The only thing I know is that I can confirm they go there a lot! I sure hope they get some sort of funding from the school, I doubt they get taxes, to compensate them for covering such a large life hazard. Harrison EMS as well. I'm sure one of our Purchase friends can fill us in.

Doug-what was the outcome of your decision? If you made the switch, how do you like it?

Word is that Hawthorne was to take delivery of a utility vehicle similar to Vahalla's this week. It is a 2007 Freightliner/American LaFrance. Also, I heard that Hawthorne awarded the bid for a new RM straight stick quint to American LaFrance. Anyone have the details on that?

I heard Eastchester EMS will be getting a new ambulance in the next few weeks. Does anyone know what it will be?

Happy Birthday Chief! I'll always remember the doors you opened for me and the trust you placed in me, it meant a lot. The oppurtunities you gave me ultimately set me on the right course to become who I am today, and also acheive my dream of becoming a career firefighter. I'll always remember you for that. I also appreciate all your support through the years, it means a lot. Best wishes for a great birthday and many more! Seth

First, best wishes to Sgt. Hagan for a speedy recovery, and I'm glad it wasn't more serious. Second, on my way to and from Hartford yesterday, I had to dodge numerous trucks and cars with ice flying off of them. From the ice that was on my car, it was tough to get it off, but I did it. I mean huge chunks of ice that could easily have killed someone. What bothers me the most is people who are driving sedans, and are younger, and can't be bother to do anything but clear a little hole in the windshield. Part of driving is maintaining your vehicle. The worst part is, if the ice coming off a vehicle does strilke someone, you probaly won't be able to catch who it was. I don't know of a safe and practical solution for the tractor trailers and box trucks, other then installing some sort of mechanic deicing system at truck stops. Anyways, rant over. I was going to write about this topic anyways, but am glad to see cops craking down. I just hope there's more of a PR campaign in the future as well as some sort of system or standard devised for tractor trailers and box trucks.

With it being extremly cold outside, how do you cope during firefighting activities? One thing that I do, that was taught to me by a brother on my group at work, Carl D'ariano, was to pack a "winter bag". Containing snacks, dry gloves, dry socks, hand warming packs, dry hood, chap stick, dry towel, and some other assorted items. In weather like this, I also wear thermal bottoms, a knit cap. In my department, we also put a salt/sand mixture on the rigs for traction. I would like to see Westchester County aqquire a full size Bee-Line bus for rehab purposes, warming in the winter, and cooling in the summer. I feel that a full-size, 40 foot bus would be the perfect place for firefighters to warm up and rehab. Also, does any department add extra manpower due to the ice and cold shortening the firefighters abilties?

So, am I correct that the first trailer park in Mount Vernon history has been established at FDMV HQ's??? I got this photo today, and was dissapointed because I though the trailers would be nicer and laid out better....they can't spend a little extra for a double or triple wide instead of having three trailers? I assume one for E-6, one for T-2, and one for the Deputy?

Interesting article off "The Secret List"

I'm aware of Bee-Line being available to Westchester County, however I remember being a dispatcher at 60 Control and a bus being requested at 3AM. I was told when I called that there were no drivers available for the buses. This is back in 1999, so things might have changed. I remember sending Bee-Line succesfully to other incidents though. However, I still feel a dedicated rehab bus would be beneficial. You could configure it to the specific need, including stocking the bus with appropriate equipment and a stronger heating and cooling system and possibly bathroom facilities. Many other cities do this, and I feel it would be beneficial in multiple situations. Aqquiring a former Bee-Line bus wouldn't cost the county much, and a lot of the conversion could be done using in-house talent. The County has all sorts of special-needs apparatus, and I feel this one would see the most use.

Photo by me, x635 Maybe it's just me, but I noticed this vehicle for the first time today. Is it new, or has it been around? Did it have a former life as another city vehicle? I would take it regardless that the City Of White Plains PD/FD shops built it? Oh yes, is it a command post unit?

Wow. Interesting story. Could have happened anywhere, I'll try to find out more of the specifics and let you know. Right now, I know it's a lot more complicated then the LA Times described, the vehicle was (possibly large) and significantly damaged and the elderly female was, let's say injured and involved a lot more then described. I do not know if there was extrication involved. However, this is a wake up call to check EVERYWHERE in a vehicle after an MVA. I know a lot, including myself, have gotten complacent when we're busy and have limited resources at an MVA scene, and this could have happened anywhere.

dct2, how about bringing this model to the general public!!! Doesn't Fairview have a model of this truck on display at headquarters?

I mean the real fire truck color, whatever you want to call it! Lime yellow! I love Live Oak Fire Co. and all, but I really hope it goes to Elmsford Fire Co.!!

Congrats to ALL, several of the graduates are members here on this forum. Best wishes for a happy, healthy, and safe career! If someone was to send me the class photo, it may turn up posted on EMTBravo.com......

Wow, that is AWESOME! Great find, Bill! I'm definetly going to check it out!

Thanks for the info. Two more questions though, where will it be housed, and most importantly, will it be red or green? Sounds like an excellent addition to the EFD fleet!

Since the FD doing EMS thing was thrown out for discussion, I'd LOVE to see City Of Poughkeepsie FD sieze this oppurtunity, set an example and start a transporting EMS system. Even if they have to hire the former Alamo employees as to staff the ambulances as civil-service status EMT's and Paramedics. HOWEVER, FIRST I'd rather see the Firefighters from the City of Poughkeepsie get paid a decent liveable wage, then the same exact thing for the EMT's and Paramedics (and the dispatchers too!) who are also saving lives in the City Of Poughkeepsie..

I've had my Blackberry Curve 8310 from AT&T for a couple of weeks now, and I'm quite satisfied with it and the service. Easy to setup and use right from the box.
