I've found the POD to be a great comprimise for a tripod, although I've only used it once (extensively though) during my trip to LA in early January. http://emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=15584 As for the flash, I hate it. I don't like the look of the relective stripes lit up. I like to try to shoot as close to natural and other provided light as possible/

If anyone is not a member of FirePics.net, it's definetly worth it to sign up. It's a forum for Emergency Vehicle enthisiasts, and consists mainly of threads with apparartus photos. You need to be a registered member to view the photos. Anyway, check out the damage on the Baltimore City Seagrave ladder, which collided with a Baltimore City Police car, both while responding to seperate incidents. I don't know about injuries, but I hope everyone is OK. http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/index.php?showtopic=5009 The damage is quite significant considering it was a police car that struck it.

I stated the facts as I knew them when I posted. Police Car and Fire Truck collide enroute to call. It's common knowledge, or at least I thought it was, that intersection accidents with other emergency vehicles while responding are a signicant hazard (that's why we come to a stop and look at lights) Baltimore is an old, old city, with many blind intersections, hills, and difficult inner urban areas. Fire, EMS, and PD responses are numerous each day. The following was published in the Baltimore Sun:

Some interesting solutions. Looking foward to seeing the results. I'm very intereseted in the "new" sanding technology. Sand has been used on railroads for years. I'm also dissapointed by the slower speeds, I like speeding along on the train.

Newton sits on the border of Boston. It's home to the Gamewell company, Boston College, and is a very wealthy suburb. They have several E-One engines and ladders. Some have been refurbished. The city, despite having wealth, is very skimpy when it comes to purchasing apparatus, much like many MA cities. Thoughts and prayers are with the injured firefighter.

RIP, Joe. Thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow BMFD members.

From what I understand, Baltimore's aerial fleet is aging, and some of the new Seagrave ladders are having problems. The spare/reserve pool has been used up by other companies. And some of their first line/reserve/spare trucks are purchased used from other departments. Here is a sampling of Baltimore FD's truck fleet: http://rides.webshots.com/album/441275606LCxhwR As for 66's question, I beleive they recently institued a $2 fee, to help support the large amount of bandwith they go through. Worth it IMHO if you're into fire apparatus.

I should mention, I've heard Truck 1 is either disbanded temporaily or running with a spare Engine or car- as there's no available spare ladder. (Photo by Hungrybus) [attachmentid=2751]

I've seen ads in the various trade publications advertising a tool for forcefully pulling electric meters out. I assume this cuts electricity to the house. My question is, does anyone around here practice this, or have this tool? Does this effectively cut electricty, and is it really safe to do? I think it's a job best left to the utility.

I remember seeing this idea somewhere on TV a couple of years ago, where it was developed by college engineering students and won an invention contest. Really cool idea! Available From ThinkGeek: http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/lights/91f2/?cpg=52H

Word has it that Port Chester EMS has taken delivery of two new Ford E-450's/Braun Express to replace their two Ford E-450/AEV's. The designations will be 77-A-19 and 77-A-20. (Port Chester numbers their ambulances in the order which they were recieved-therefore, 20 is the 20th ambulance they have had). They have also taken delivery of a new Ford Explorer or Expedition which I believe is at Specialty Warning Systems in Danbury getting done up as a flycar. Hopefully, x901 will remember he has a camera, dust it off, and get us some pics of these new deliveries! And I'm saying Port Chester just for short, they actually cover Port Chester, Rye, and Rye Brook.

I'd like to take this thread to wish Dave "x901" (my Best Man at my wedding and friend of over 14 years) a Happy 25th birthday! Hopefully in your 25th year, you'll rediscover your camera, lol. We miss your photos on the site! HAPPY BIRTHDAY you cranky old man!

The county is trying to "force them" to provide better service to their citizens. Ridulous! They want to play by their rules, and their rules only, IMO. A lot of people from out of the area go there to ride, which gives them their staffing-these people don't want to do EMS. It's all egos. I don't see why Kentland gets so much attention, and there is so much drama surrounding them- seems they like it. We put out fires, but if you're having a heart attack we don't care. I agree, a lot of their EMS runs are BS, like any urban EMS system, but why not just accept the ambulance until something can be worked out? It's TWO people, and the system down there is like the old west in some places. This is just another example for me and others that EMS should be a third service with complete parity to FF's and Police Officers. The IAEP needs to become much, much stronger. P.S. I rode/ride/observe/photograph with one of the TRUE busiest Engine companies in the nation- Los Angeles County Engine 33, in Palmdale/Lancaster- a career county department. They do over 5,000 calls a year- fire and EMS. Each run they are DISPATCHED to, and legitmately get their numbers- they don't have to buff runs, chase and beat first dues, and fluff numbers to be the "busiest engine". In fact, they don't even brag or complain about it.

