  1. Recently, I've been noticing more and more Police Traffic Enforcment cars with these "bug eyes" on the top. I assume they are some type of radar system, but what is it and how is it unique or different? [attachmentid=2684]
  2. I always get the two confused, what's the difference between a reserve and a spare? I think a spare is equipped, and a reserve is not...or vice versa?
  3. As someone who has to depend a lot on public transportation, this would be great in Westchester and on Metro-North.
  4. Because when you have that lettering on, you essentially are driving a big business card. That type of lettering and seal, the public associates with emergency services, especially with the lightbar still on.
  5. An interesting deal.. http://www.pwia.org/relations/lawenforceme...an_program.aspx
  6. I really wanted to go (as I did L.A. where it's Fire Service Day), but I'm not allowed to drive for the time being plus I don't think Metro North and a Bus would get me there in a timely manner :-( Plus too long of a drive or ride for me right now. Sounds like a great event. So somebody get some photos for me!
  7. As many of you know, and the current feature photo is, North White Plain's "new" Engine 75, a 1983 Pierce Arrow 2000/500 that formerly served Blauvelt (Rockland Co.) as Engine 1-2000. North White Plains works with an extremly limited budget, and they've taken this Engine which was in great shhape and put the NWPFD touch on it. Here are some bonus photos. THE WAY IT LOOKED WHEN THEY GOT IT CAN BE SEEN HERE: http://www.fdnytrucks.com/images/otherstat...uvelt1-2000.jpg (FDNYTrucks.com external link) [attachmentid=2647]
  8. Great article from BC Williams @ http://battalion14.blogspot.com
  9. It's about time they upgraded from halogen Federal Signal!!!! Those bars were awful, hard to see. Strobe is a step up, but wonder why they didn't go with LED bars?
  10. I'm looking to see if anyone on this board is from Westwood, NJ FD, or has a contact with them? If so, please e-mail me at my email address, which is x635@EMTBravo.com
  11. I found this photo on a CD while doing some spring cleaning. Unknown photographer or date, but it's an awesome photo that I figured I would share with all of you. [attachmentid=2490]
  12. Mahopac's old Ladder at the Montrose Parade in 1995 or 1996. [attachmentid=2676]
  13. Empress Ambulance 62. Mostly always had this bus on my Sunday Medic 32 shift. It was a 1998ish Ford/Braun Mini Mod. It was Braun's attempt at getting into the commericial and mini mod market-this was a smaller version of their full size slopeside. It was probaly one of the best ambulances I've worked in. The perfect amount of space, easy to manuver in tight spaces, most equipment within reach when you were working alone in back. These ambulances replaced or added to the Empress "50 Series" Wheeled Coach Mini-Mod fleet that was used by the Yonkers ALS units. Ultimately, I think Empress had three orders/version of these- 60 and 61, 62, 63, 64 (Assigned to 38-A-1), 65, 66, 67, 68 (one was assigned to Mount Vernon A-1) [attachmentid=2675]
  14. Is Zone 4 done with their Response Unit, formerly a Somers Ambulance? It's been sitting at Grasslands DPW Garage for a while now. I also notice the old style NYS passenger vehicle plate? [attachmentid=2660]
  15. Welcome Back Joe, we'll be listening!!
  16. While browsing through LFD171's awesome Westchester Fire Apparatus photo album, I noticed that Yonkers FD got a new 2007 Ford F-Super Duty/Knapheide Mobile Fleet service unit. Looks awesome! http://public.fotki.com/lfd171/westchester...rvice_unit.html Definetly a piece that needed replacing....they were operating with a very well work mid 1980's Chevrolet/Reading. My only question....does the unit have on scene refueling capabilities? And I'm very impressed with LFD171 and how fast he shoots apparatus before many people actually know they exist! Check out his entire photo album at: http://public.fotki.com/lfd171/
  17. Irvington's Ladder after hosting the WCVFA parade in 1995. [attachmentid=2673]
  18. Empress operated this 198? Dodge Ram Charger as their Paramedic Supervisors truck #6. Earlier in it's life, it was one of the Yonkers "flycars" [attachmentid=2667]
  19. I know this Engine has been discussed on this forum a few times before, but I haven't seen a photo of it yet....until I discovered one in my print collection. Not sure if I or someone else took this photo. Besides Ford, what was the make of the body? And where did this unit end up going....I would imagine it living in a garage making only a handful of runs if that a year left it in good condition. I'm also curious to know the tank size and how much supply line it carried. [attachmentid=2595]
  20. First, to put "DPW" in the maltese cross is disrespectful to the fire service. It's a fire service symbol. As far as I know, all Tarrytowns Chiefs cars are striped this way. So, this car represents Tarrytown FD. Wonder why they couldn't take some Easy-Off and vinyl stripe remover and remove the letterring?
  21. Greenburgh DPW operates a variety of different Mack chasisied trucks. Among them are these that they operate several of. I'm under the impression that they are 4x4. Is this an "R" series cab and chasis? [attachmentid=2663] [attachmentid=2664]
  22. Next to the new FDNY Rescue 1, this is a close second. Boston's 2007 Pierce Quantum Rescue 1. Spectacular, I hope one day I can get a photo. Check out the photo on FireNews.org http://www.firenews.org/metrofire/images/BostonR1Pierce.jpg
  23. Is this the new truck that's assigned to the Westchester County DES Special Operations Chief, Pete Pittoco??? [attachmentid=2666]
  24. But it is an improvment.... (They did have a newer Wheeled Coach inbetween this and that) [attachmentid=2661]
  25. During trench rescues, floods, and other incidents, this truck is made immediately available by Consolidated Edison for response and use at the scene. I know it has be used in a rescue capacity several times, including a trench collapse in Mount Vernon a couple of years back. Does any Tech Rescue team have this truck on their response card or noted as available via special request? I know from personal experience dispatching that during major incidents Con Ed will actually call and offer it up. So, does that make this vehicle an emergency vehicle, and should it have emergency warning equipment since it may be needed in Yonkers when it's down in Queens? [attachmentid=2597]
