I'm seeing this being picked apart on other sites. First, let me give you some context. Check out the video: http://www.fox5dc.com/news/102497228-story Next, Kentland Fire, in something the "Salty" people seem to have dubbed "beaching" that they displayed on their Facebook page. Now, maybe some more experience Aerialscope operator can enlighten me. First off, is taking your truck across, what I can only assume is soft soil, and then set it up very close to the building, safe? I get they had to have been rescuing occupants from the apartment across the hall. But my question to y'all......and I'm on the fence here.......can you maintain stability in the jacks and outriggers in this type of surface? I mean, it looks OK, like they got the truck where it needed to be. I can't decide, do I say good job on this one? I want my fellow members to make up my mind please. Riverwalk development. I know the border runs close to there, so not sure which village exactly.

The winner of this auction is a well-known restaurateur and seafood wholesaler who has a history of working on fishing boats. He has successful ventures in NYC and Westchester. The boat will be docked in Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow. If everything goes right, it will become a fire boat/firefighting themed restaurant. I was worried about who the winner would be and the fate of the boat, and this is an surprise awesome outcome with a Westchester connection! (CREDIT: EMTBravo sources)

I found this paragraph in an article on LoHud/Journal News Does anyone know if this new system will be digital or what it will include? Is Police, Fire, and EMS (Empress) going to the same system?

Some very interesting reading and issues raised.

I figured today would be a good day to start a thread with photos of Highway Department Plow Trucks. So please, if you have any, post 'em up and share them with us! First up for me is Greenburgh Highway Department's Truck 29, a 2010 Mack Granite 10x10, with a Henderson Muni Body Asphalt Edition Integrated Spreader/Dump Body and Henderson Plow, photographed this past Thursday getting ready for this weekend's storm.

Here are some links to awesome photos from local fire photographers: FULL GALLERY with lots of great photos: https://chi-townfirephotos.smugmug.com/Chicago-Working-fires/2016-Chicago-Fires/411-Alarm-4540-w-Haddon/ And some more: http://chicagoareafire.com/blog/2016/03/chicago-4-11-alarm-1-special-and-haz-mat-level-i-3-8-16/

I wonder about that too. Chicago has some very interesting apparatus, they must have a reason...it would be interesting to know. But the new E-One's are more nimble then I thought. Along with the links I posted in the next post, here's one that shows one of the new TL's set up on a narrow street, gotta love those E-One jacks! Click here for that photo Any Chicago people on here?

Do all the trucks respond from the hospital, or are there stations or posts?

This was the first day in service for Chicago's New Tower Ladder 14, a 2016 E-One Cyclone II 100' which I really, really like. It's one of three delivered, and was purchased using the HGAC Buying Cooperative, of which Yonkers and White Plains have both recently purchased off of. Here's of photo of it posed with the old TL-14 during the swap over yesterday: http://chicagoareafire.com/blog/2016/03/new-tower-ladders-for-chicago-more-11/ And of it in action today: http://www.trbimg.com/img-56df1f65/turbine/chi-fire08-ct0037063900-20160308/1250/1250x703

Just out of curiosity, are the local VAC's OK with this? I think it's a great arrangement, and should be done here in Westchester, but I can see some anti-progress people around here not liking this or viewing it as competition, along with some billing issues. (Although I think WEMS may have a 40-A-1 that can do this?) Also, is it staffed double medic, or medic/EMT?

A little blast from the past here, 14 years ago. Former Forum Admin Truck 4 produced this awesome feature and there are no words I can say of how appreciative of him for this. 2004 was a busy and tragic year in Westchester. Links in the Incident Alert dicussion thread do not work but I will update those soon. Click on the links to view the Incident Alert. I'm proud that we have a searchable database of 14 years worth of topics that you can research. If you want to see more EMTBravo.com Blasts From The Past from our archives, please hit "Like" on this post. Incidents were selected by a panel of EMTBravo.com moderators and select members by vote and also ranked based on, with no factor holding any more weight than another, size and scope of incident, response to incident, loss of life, effect on response, training and operating policy. EMTBravo Network Incident Alert Moderator Truck4 Created And Developed The Idea For This List, As Well As Compiled, Ranked, And Wrote All The Information. Special Thanks To Truck4 For His Work On This Project, And To All Who Participated And Supported This Project.

I have a ton in the EMTBravo archive. I'm going to make these "Blasts From The Past" a regular feature I think. I have a lot of not only incidents from the past decade, but incidents going back several decades from the "Protection From The Past" archive. Maybe I will try and post a feature every Saturday.

I completely rebuilt the front page of http://www.emtbravo.com/ . Although it looks exactly the same, I cleaned up a lot of the old unused code, upgraded existing code and wrote some new code on the backend. This should also make it render better on mobile devices. I will also be adding more features in the near future. Can a few of you check it to make sure it's rendering/showing properly? I want to make sure.

Thanks, guys! Your feedback and kind words are much appreciated.

It's great that Paramedics are being trained to be on a SWAT team or Active Shooter response, as it brings medical care to those who need it immediately in a very dangerous situation. My only issue is non-Civil Service Paramedics who work for private companies. If they get shot and injured, or god forbid, killed, they do not get the same benefits as a firefighter or police officer who is injured or killed in the line of duty. If they have a family, that family is not provided for like they would if he/she was in civil service. If private service Paramedics are going to be part of tactical teams, is there any way to give them some sort of LODI or LODD benefit that is parity with FF's and LEO's? Am I wrong?

Honestly, I'm kind of surprised and disappointed. I was hoping New Rochelle would take the lead in establishing a fire based EMS service, as they were one of the first departments to do EMS first response in the area. An interesting read on what an EMS contract requires, as New Rochelle is very specific, and here are those specifics http://www.newrochelleny.com/DocumentCenter/View/4857 The most interesting to me:

And this is one of the many reasons LA City FD is my favorite fire department.

Today, I had to move a member to the "Answered Final Alarm" group. I found out a friend, member of this forum, and EMTBravo advertiser/sponsor Ed Simione, AKA "Officer Ed", passed away after a long and difficult battle with cancer. Although I've never met Ed in person, we've maintained a friendship online and corresponded. We have had some common ground. Ed was a retired Police Officer in Arizona, and also a volunteer firefighter. He worked as an officer in Narcotics Interdiction, and as a Narcotics Detective in the Phoenix area. In his retirement after an on the job injury, he operated an emergency lighting business, Dash Flash, which his mission was to provide emergency lighting to those who have to buy their own equipment at an affordable price . He has been an advertiser/sponsor of this site for several years, and has given EMTBravo members significant discounts on his products. He was an advertiser on this site. Since there are so many fly by night LED light companies, He sent me some to demo so I could vet him. His products were solid. I gave the demos to friends who could use them, and they are holding up nicely in busy enviroments. I've spoken with his daughter, and her and his wife intend to keep the business going. He was also an active member on this forum, logging in almost every day. RIP, Ed. I'll continue my mission to help raise cancer awareness. Feel bad I didn't write you sooner. Thank you for all you've done for this forum. Condolences to Cheryl, his wife. Thoughts and prayers. This was his last post, responding to a post I made about this site:

Although this article is written for military personnel, it is quite applicable to the Fire and EMS service. It's an excellent article and read if I do say so myself. I think #6 is one of the most problematic to our local fire and EMS services, but the others hit the nail on the head as well. http://taskandpurpose.com/8-symptoms-of-a-toxic-command-climate/
