  1. From my understanding, it's in service. It's responded to a few calls already. Still awaiting lettering, should be getting done any day now.
  2. @letsgo1547 Decide for yourself. It's a pretty easy one. Wait around for the patient to be brought to you, or bring EMS to the patient for care as soon as possible...here are some good articles about it. http://www.nyc.gov/html/fdny/html/events/2013/051313a.shtml http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/04/27/we-can-never-get-comfortable-q-and-a-with-a-rescue-paramedic/?_r=0 I just wonder if the wheelbase could have been shorter. The Terrastars have a great turning radius I heard, and this is just as long as some other everyday FDNY apparatus.
  3. I was Google-ing just now trying to find out what Chappaqua TL-27 replaced, and I came across this Ladder sitting in front of Pleasantville's HQ. Where does this factor in?
  4. There's refurbs and then there's refurbs. You can do a few things inexpensively, or you can rebuild the truck completely, and that can get expensive, but still much cheaper then a new rescue. Thanks @ONLOCATION for the information!

  6. Over the past few months, I've gotten into my scanning hobby again. I listen to Yonkers 24/7. One thing I hear constantly is the 2 Battalion Chiefs running constantly. And if their is a fire, one of the Battalions is assigned as Safety. I know a couple of years ago, Yonkers had a Safety Battalion. Was that cut due to budget issues? I'd love to see a Battalion 3, in my opinion the call volume of the Battalion Chief necessitates it. I'm wondering if there is a request in the current budget, or if there are plans to bring back the Safety Battalion or add another Battalion to the city at some point. It's got to be a tiring job being a Yonkers Battalion Chief, running all over the city for most of your shift going to incidents, plus all the administrative stuff and paperwork they have to do when they actually get a chance to get back to quarters. Someone who has firefighter's live's in their hands should be appropriately rested and prepared.

  8. I've been listening to my scanners all day. Today was one of the busiest, most hectic days in Westchester in a long, long time, at least in my memory. There were a multitude of different calls, from structure fires to MVA's, many at tough to pinpoint and sort out locations, especially with numerous MVA's all over I-95. The dispatchers at 60 Control did a great job keeping up with everything. They really controlled the chaos. Strong work! On a side note, Yonkers FD dispatchers did a really kick ass job today too!
  9. And again today Yonkers FD Battalions are running around like crazy to legit jobs....Battalion 3 had to be placed into service. Yonkers also had to use an Engine Company (312) as Safety at a fire scene because Battalion 1 was on another job and couldn't free up. A Safety or Battalion 3 could have solved this and kept an Engine in service.
  10. EMTBravo.com has acquired the popular Facebook page, Westchester Fire Wire, because we did not want to see the page and all the effort put into shut down and lost. We thank Anthony Tufo III for his dedication to this succesful page, as well as the WFW team. We thank him for giving us the oppurtunity to keep the page alive. We hope to keep as many of the WFW team members who want to stay on as possible. We also look forward to adding to the page's continued success. More to be announced soon Seth G.

  12. This afternoon, I had the opportunity to photograph the fleet of the Shepherdstown, West Virginia FD. A very special thanks to Chief Morgan and his firefighters for their assistance in getting these shots. Shepherdstown, WV is located in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, located on the Potomac River about 1 hour outside of Washington, DC. It borders Maryland. The Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department is the oldest in the state, founded in the 1700's, along with Shepherdstown. Their first due consists of a dense downtown main street, and dense area of houses built in the 1700's and 1800's. The district also includes a major university, hundreds of acres of Revolutionary War battlefields, and agricultural properties. They also provide EMS. They raise all their own money for capital expenditures, such as apparatus purchases, via community fundraising, such as bingo, game dinners, and their famous apple butter. They are a very proud, and progressive department. They are an all-volunteer department, with 7 live in members. The only career person is the Paramedic provided by the County to them.
