It's in rough condition, but Chicago is auctioning off this very unique piece. It's a 1975 Mack MB600 Turret Wagon, custom built by the Chicago Fire Department shops. The twin hydraulic Stang monitors are capable of flowing 20,000 GPM. http://www.publicsurplus.com/sms/auction/view?auc=1534758

Friend of mine put together this short video. Pretty funny. Disclaimer on the corny title of this thread. Video by Ben Saladino

Any idea what this unit will be used for? It IS NOT an ambulance. To my knowledge, it is the first time FDNY has used this vendor (Custom Truck And Body of Georgia, link below). It also looks like a Chevy or GMC HD chassis. FROM (and more build photos at): http://www.customtruckandbody.info/index.php/progress/fdny/

$1.3 million, as expensive as it sounds, is what a Tower Ladder with those options are going for these days. Considering they expect to get 30 years out of the truck, that's pretty economical. They also got some trade in from the old ladder. Plus, Carmel does see a decent amount of fire duty each year. However, all Putnam County Departments have Towers, and most surround Carmel. Brewster, Patterson, and Mahopac. There's not a straight stick and all, and no ladder whatsoever on the east side of the county, although I think Mahopac Falls, Lake Carmel, and Putnam Valley all have them in their long term plans. I would link someone would want to fill this niche, especially with the narrow and windy roads and long driveways in Putnam. The Quint debate can go on forever. I think, for this actual department and what I know about the, that this truck will fit their diverse community needs. In the tight areas of Putnam, the first due has to get close to the scene, especially in tight areas, and having that Quint first due allows it to get to the fire scene before it gets trapped in by hose and a tanker shuttle. The only thin I question is the black ladder, not just on this truck but many others. I wonder about it's visibility at night and smoke. Other then that, I love the paint scheme! Can't wait to photograph it.

I've heard that Dobbs Ferry will be replacing their awesome 1992 Mack CF/Aerialscope, one of the last ever built on a Mack chasis, soon. I've heard rumors of a Pierce and a Rosenbaeur, and that one of the considerations was weight on the apparatus floor. Does anyone have specifics?

Bump for this weekend.

That goes without saying that an elderly population is going to have legitimate medical calls. My issue is that these people are falling in the first place. The facility requires each patient to be transported to the ER for evaluation regardless of suspected injury. This facility is supposed to be an upper scale facility, with a high staff to resident ratio. Why are all these patients falling in the first place?

Keep 'em coming Ron! Loving them! Thank you!

The injured firefighter was released from the hospital today. I can only imagine what it must have been like for that Incident Commander to have to process 3 maydays at one time.

Another question from my sponge of a brain, does anyone know what happened to that Mack/Aerialscope?
-
Thanks for the info, guys. That Secaucus Rosenbaeur TL is really nice. I also heard it has a really nice turning radius, which is important when making that very sharp, tight turn out of the firehouse onto Main Street in Dobbs. As for the Mack, I wish I had the money. I know many collectors that are salivating over that truck.

I'm glad to see Danbury getting a drone. They really have progressive leadership that will take them to the next level in the near future (and I hope that one day that includes a second truck company). I love the promise of drones, I think they are a great asset to help make critical decisions, and I'm interested in the protocols. Who would carry the drone? Who would be trained and assigned to use it on the fireground? Is there a specific model that's best for firefighting and rescue use?

Awesome information jp103! Thank you!

Thank you Andy for the info, and Ron for always having the pics! What year was that Scope? Did Pleasantville have both at the same time? When did they get rid of the ALF Ladder? And what did the 1995 Spartan/Aerialscope replace?

How many calls did your department in Westchester run last year, and how many notable incidents?
