  1. They already have a Sutphen MM platform! I had hoped they would go with a nice, simple rear mount aerial straightstick like North White Plains or Yorktown. What are the advantages of this type of appartus? The area departments that I know that use the 70" MM Sutphen ladder are Scarsdale, Chappaqua, and Stamford. I haven't always heard good things, namely the reach. Of course, it is shorter, but the midmount makes positioning dificult for operations as a laddder (f they want to nose in a driveway, etc)
  2. Prototype's currently being assembled at Kawasaki Rail Car in Kobe, Japan. The order of 380 cars will be assembled at Kawasaki's Lincoln, NE plant. These new cars will replace the very tired and worn M2/M4/M6's currently serving on the New Haven Line. They will look similar to the M7's currently on the Hudson and Harlem lines, but will be red and have the catenary power system on top. Special thanks to capecodlocoguy from Railroad.net for the link..... http://good-times.webshots.com/album/562262291uVTfYZ

  4. And here's another photo of the completed prototype. LOOKS AWESOME! http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?photo=20...y=Metro%20North
  5. Does anyone have any tips for easy back stretches? Upper AND lower.
  6. WOW! Great timing on that capture!!! And that find! Here are some photos that were posted on EMTBravo.com by photographers who used to be all over Yonkers incidents, and now, not so much, lol. LOL on what Truck4 has said.....Truck4 is probaly the only one who has consistently photographed Yonkers jobs over the past 10 years...everyone else seems to fade in and out. I think he gave up photography!) And I believe they had another fire that day as well, in which New Rochelle TL-11 attended: http://www.emtbravo.com/News/April04/041704A.html
  7. Many of us have seen photos of fire apparatus encrusted in ice after a fire, or have heard stories about ladders not being able to retract due to ice, etc. If you take a look at the photo below, they are de-icing an aircraft. I was wondering if there was a smaller version of the device that could be used at a fire scene, or if you could "special request" these units from the local airporrt? Also, does anyone know what the chemical is and it's enviromental hazards that would prohibit it from being used "on the street".
  8. BUT, with the advent of clear LED's, does that make for a loophole in the law, or do LED's fall under clear? I would say it's legal to put whatever you want onto your vehicle, it's using it that's the issue. Again, AWESOME car. Think of the car shows with the souped-up hot rods people collect or have to toy around with. Only for buffs, lol.
  9. I think the car is AWESOME, and if I was a millionare and had money to burn, I would definetly buy one. I can see it on MTV "Cribs" now, lol I don't know who owns the car or what it's for....but I do know that it does have some other goodies that I've been sworn to secrecy about. Don't forget, the guys who outfitted this car help pay the bills around here.....SPECIALTY WARNING SYSTEMS.
  10. Looks like a really cool DVD to check out and add to the collection! http://www.amazon.com/Cops-20th-Anniversary/dp/B000YDMPCE From an Amazon.com reviewer:
  11. Huh. New Rochelle is an A.L.F department...wonder if they will bid on the contract while they are "reorganizing"? Otherwise, it would be nice to see a Pierce or Seagrave on the streets of New Ro!
  12. Exactly. Since the question has been answered, and I don't want to see this subject keep popping up, I'm closing this thread.
  13. I meant to make this post a week ago, but I want to wish Remember585 AKA John a Happy 30th birthday! Man, he's getting old! Also, congrats on becoming Chief! You've brought your department a long way-just like your father did-and your leadership will continue to foster a great department. BTW, want to make a White Castle run? Fo-sheezy! (Photo relates to a long standing source of entertainment while we were working together at 60 Control)
  14. "American Chopper", AKA Orange County Choppers, has built a Police Bike and a Firefighter Bike. To my knowledge, they've never built an EMS bike. I'd like to see them take on that challenge....I'm sure a ride along with Mobile Life in Newburgh and other EMS agencies could provide some inspiration. It would also bring some attention to the EMS proffesion. I lost interest in American Chopper a while ago....it seeemed to be the same old thing after a while. But, after watching the current and newest season in HD, I am into the show again. They really do build cool bikes. And the HD makes it so much better....I can't wait until I can get a job again and start saving up for one again. Once you see HD, you're spoiled for regular TV, just what Sirius Sattelite radio did for FM....I can't even tolerate FM anymore. Anyway, does anyone have any connections or pull to get the EMS Bike suggested? I wonder if it could go to OCC direct, or would it have to go through the Discovery Channel? I have heard that all the current bikes they build for the TV show are dictated by the Discovery Channel, based on what would make for a good storyline.
  15. The new Sterling Bullets have begun arriving at Sterling dealers nationwide. They are a true, heavy duty occupational chasis. Although some claim it's just a beefed up version of it's cousin, the Dodge Ram, after getting under the hood and driving one, I must say differently. These are definetly designed to work, work hard, and take a beating while doing it. I see this being a much better alternative for those Fire & EMS agencies who use the F-series or Silverado chasis. Give it a look when spec'ing your next ambulance, brush truck, etc....you won't be dissapointed!