I heard from a friend who works 911 EMS (AMR) in that community that the truck "jumped" the chocks that were down...

Frank Becerra attended yesterday's Battalion 13 drill, and put together an audio slideshow. Another great job by Frank! It can be found here: http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...EDIA01/70512004

Cool photo I found on Medix site of EVAC's newest ambulance. [attachmentid=2720] Anyone know who shot it and/or did the post production?

It's not visible, but it exists on each Metro North M-7 car (the "new" trains). Just figured I'd post from my collection as a reminder....these trains run through many Westchester communities. Hopefully, they'll never need to be used (KOW) [attachmentid=2725]

I finally got the scoop-thanks to the my source! As of May 14th, 2007 -The four Smeals formerly 307, 304, 312 & 310 have been assigned to the Spare / Reserve pool - E-316 & E-317 are fully equipped Resreves , E-315 will be the spare kept at the repair shop for short term use and E-300 is a spare engine equipped with 5" hose to be used when one of the other 5" Engines needs a spare or 5" reserve engine is needed during a water emergency -The numbers 297, 298 & 299 for the older rigs before they are disposed of they will be used for training only. The other Spare will be E-305 (Sutphen) and the other reserve will be E-302 (Mack) -More to follow regarding Ladders and Rescue Again, thanks to the person who provided this info!

What my fellow train buff said above, lol.

Yeah, what was the deal with that? Why were they demolishing it? It seems like it had a lot of character, and was in decent condition for restoration. Like other live burn drills, was it some rich people from the city who don't appreciate stuff like that?

Someone may ask why Jack Daniels has a Fire Brigade. They have an Engine and a ladder, of which the ladder pipe was fitted with a Class B foam application nozzle. There have been a couple of distillery fires over the past years that have required the application of Class B foam. I remember runoff from one of them got into the sewer system, and caused additional problems for the incident. As I was taught, treat a liquor store fire using your extreme discretion. Although it's not a distilery, there are some large "liquor warehouse" type stores in the area. ALSO, who has tractor trailers or trucks carrying liquor pass through their community- what and how much are they carrying on their distrubution route? Code 3 also replicated the Jack Daniels apparatus (I couldn't find any other photos): [attachmentid=2738] [attachmentid=2737] (Photos: http://www.code3.net)

I was browsing around my digital photo warehouse today, and found these two photos of NYC Sanitation vehicles. They are quite unique to me, I'm not sure what they do. Anyone know for sure? Maybe a litter control vehicle, hence the cab? http://x635photos.com/displayimage.php?pos=-910 Some sort of water truck, to keep sand down on dirt roads? And is that cab a CCC? http://x635photos.com/displayimage.php?pos=-911 These were taken in Far Rockaway last fall. They were begining a major project to build a Sanitation Depot, Salt Storage, Fleet Maintanence shop, and offices for Sanitation District 14. It was right next to a landfill.

I have some questions about 30-U-1, New Rochelle FD's MCI Unit. -It's a Mccoy Miller. Did it come from Transcare, Empress, or someplace else? Looks like the old Empress 20 & 21 -Who staffs and responds with this unit if L-12 and E-24 are out? -Why does it have the WestchesterGov.com label on it? -What's contained in the unit? I always hated and still do working out in a gym. SO boring for me. I would love to swim, if I had my own pool. I like active activities that keeps me physically and mentally strong, as well as builds my endurance. (although I'm out of doing anything at this moment except very light walking and some core-excercises tought in PT) I have a 50lb weightvest with two 25lb attachments that I like to walk hills and stairs with. Although I do look like I have a bomb on, and get funny looks, it really does help with core strength and endurance. I also like to mountain bike, long tough walks, climb, anything active I can find to do. And, although I hated it at first, I enjoyed running as a group in Probie School, and still like running somewhere other then a treadmill. Yet, no matter what I do- I've tried all kinds of workouts and supplements, I can't get any definition or get "built". My doctor said once that I would have to eat large every hour of every day to gain muscle...that includes nightitme hours as well. Expensive and impossible. (KOW)
