  1. "Not Something You See Everyday" I like the comment about it being on YouTube by midnight.
  2. No email yesterday, will be sending a few times each week instead of the daily previously announced.
  3. I wonder if the weight of the apparatus had any effect on the mall's floor? I see cars and SUV's inside Malls all the time on display....but an Engine? That's a reach- and from the video- a tight fit. Wonder why they chose inside instead of outside the mall? I wonder what the managment was thinking?
  4. Here's 73, as it looked this morning. Looks like they added some finishing touches if you compare it to the photo above....
  5. I agree with Chris192. I know people who have come from "the rank and file" to a leadership position, and are completly incompetent, even after decades in office. Of course, there's always Westchester County politics involved, but hopefully the new commisioner coming from a different background will be an assett. I just wished I had applied.

  8. All the information you need on LA Brush fires, click below: http://lafdtraining.org/ists/brush.htm
  9. Being very familiar with Southern California fire operations, it's A LOT different out there than here in NY, both structurally, interface, and wildland. As mentioned above, wildland firefighting is completly different than structural firefighting. Not to mention, very dangerous- you have to be trained to read the conditions carefully or you can easily be burned alive in a second. I can see East Coast firefighters going out to help with disaster relief, putting out hot spots after the fire has passed, help with support operations, etc. But, the departments out there and State agencies have a rigorous, very orginanized command system. I would highly discourage anybody going out there to "freelance".......wait until there is an official request (if there is one), and then go through the proper channels. And even with how nasty these fires look, the State Of California and the fire agencies are very well equipped to handle this situation. Don't forget...you're really not fighting the fire...you're trying to contain it and that is what the FF's are doing. And, as per a contact, all LA City and County stations are completly covered.....albeit, there's a lot of overtime . Don't forget, they have the "Task Force" and "Strike Team" concepts that allow them to respond to major incidents without stripping coverage.
  10. The Hughsonville rescue and other Rescue trucks in Dutchess Co. got me thinking. Does the City Of Poughkeepsie have a heavy rescue truck/company? I don't think so, right? Did they ever have one? Do you think they will have one in the future, or is it planned? What currently goes on a City Of Poughkeepsie heavy rescue assignment?
  11. Interesting news. Thanks for the info, JA3KFD I haven't heard anything about it, so it was also somehwat suprising. The ED was overcrowded the day it opened. It was poorly planned, and this "expansion" just highlights another WMC mistake. I believe the "new" ER was actually smaller then the old ER. I hope this ED expansion addresses the issues of EMS, such as a place to write reports, wash hands, and clean and restock equipment. Hopefully also phones to contact dispatch, a water cooler, coffeemaker, and wireless internet connection and printer for electronic PCRs. There was a room for that in the new ER, but it was taken over as an office the day the ED opened. Also, I hope the flow of the ED, including the intake flow, is much improved. I hope there are more patient rooms, so no one has to be out in the hallway, and large nurses stations with seperate spaces for the doctors. Oh yes, and a built-in, permenant decon facilty that doesn't have to be "set up" and can handle a large amount of patients. Just some thoughts I hope fall on the right ears, so that this ED doesn't squander even more donated money. To think, if they planned the "new" ED better, maybe the money they are spending on the "expansion" could have been used to "freshen up" the patient rooms and floors of the main hospital.
  12. C'mon, there's got to be more of you from Bergen County! Speak up! It could benefit you.....
  13. I think he means that there are bad seeds everywhere. As for what it accomplishes, I don't know- I think it's just used for comparison purposes. Let's stick to discussing the situation as published, and not attacking one another for their views/opinions/thoughts/facts.
  14. They are attempting to recruit everyone they can, so that they can gather the best, most diverse set of canidates ever. There also will be more Trooper positions added over the next few years, coupled with several hundred retirments.
  15. Thanks for all the info!! Does anyone have a hook to get me in to get photos? I am looking to photo-feature some more Dutchess County apparatus soon, so if you do please email me at x635@EMTBravo.com. Thanks!
  16. Who is manufacturing the body, and where will this truck be stationed?

  21. Kris and I were wondering while watching National Geographic Explorer's special on the MS-13 gang. Seemingly, there are more gangs and car chases in Los Angeles then in NY. Does anyone have a theory why this is? Is it just because it's still the "wild west"?
  22. I'm going Thursday night with Kris and friends of ours. Looking foward to it, especially after reading all these positive reviews!
  23. If you wanted the media (or your mayor) to know ONE thing about the emergency services business, what would it be??
  24. This morning, with special thanks to Hughsonville Chief Glenn M. Kramer (and the members of this forum for putting me in touch with him), I had the oppurtunity to photograph their very well equipped new Rescue 45-55. Hughsonville Fire District is located in the Town Of Wappingers Falls, in Dutchess County NY. Right off Route 9, on Old Wappingers Road. They cover a district of about 9 square miles, including dense residential and commercial districts, including the busy Route 9 commercial corridor. Their new Rescue 45-55 is a 2007 Spartan Gladiator Evolution/Rescue 1 (PL Custom). It replaces a 1992 Pierce Dash Rescue. Anyone with questions about this Rescue can feel free to contact the Chief of HFD at HFD45@aol.com or post on this thread. Some of the more noteable features on the apparatus include an exhaust diverter, which can change which side of the apparatus the exhaust comes out from. This rescue is also extremly well equipped, including one of the largest inventories of cribbing that I have seen on a Rescue truck. For more detailed photos and information: http://www.emtbravo.com
