  1. Wow. That's quite an enemy they fight there, and some incredible footage. I'm always at awe at the tinderboxes they have out there.
  2. From what I understand, there was a great level of detail that made doing this job quite tricky. It took a lot of talent, and it's very unique. It's kind of like the tile mosaics in the NYC subways. It's a lost art form.
  3. Awesome photos. It's always great when you have an oppurtunity to shoot that presents itself like that. Any word on the cause? It seemed to get going quickly.
  4. Beautiful rig and beautiful photos! I've got to get up to Rockland more to shoot...I want that rig in my lens! I'm also curious what's going to happen to the old 9-Tower...it seems to be in great shape.
  5. WOW! How did I miss this thread? (It was while I was away). Thanks for sharing this info Eli! I'm looking foward to the LAFD ALF tiller release. Most of the release schedule is remnants from the Orlando days though.
  6. If you want information on European High Pressure pumpers, there is a really good article posted on FireEMSAlpha.com, by Andy Fish. "Putting Water On The Flames: How Different Could It Be?" http://fireemsalpha.com/?p=10
  7. Stiloski's is advising that the second class will now be held. Billy Leach cannot attend on the 11-12th, but the course and hands on content will be the same. Also, Stiloski's is looking for 2 rescue rigs for both the Nov 4th-5th and Nov 11-12th classes. EMAIL x635@EMTBravo.com and I will pass along your information.
  8. Stiloski's is looking for any department that is willing to bring 2 rescue trucks for auxillary and extra equipment, please email me at x635@EMTBravo.com Thanks.
  9. For the next 36 hours, jetBlue is offering a $36 fare to Chicago. GREAT deal, the only thing that sucks is that it's wintertime. Still a good oppurtunity to buff Chicago http://www.jetblue.com
  10. Heads up......it's on right now!!! Discovery Channel, repeating at 11.

  13. Wow, that's AWESOME news, especially for our Orange County friends!

  15. As those who have spent time on the fireground know, sometime’s it’s hard to clearly see who’s who when everyone is wearing an SCBA mask. Another issue is that sometimes all masks look the same, and sometimes your mask gets inadvertendtly swapped with someone elses whether at the scene or in the station. I developed a simple solution for this that enhances fireground identity and provides for a definite way to know your mask is yours. Read what I did at FireEMSAlpha.com: http://fireemsalpha.com/?p=8 (FireEMSAlpha.com is currently in the process of relaunching and reloading content.)
  16. Stiloski's Automotive Corp is sponsoring a Big Rig Rescue Class in Tarrytown on November 4th and 5th. The class will be between 30-40 people. Capt. Morris from FDNY Rescue will be the lead instructor, assisted by Billy Leach, of Big Rig Rescue training (He has presented at FDIC, Firehouse Expo, and many other venues). Also, Holomatro, Hurtst, Paratech, and Rescuetech will be on hand to demonstrate their equipment and let you use the latest in extrication technology. Particpants will have the oppurtunity to practice heavy extrication on such vehicles as dump trucks, cement trucks, school buses, tanker trailers, etc. There will be a lot of hands on during this class. These vehicles will be presented in a variety of positions and situations. This class will be awesome, and fill up fast. FDNY recently hosted this class, and there is a photo feature on EMTBravo.com http://emtbravophotos.com/SpecFeat/FDNYHeavy.html For more information, contact me via EMAIL (not PM!) x635@EMTBravo.com and I will put you in touch with Stiloski's to register or find out further information. I have a copy of the flyer that I will try and scan and post this week Don't miss this awesome oppurtunity!
  17. Head's up to all Distubed fans.....Music As A Weapon III has been announced (I know I'm a little late on this one, but I've been traveling) [attachmentid=1432] I'm a HUGE Disturbed fan, and love their concerts. I've been to both previous MAW tours and loved them. This year, Music As A Weapon includes not only Disturbed, but Flyleaf, Nonpoint, and Stone Sour, 3 other bands I also love! They seem to always have kick a** bands on the MAW tour and this year is no different! Disturbed always puts on a great show. I will be seeing them in Amherst, MA Mullins Center on November 19th, I'm psyched! No NY area dates scheduled yet (only New England), but I'm hoping they'll hit Continental or the Garden so I can see them again. Anyone else planning on going?
  18. Today, I went to Double O's Resturant on Route 9 in Fishkill/Wappingers. Now, to the people who have been to a Cheesecake Factory resturant, isn't it VERY similar to that? The menu is the same in so many ways, lol. Decent resturant though. Although my favorite Dutchess County spot will alway be that diner in Hyde Park, I forget the name, but it's good stuff.
  19. "Inside American Airlines" is rearing Sunday night (10-22-06) at 9PM and 12AM, entitled "Inside American Airlines", on CNBC. This documentary is a 2 hour look at the operations of American Airlines. As mention below, CNBC was given unprecedented access to all operations at the airlines. It originally aired Wednesday night. Caught the show last night, and is a fascinating look inside the airline...especially their HUGE Tulsa, OK Maitainance facilty, which employs 7,000 people. Who knew? I learned a lot about AA.
  20. Check this out: [attachmentid=1426] This is the way, in the most recent LA City FD engines, that the crew rides. Keep in mind that LAFD also responds to medical calls and other calls where SCBA isn't needed. It's a career FD, and they spend a lot of time riding in the engine. However for when it's needed, the SCBA stores right next to their seat and is easy to grasp and apply. It is also very easy to check without having to remove from the bracket . As far as putting it on enroute, I don't think it's possible to apply SCBA and have your seat belt on, so. This design also allows them to put their turnout gear on the engine tunnel, and helmets in the helmet rack, leaving plenty of legroom. I hate seats with the pack in the back....they stick into your back when riding around, and they have you literally "riding on the edge of the seat". These seats are so comfortable, and the seat belt is easy to find and put on as well. I like this idea very much. These seats actually let you sit in the seat/ Around here, Yorktown FD's New Ladder 51 applies the same principle to its officers seat. [attachmentid=1427]
  21. I also heard that rumor. I think it was published somewhere. Although my favorite Targets will always be Mount Kisco and Bethel, I think this would be a great addition for Peekskill if it is done right, and a great source of revenue. Who knows what other kinds of business this may attract to that area, bringing more property and sales tax revenue? And it would take away business from the EVIL Wal-Mart.
  22. I have finally posted photos from my trip to Oregon last week. http://emtbravophotos.com/?p=8 I used the new EMTBravo Photo Managment system to post and display my photos. One of the advantagesI like about posting with this new system is that is easily allows me to add a description to each photo. Please let me know how you like this new layout. To read more about the new EMTBravo Photo Managment System, check out this thread: http://emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=13890 Also, made a quick blog entry on the trip. http://www.x635.blogspot.com
  23. Rob, that's awesome! I didn't know you had such an extensive collection. Pretty cool. You should send the photos to EMTBravo.com or let me photograph them for you.
  24. FDNY Exam filing deadline has been extended to November 3rd. This is a wake up call to all of you procrastinators. And if you're still "on the fence"......just take the test NOW....you can decide if you want the job later...IF you get to that point. It's not so much that it's FDNY, but it is a job as a firefighter....and they hire a lot of people, so your chances are decent. Even if you're on another list, you should take this test. http://nyc.gov/html/fdny/html/community/em...ent_index.shtml (PS There is a very interesting sound clip when you open that page...lol)
