  1. Among the chaos along the Mamaroneck flats, Con Ed has set up their mobile command center. It looks quite impressive, I can only imagine what the inside has to hold. Didn't even know they had this. (Special thanks to x901) [attachmentid=2520]
  2. Suppoed to be a 2006 Freightliner/Jerr Dan Rollback Car Carrier for fleet maintenance use. I guess this is why they bought the new Freightliners pictured above. [attachmentid=2612]
  3. White Plains DPW Fleet Maintenance Heavy Wrecker Ford/Holmes [attachmentid=2611]
  4. I believe that the storm we had over the past couple of days will happen again, more often, as Westchester grows and develops more land and ignores the maintainence of streams, rivers, runoff basins, etc. Also, the enviromental changes of global warming will cause this to happen more (that is debatable, but I just wanted to support my point below) Does anyone in the area have "High Water Rescue Units"? I'm talking about those huge Memphis chasis ex-Military trucks that are high and can drive in deep flooded water. Yonkers has something similar http://www.yfd.org/images/appHaz-Mat-Support.jpg but I'm not sure what they use it for. Along with a hovercraft and trash pumps, this I feel is a neccesity for DES to obtain. We spend so much time preparing, training and equiping for Tech Rescue. Hazmat, etc but more common things like an event of this magnitude that's been happening more and more lately are ignored. If they have the money to obtain the two pieces of Technical Rescue apparatus I understand they recently did, then there's more then enough money and grants to provide swiftwater training, buy a couple of hovercrafts or flat bottom aluminum rowboats, a trash pump trailer, a high water rescue vehicle, etc. There is such duplication of services, redundancies in apparatus and equipment, it's ridiculous. When it comes down to the bread and butter emergenices that happen frequently, we're tottally lacking the equipment we really need while our hazmat and tech rescue equipment, even our engines and rescues, collect dust.
  5. OK, a question for my Yorktown friends. Yorktown DPW is located on Front Street, and has yellow trucks. Yorktown Sanitation appears to be located behind Police Headquarters and has orange Macks. Are these two seperare departments in the Town Of Yorktown? Also, I noticed ( http://x635photos.com/displayimage.php?pos=-878 ) some were equipped to plow. Does the Sanitation fleet asisst in plowing in a normal snowstorm?
  6. But the trucks have the Yorktown seal on the doors, and official plates. Are they Yorktown owned but operated by a seperate company, kinda like Bee-Line? Also the plow question.
  7. This was the old Empress Paramedic Supervisor Truck 2. I remember it was the favored truck by the late Lt. Tom Salvatore, an Empress Paramedic Supervisor Shield 301 who died at 32 after a long battle with Lupus. We miss you Tom. [attachmentid=2577]
  8. This was posted on Railroad.net by member "Playdough" Seems like a cool place to take a tour of.
  9. Mohegan had this oddball ambulance as Rescue 33 that didn't match the two Type I Chevrolet/Swab ambulances they had at the time. Does anyone know the story as to why this ambulance is different? [attachmentid=2576]
  10. Ardsley Police Car 96. This was Ardsley PD's first "new style" Chevrolet Caprice, after the final redesign before Chevrolet squashed the PD popular Caprice from it's lineup. Also, this car's graphics were different. Before, Ardsley PD had white over light mettallic blue cars. This all white with this kind of striping only lasted a couple of cars before they went to the Ford Crown Vic/Police Interceptor with Whelen Super Edges and strobed out, and with beautiful and unique custom graphics. This car's lightbar, the Federal Signal Streethawk, was also an upgrade over the boxy Federal Signal Halogen Lightbar, forget the model name. It's interesting to note Ardsley PD has upgraded again, now Dodge Chargers with Sound Off LED packages. Also, this was taken when the Ardsley PD Station was located behind the Ardsley Firehouse, so this photo was probaly 1995/6ish [attachmentid=2575]
  11. Fairview's old Utility 7, which was the former Rescue 3 up until 1996. I can't remember what the fate of this vehicle was....I thought it went to the Greenburgh's town's Civil Defense fleet, but I hardly ever see therefore know those vehicles. [attachmentid=2574]
  12. I'm curious. Did Pleasantville get hit with any flooding from the Saw Mill River during these recent bouts of rainstorms? If so, did the NYS*DOT "fix" of paving it higher work, preventing the parkway from flooding?