  16. First, I want to thank all my friends on this forum for their support and encouragment via PM and email. It means a lot. To date, I have recieved over 120 messages from indivduals expressing their support and offering advice and help. It makes me feel a lot better about my situation and a lot more positve about my future. Although I have not had a chance to reply to anyone yet, I have read every one. And I promise to reply to each one this week. I've just been pre-occupied with some things, and have a very bad habit of procrastinating my replies to personal messages, emails, and voicemails. It's nothing personal at all, so please don't take it personal and please don't let this deter you from contacting me. Thank you, and I appreciate everyone's patience and support a ton! -Seth G.
  17. Bump for tommorow. Let's keep this topic active today by posting in it so that everyone possible can attend and help Jody out. He is an asset to the fire service in Westchester and Mount Vernon, and has been done an injustice. Let's all help him in his fight and to start teaching the City Of Mount Vernon that they can't get away with what they've been getting away with anymore. And also, not really being familiar with the area, I though this was the same as the NY Firehouse Grill. IT IS NOT. It is actually on Washington St as mentioned above, and a really nice place. So, MAKE SURE you are going to the New Yorker AT 824 WASHINGTON ST IN PEEKSKILL, and not the NY Firehouse Grill on Welcher Ave.. I am sorry that I will be unable to attend, and also sorry that I cannot afford to make a donation or attend. But, if I can help in any other way, please let me know- email is x635@emtbravo.com
  18. Is the new construction in the parking lot of the Medical Office Building opposite I-87 NB Exit 9 the new Tarrytown Route 119 firehouse? It looks like it's going to be a single bay firehouse. If it is, then the awarding of bids and construction certainly proceeded quickly. And what is going to be house there?
  19. Sometimes, I think YouTube is a bad thing. I bet this kid was being a punk to officers. But the YouTube clip doesn't show that. I'm down in Baltimore at a training class, and it's big news. They interviewed the mother, and she said that her son couldn't hear what the officer was saying because he had his iPod playing! And the kid said he knew he wasn't supposed to be skating (in the Inner Harbor Promenade), and he would have left if asked. And he says that calling the Officer "Dude" was OK because that's the lingo all his friends use. With the media constantly dragging Police Officers through the mud, PARENTS need to teach their children to have some respect for authority figures! That kid, thirty years ago, the treatment would have been A+ by the officer, followed up by his father. What a punk. Although, I do think the officers handling of this incident was a bit intense. And it's incidents like this that make Cops look bad, especially now that it's all over YouTube. QUOTE OF THE VIDEO: "Obviously, your parents don't put you foot in your butt often enough!!" Your thoughts?? WATCH THE VIDEO:
  20. I'm just curious if anyone feels that there should be term limits for Fire Commisioners??
  21. Here's another shot I got of it in August: http://x635photos.com/displayimage.php?pos=-1023 Abandoned in 1977, this 4 year college is an arcehticural gem, that has fallen victim to the years of neglect. This beautiful building has suffered so much since being abandoned and not maintained, I don't think it can be restored although I hope it can be-but as mentioned above, learned it will be torn down. I'm shocked that no one else wanted this building after Bennet School closed, it would have made a beautful hotel. I guess the late '70's weren't a particularly prosperous time for Dutchess County.
  22. You know, who are we to judge our patients? Bariatric medicine is become one of the newest EMS buzzwords, due to a growing obesity epedemic in the US. Do we make fun of someone we had to cut out of a car because they "can't drive"? Or do we go back to the firehouse and boast about the "pin job" we had. Now, we get called to take a sick patient, who happens to weigh 500lbs. (for some people, weight is not an easy thing-some people have NO metabolism, education, proper nutrition or access to, etc). We get him to the ambulance, and whine about it. THEN, the patient is dropped, and caused injury. If FDNY is at fault, then bariatric medicine is a situation they need to address. Maybe we should all take a lesson from University Hospital EMS-Newark's Rescue- they specialize in removing bariatric patients. They have all kinds of tools and tricks to move obese patients. There are some good ideas here, let's learn from one another and cut the high and might judging our patients crud.
  23. I thought that the Ford F-350 Type I was in dire need of being replaced (or has it been replaced already?). If not, how is a BLS flycar a priority over a BLS ambulance?
  24. Take this example. Cops in a local Village PD have told 11-12 year old middle schoolers to go home after finding them "Hanging out" in the Village at two or three O'clock in the mornning. This seems to be a local thing. Next day, Parents call the mayor (small village) and say that the cops are harrasing their kids. So, now the cops leave these kids alone, and you routinely see middle schoolers wandering the streets of a desolate village, yet one that has a major thougroughfare running through it. Parents today, for the majority, don't parent. They'd rather be friends with their kids then parents. I mean, what parent lets their MIDDLE SCHOOLER hang out in a dark, desolated village at 3AM!!! Where are they? And the Cops can't shoo them away because of fear of "harrasment complaints". Meanwhile, these kids know they can mouth off to officers, and sometimes do. Also, this village has rampant alchohol and drug abuse problems, starting in middle school. What I'm trying to get at here is that although this officer was a bit rough, these kids nowadays are mouthing off to authorities more then ever before. Some have complete disrespect for the law. How do we solve conflicts like the above? Who teaches them to have respect for the law? A "Youth Officer". Or a "Zero Tolerance, No Bull" policy. I also feel some Cops are to blame....especially younger ones. Instead of treating kids with mutual respect, many take the "AUTHORITY" role and play it too far. Some teenagers I know hate cops because of this....if they had been treated a little better, or talked to reasonably and without attitude, they might have more respect for the law.
