  1. I've always wanted to check out a drive in movie, thanks for the reminder and heads up! It would be so much better in a convertible though......
  2. After reading several news articles lately about BioDiesel cars becoming more and more popular, I wondered if there are any special precautions you use when attacking one of these vehicles on fire, or in an accident. I haven't seen much in the way of training material on these mostly homemade systems. These cars run on used cooking oil, which are (usually) stored in a tank in the trunk or bed. If a car gets rearended, this sometimes poorly made tank or hoses could easily rupture and spill a large amount of vegatable oil on the roadway, making for a slippery scene and also a fire hazard. Just something and yet another thing to consider when doing an automotive-related response. Anyone have any other input on this issue?
  3. I currently shoot with a Canon Digital Rebel 300D and a Canon Powershot S500. HFD23, it's also called the Hot Rod, lol...and you taught me that! Just to elaborate on it a little more, the Fire Alarm truck is staffed from Station 2 with two firefighter/electricians who maintain Hartsdale's proprietary Gamewell box system. As for the goats, I'm suprised no one mentioned the cows and turkey that are in there, and the fact their were no ducks this month. Thanks for the comments.
  4. Recently, my local roadways in my neighborhood have been invaded by a private contractor who is stringing fiberoptic cable for Verizon's new FiOs network. Their trucks take up one lane of the roadway in multiple spots, making the need for two flagpeople to control traffic. Sometimes, these flagpeople are at controlled intersections. Recently, while driving, we were waved through a red light by one of these flagpeople while at a three way intersection. My question is, what authority do these private contractor flagpeople have in controlling traffic, and can they legally wave you through a red light?
  5. My photos from April 2006 have been posted on EMTBravo.com As many of you know, I try to have one of my cameras with me at all times. For the past couple of months, I've been posting my "Month In Photos". It's representative of where I've been and the fun I've had for the previous month. This month is the most I've ever taken, and some really neat photos. I hope for May to be just as good, especially with spring in full swing. Note there are 70 photos on the page, so it may take a moment for all photos to completly load. Hope there is something for everybody in there. As a little side factoid, it takes me about 3-4 hours to choose, edit, upload, and post the photos. Any questions on the photos, feel free to ask. Enjoy!
  6. Today, Code 3 Collectibles posted photos of a prototype 1/64th diecast replica Tarrytown TL-78 in the Club area Workshop of www.Code3.netIf you're a Code 3 club member, check it out. Looks good, and definetly a piece I'm going to add to my collection. They state it's not guarenteed it will be made, it is only posted to garner feedback and if made, is a canidate for the fall schedule.
  7. I am SO happy to see the Arena's longtime dream complete, and a new chapter in their lives opened. It seems like so long ago when this was just a dream talked about while Jim and Gina sat by JimBoys bedside at WMC. I'm upset I couldn't be there in person during the unveil, but I was definetly there in spirit. I am so proud of all the people who made it possible for them, and how everyone worked together, in true spirit of what's been taught to us over the past couple of year. Looking foward to May 14th and the nation hearing the Arena's tragic and touching story, and seeing how much they deserve this gift. What a beautiful house for beautiful people.

  10. I just finished reading that article in National Fire-Rescue Magazine. The article is about Kentland FD, and the authors ride-along visit with them. I enjoyed the article. It's very interesting, to say the least.
  11. What makes this even worse is the Troopers wife was 8 months pregnant with their first child. All this over some idiot on a motorcycle who thougt he could outrun the police. Thoughts and prayers to this Troopers family, friends, and coworkers.
  12. Since Fire and EMS vehicles are often out and about around town, does your agency transmit a BOLO-Amber Alert from the region over your dispatch or primary communications channel or have a policy to retransmit the info ASAP?
  13. For those of you who aren't familiar with this story, I found this neat little synopsis in a press release on Alure's website. Alure is the general contractor for this project.

  15. Monday, April 24th 2006 Due to the weather, the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" team working on a new house for the Arenas have been set back a bit by the inclement weather. They are aiming to complete the house for Wednesday, when the Arena's will return home from Disney World to see it. . They are in need of volunteers to help out today and TUESDAY during the daytime or overnight hours!. If you can spare some time, any time at all, or know someone who can, let them know! Spread the word. Anyone can volunteer at this point, just go to the intersection of Lake Way and Entrance Way East- alongside the Lake Purdy's clubhouse in Somers, and sign-up. They will put you to work! It’s about 2-3 minutes off of I684 Exit 7 (North) Coming south about 5-7 minutes off of Exit 8 for an idea of where it is. Click Here For The Location Google-Mapped
  16. Recently, I've been seeing more and more used cooking oil and grease dumpsters appearing behind resturants. These dumpsters are meant specifically for the collection of the used product, and sometimes to fuel bio-diesel vehicles. Now, I would think that a dumpster fire in one of these containers would burn differently then a regular dumpster fire. My question is, has anyone encountered one of these on fire, or does anybody attack these fires differently?

  19. I'd love to do CME based recert. However, I'm not currently affiliated with any NY agency as a Medic, and I obtained my NYS cert through reciprocity from Mass, so I don't know if I'm elegible.
  20. Congrats to Jim, Gina and the Arena family! Yesterday morning, they were finally awoken by ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" team, who were there to begin work on their new home. 23. Just curious, is there anyplace in your jurisdiction that you fear for safety of your crews and intergrity of the structure if it were ever to catch fire? Where is it and why?
  24. OK, I know, stupid topic. As far as laundry detergent goes, I'm usually a Tide man. Standing in the aisle of Target, facing hundreds of choices for laundry detergent, I'm wondering if any of them can get my uniforms a little cleaner, a little brighter. Overwhelmed by each bottles claims to do something different, I settle on the same old orange Tide bottle. Now, my Tide does a good job, but am I missing something by always settling with Tide? Now, keep in mind, since I tend not to sit still, I come in clean at work and end up looking like Pig Pen from the Peanut cartoons by days end...dirt is quite attracted to me. So, what laundry detergent or method works best for washing your uniforms?
  25. Has anybody heard of any upcoming NYS Paramedic Refresher classes??? I know Phelps and WCC give them occasionally, but they mention nothing of them on their sites. Also, does Rockland CC or any other Hudson Valley schools give refreshers? Thanks!