  13. Yup. It was a 2 door Explorer Sport, the original body style. It was the Clinical Supervisors car. #5, I think.
  14. And here was their idea of a module. GREAT inside layout, however the use of fiberglass and plastic, the way they did it, is not going to hold up well. [attachmentid=2548]
  15. Here's the front console of a Demers ambulance. I love how they intergrate it with the dashboard. [attachmentid=2547]
  16. Around 1998ish, this ambulance appeared in the Mount Vernon ER bay. I believe Metropolitan Ambualce (merged with Transcare to become Metrocare then transformed again into Transcare-this bus has been repainted for each chage) was the first in the area to have a Demers, maybe even the first in the country. I was impressed with it at the time, I do like the inside layout, especially the front console, but the inside-way too much plastic that will not hold up well. [attachmentid=2546]
  17. Here's a very strange looking ambulance (at the time, 1998ish) from Metropolitan Ambulance. Of course, now everone knows a Demers, but Metropolitan Ambulance was the first in the area to have this Canadian bus. (later know after merger with Transcare as Metrocare then back to Transcare-this bus has been striped through all three changes) [attachmentid=2545]
  18. Eastchester Rescue 5, a Brockway! And I believe Saulsbury body. This sat at the Bronxville station of Eastchester FD next to Engine 29 for many years before being given to the county. It still ran and drove, however it had severe body cancer. I remember the sticker on the officer side dash that said "Sit Down, Shut Up, And Hold On". It was then sent to the DPW Purchasing garage on the Grasslands Reservation, where it was ultimately disposed of. It's too bad Eastchester didn't replace it with another Mack. [attachmentid=2544]
  19. Two of OLM's buses when they had a cool scheme: [attachmentid=2543]
  20. Here's the way Empress's yard looked in December of 1997, when I was first hired as an EMT there. Anyone remember 39? [attachmentid=2542]
  21. Also, I blogged about this. Read it here: http://x635.blogspot.com/2007/04/simple-so...ster-river.html
  22. While on duty, after executing search warrants at a heroin stash house in Hartsdale in December, Senior Investigator Stuart Cohen of the Westchester County District Attorneys Narcotic Iniative (W-DANI) contracted a severe, and mysterious illness which turned out to be fatal. Stu had been hospitalized since December 10th, 2006, and passed away while in a coma at the I.C.U. at Cornell in Manhattan recently. Extensive medical exams were conducted, with no diagnosis made. Needless to say, his family faces a great loss on many levels. Stu is a former officer with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority PD, and the Hastings Police Department. Stu is also a volunteer firefighter with Hastings FD and a karate instructor in his off duty time. 23. Does anyone know who was awarded the bid for Bee-Line's new Express coaches??
  24. Just a reminder, the New Jersey Metro Fire Photographers Photo Night 2007 is this Saturday. (and the West Patterson event is Sunday?) http://www.njfirephotos.com/test/photonight.htm Although I wish I could go (mainly for the apparatus shoot), I can't. I know someone will get and post some good shots, pass along this link.
  25. I'm mainly reffering to not sharing here on the forum. As far as people complaining photos don't get posted, some photos I can't use or don't have time to post or am not able to. How do you post a single, grainy, poorly lit nightime shot of a rig in a garage? Or several poorly framed or blocked shots. To be blunt, look at the photos that are posted on the site. That's what I'm looking for. Not crappy shots. I don't want to be a photo snob, but it's the clean, well lit, properly framed, nice photos of recent incidents, new deliveries, unique happenings, and most of all "spy shots" that have the best chance of being posted. I post good photos that are of interest to the general membership of the site. If you read my latest update on photo posting, I reccomend each member establish their own online gallery. People expect a lot from me, and don't realize or appreciate it takes a lot of my time to post their photos. I'd like to also add I'm always looking for that great feature photo for the front page. A single GREAT shot of action, new apparatus, spy shot, etc..
