I agree, I think the phones are for the most part, useless. When someone decides to drive up onto that span, most likely their decision has already been made, and it takes only seconds to carry out. Although it has drawbacks, and has been debated on this forum before, I think the only true way to stop jumpers is barrier fences, that are lightweight, easy to remove for bridge maintainence, and it has been done on multiple other bridges, such as the Golden Gate Bridge.

This sounds like one really put together drill!

Thanks for the link...I love that Dobbs Ferry ambulance....hopefully I can get some photos of my own soon of Dobbs, Harrison, and Pleasantville. Also should mention a lot of the rivertowns of Greenburgh are going with or have Lifelines....their quality sells itself. Ardsley, Hastings, Dobbs, all have them. Tarrytown I believe operates 2 Brauns, and Irvington has 2 1996/7 PL Customs. If anyone has any updates to the above pleae post....I hear Hastings is getting a new Lifeline ambulance, and is Irvington looking at something new since their ambulances are 10 years old now?

Awesome! Thanks for the photo! It's really amazing that with how old these locomotives are, they still see frequent passenger and work service on MNRR.

Apparently, at FDIC, Seagrave introduced it's newest chasis, the "FWD Intruder", aimed at the entry level AKA low price market. [attachmentid=2790] I wonder why they are branding this as FWD?
-
FWD is the parent corporation of Seagrave. Maybe they are trying to establish it as a seperate brand and resurecting the FWD chasis (of which my TL is built on), the brand of which died in 1995.

And here's the back of E-14, one of their newer E-One engines: [attachmentid=2786]

CPage, thanks for the info.....it's nice to see Newark upgrading their fleet....I am hearing some good things about Newark FD for the first time in years. Here's Newark's Engine 28 with their current paint scheme: [attachmentid=2785]

Sorry Dan. I've never flown jetBlue out of Westchester (I was booked and supposed to be on the inuagral flight...grrr), but have flown jetBlue extensively and they are an awesome airline. My fiance has flown from Westchester and it is MUCH easier and more convinent then LGA,EWR, or JFK. Unless there are weather issues, there's usually not a problem with delays. The only issue is parking. Due to Airtran and jetBlue, HPN doesn't have the capacity. Several options are being looked at, but for now I'd try to get a ride there. For Dutchess residents, Westchester and Stewart rock- no longer do you have to schlep to the city to go to Florida!

It was Newark that you remember seeing the prison fire on. It was July of 2000, a very hot summer day. The prison was the old Essex County Jail Complex, completly abadoned since 1989. It was built in the 1830's, with multiple additions and renovations over time. The complex occupies an acre of land. Although there is much deterioration, it is still a beautiful complex with some hope. I must note that a portion was demolished after (and during-they brought in heavy equipment to help with access) the fire. It's on NJ's Preservartion Societies Top Ten Endangered List. I too wish they would resurect "The Bravest" It's lousy position on syndicated overnight TV gave the show no hope- if only a network had picked it up. . The black stripe reflects a bright silver at night. LOL! So true! Add in UMDNJ's Rescue and NPD's ESU and it will look like 5, easily.

Cool concept. Grand Central is like a city in itself.

Thoughts and prayers are with Capt. Keane, his family, friends, and coworkers. Hopefully, his tragic and untimely death will not be in vein, and that the WFD and the fire service in general will come away from this with a lesson, and the hope that this never repeats itself again.

Did anyone go to Harrisburg this year, and have any information (or photos) they want to share? I really wanted to go, this year seemed like it was going to be a great one, especially with the new Pierce and E-One chasis that I've been wanting to check out. Also heard Yonkers Rescue was there. IMHO, this is the best show for apparatus in the country. Hopefully next year, and I can go on Thursday when they are washing and holding the apparatus outside while awaiting direction inside. By the way, what did those who went think of the new Pierce Velocity and Impel, and E-One Quest (and I'm reffering to interior layout,, etc)

It is called line art. The majority of the people who do line art use Microsoft Paint, which comes standard with windows. There's a forum over on FirePics.net just for line art. Anyways, check out RIEMT's Line Art. Some awesome work, and a lot of local apparatus: http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a55/RIemt/Drawings/

