:View The Photos By Clicking Here And Read About My Trip In My Blog Entry By Clicking Here Feel free to ask me any questions on this thread about the things in the photos!
  11. Wal-Mart's response is definetly interesting. I guess at the moment, they are not so evil...
  12. The Engine I rode with, LA County Engine 33, did 5,867 calls in 2004. Engine 33 is in the Antelope Valley, contracted by the City of Lancaster for Fire/EMS services. Lancaster is kinda an out-there rural city, I think, lol. The other apparatus in Station 33: Quint 33 did 2,084 runs and Squad 33 did a whopping 8,306 runs. Each run is individually counted by unit. Engine 33 and Squad 33 are the busiest in the county, and the country. I can't believe a week has gone by since I had the oppurtunity to ride with them, it was such an awesome experience and hope to have the chance again one day (after I ride with the city guys)....Station 33, a great group of guys. There are some runs stats available here: http://www.lacountyfire.com./modules.php?n...article&sid=115 I'm sure Orlando can elaborate some more....
  13. Live audio feed of LA State OEM, FEMA, and NOFD relief efforts at http://www.firefeeds.com/feedroom/la-neworleans.html Haven't heard anything over this yet. Anyone been listening?
  14. In speaking with a friend, I was informed that Ferrara Fire Apparatus' Plant, which is located in Holden, LA survived, but many of it's employees homes and lives were devastated by the storm. Since both Mount Vernon and Pleasantville are slated to recieve multiple pieces of Fire Apparatus from Ferrara, I think it would be a cool show of support for firefighters from those departments to do a boot drive, supply drive, whatever for the employees of Ferrara affected by the storm. It would definetly be an interesting way to show a community connection.
  15. I really like that idea! Let's also not forget that these charities, and people, will not only need money now, but long into the future, after this event has dropped from the level of attention it's getting now. So there's plenty of time to pick up that extra shift if you can't afford to do so now...
  16. Thanks Andy. My host really knows how to show an LA buff....err, enthusiast a good time!!! I asked the same question to the Engineer assigned to 56 while it was at the shops having a minor repair done. He said that towing incapacitated apparatus is one of the many roles of HR56. However, that happens very rarely. As far as the In 'n' Out menu goes.....the simplicity of it is one of the reasons it is so good. In 'N' Out does not own freezers, microwaves, or heat lamps, nor do they use preservatives in their food. EVERYTHING is fresh....the fries cut from a potatoe right before your eyes, lettuce hand-leafed, milkshakes from real ice cream, fresh beef, freshly baked buns from sponge dough all delivered in their own shining Kenworth TT reefers with a cool paint scheme. The burger is cooked and topped to your specifications on a griddle. No need for a big menu, they focus on what there purpose is and do it well....burgers, fries, and shakes....although their homemade lemonade is great too!!! You're exactly right by saying they are not the larger places...they put Ronald to shame!! For more about In N Out and its freshness, click below http://www.in-n-out.com/freshness.asp
  17. I also forgot to add in my blog.....the LA County Squads...they are MANUAL transmissions....which is AWESOME!!!
  18. We all need to help the victims of this devastating disaster in one way or another. Many of these people had nothing to begin with, and now have even less. If every one of us pitches in to some extent, we can help our fellow citizens affected by this disaster recover a little bit easier. Remember what this nation, and the people of New Orleans, did for for us after 9-11. Among the many things they gave us, was FDNY Engine 273, the Ferrara Engine donated with several other pieces of apparatus including RAC 2. I'm sure Ferrara and it's employees have been hit by this as well, and a few members of this board will in turn be affected. Find more information on how to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina Here: http://news.yahoo.com/fc/world/hurricanes_...tropical_storms
  19. Actually, I only had In 'n' Out once! Between having a couple of great meals at Orlandos (Yes, even the California version of pizza was actually pretty good in it's own way...and so was the BBQ, its cool we both have the taste for the freezer burgers), and all the awesome meals we had at the various firehouses that invited us to eat with them, it made me forget about In 'n' Out. Shrimp tacos, homemade guocamole, burgers, sloppy joes, everything was great! The time I did eat at In 'n' Out though, at my home In 'n' Out in Inglewood, was AWESOME though! I love that place! There are so many good places to eat that I like in SoCal ! Why can't we have that here????
  20. I agree with this thought, I was actually thinking something similar. The tankers for the north county ARE the hydrants for the north county. So, if all those resources go to a far community because their hydrants are out, then what is that doing to the north county? In effect, it's putting their hydrants OOS. My idea would be for the county to purchase 2 or 3 used water tankers, and place them strategically in reserve status. If needed, use the many county DPW tractors to pull these when needed.
  21. Thanks for the explanation, LAFirephotos! I had a great weekend, thanks again, and am now having severe LA withdrawal, lol! I'm glad everybody is enjoying the photos.....Don't forget that either LAFDFirePhotos (Orlando) or I would be happy to answer any questions about the photos or LA operations. Also don't forget to check out http://www.LAFirePhotos.com for many more LAFD photos and information. Also, somebody had asked me about the Timberwolf sirens, and so I wanted to share this awesome article. http://emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=6441 As for the ducks, the seals and whatever those duck-like birds were subsituting for the ducks, who were away on vacation.
  22. Was having a discussion with a friend the other day about two different names for the same function....FAST and RIT. Seems like different areas of the country use different terminolgy, but those seem to be the most popular. I personally prefer RIT. I think the terminology "Rapid Intervention Team" describes the role much more powerfully then "Firefighter Assist And Search Team", which sounds kind of bland. Also, I think RIT is clearer to say and easier to understand. Just some thoughts on a relatively simple thing.
  23. Just curious as to the whereabouts of Stamford Engine 9, the Pierce Telesquirt, and curious as to what the reserve fleet consists of now that the new engines are in.