I've hit upon yet another SmugMig site with GREAT apparatus photos, primarily in the Chicago and other areas. http://dgfd147.smugmug.com/ They have some really unique apparatus out there! Here are some of my favorites from the site: Seagrave Plant Photos: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/1928750 Chicago 2007 Apparatus Update: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/1999935 Pierce Manufacturing Plant: 2005: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/2222615 2007: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/2560594 Mt. Horeb Rescue Engine. Insane. http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/2046413/1/106203225/Large Take some time to browse through the gallery....especially if you are designing new apparatus! Some very cool ideas from the apparatus in the photo galleries

I believe you are allowed to use a calculator (a PLAIN calculator, no PDA calculator, graphing calculator, or calculator with any type of memory), but I am not 100% postive, so check you exam announcement. From the county recruiting brochue, here is the subject of the examination. If you're not good at one of these areas, I highly suggest you brush up, get some tutoring or help if you really want the job....you have two weeks, remember, the higher your score on this test, the better your chances of getting this dream job. PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY FIREFIGHTER TRAINING YOU HAVE MAY NOT BE OF ANY HELP ON THIS EXAM! DO NOT RELY ON THAT! So, Subject Of Examination: -Understanding and interpeting written materials -Solving problems with numbers -Reasoning clearly and selecting the proper courses of action in firefighting situations -Mechanical reasoning, mechanical principles and devices, hand tools, reading dials and guages -Understanding and interpeting graphs, charts, tables, and diagrams and following written instructions. After you walk out that door from taking the test, start a fitness program that includes both strength and endurance. I'm not sure, but it was rumored that CPAT will replace the current county agility exam. It could be a couple of years away, but bringing your fitness up now will definelty help when it is time to start preparing for the CPAT.

It's interesting to note, Matchbox replicated this car.

One of our members, JCESU, was in one of the Jersey City episodes that aired in Febuary of 2001. It was the one where the security guard was locked by perps inside a shipping container trailer. He's the really built guy whos arms are bigger than my torso and working with the female officer. He was patrol then but ESU now. It reruns all the time on Court TV, G4, or one of the other networks that air COPS reruns. In NJ, they've shot mostly with Jersey City and Passaic County Sherrifs. I'd love to see them shoot with Newark. BTW, I'm reading this awesome, hard to find book called "The Jump Out Boys", all about being a COPS cameraman. Very interesting how they do things.

In the June 2007 edition of Wired Magazine, they had a tidbit on a new Japanese hybrid mass transit vehicle. It's being developed in Japan. It's called a "dual mode" vehicle. It rides on rubber tires, until it reaches a rail line, where steel rail wheels drop from the undercarriage in under 15 seconds, and boom, it goes from being a bus to being a train. It's currently being tested by the Japense Regional Railroad. Among the touted features is it uses less fuel and requres less maintanence then a regular train, and could be used in areas where train service isn''t feasible but a connection is needed. Wonder if the technology will ever make it over here? I know this could really be useeful in putting LA's difficult mass transit system together more.

Have to add that truck to my "to get" photo list. Wonder where it responds from/who staffs it? Nice Find, Kris!
-
Pierce also has used the concept with their "Rail Rescue" vehicle http://www.piercemfg.com/apparatus/RailRescue.cfm But, I've never heard of the concept used for mass transit before.
-
Here is some more information on these awesome Pierce's! http://www.pafirefighter.net/nd/19.htm I hope this is a contender for a Code 3 replica!
-
Hopefully, this new airline...and their introductory prices, will help to bring costs of some flights down...especially transcontinental to L.A.!

White Plains DPW has always been quite interesting. There is no real consitency in their fleet and the types of vehicles they operate. This is the most recent addition to their fleet, just delivered last week. Truck 510, 2007 Freightliner one of three delivered. Sadly, with this one they went even more el cheapo. Instead of the White and Yellow paint jobs on the trucks delivered in '06 and before, this one is plain white with a vinyl stripe. [attachmentid=2610]
