Some interesting new from NY's 3rd largest city that brought you the Quint/Midi concept. Other then a 1981 Sutphen tower, Rochester NY hasn't ordered a mid mount aerial since the 50's. They currently use a fleet comprised entirely of E-One Rearmounts. Still miss the Quint/Midi days though lol. Although not a huge Rosenbauer fan currently, they have a lot of interesting concepts and many new ones that will be presented at FDIC this year. They've recently started building new 55' Snorkels for Chicago, and filled large orders for Baltimore County, MD and Miami-Dade, FL. Rochester has been using them for several years now, and the dealer provides pretty strong sales and service support, so that must say something.

I've heard, as of April 111th, that NYS EMT's are now allowed to do 12 Leads, the purpose of which is to transmit to the hospital for rapid STEMI identification. This is no different then an ER Tech doing 12 leads and giving it to a doctor, in a very basic sense though. However, this is assuming BLS providers do no have to acquire an ALS level monitor, and do not sit on scene to try and interpret the 12 lead. This would also require a hospitals base station cooperation, which if it was like the TV show "Emergency", would be awesome, but let's face it, most of them don't listen to our reports or care, and there are a lot of techs that's aren't proficient in giving reports. Factor that in with a doctor being available, and it can get tricky. I see this working for rural systems, but around here I don't see the benefit. Does anyone have a copy of this new advisory?

I'm wondering the same thing. It's going to be a pretty big learning curve. But Rochester has been a department to try new things in recent years.

Photo floating around the internet. Apparently it's a month away from being delivered.

Wait, then what is White Plains? And how can their be a Public Safety Commissioner and a Fire Commissioner in the same city?
-
The REV Group owns E-One Fire Apparatus, Wheeled Coach Ambulances, Road Rescue Ambulances, and several other companies.

I hope so. I surely hope it isn't a repeat of what Daimler-Chrysler was trying to do buying a bunch of diverse brands, like Freightliner, Thomas School Buses, Medic Master Ambulance, Orion Buses, Sterling (Ford) Trucks, American LaFrance fire apparatus, Detroit Diesel, in an attempt to build their portfolio but instead running most of them all into the ground (now Freightliner and Western Star are making a comeback). This company seems more stable and focused though. I see E-One starting to make a comeback and quality reportedly is improving, as shown with recent large orders from Boston and Chicago, amongst others, who specifically went with E-One for E-One's quality (or what they claimed) and features offered, with other cities following suit. They've also been building heavy-duty ESU trucks for NYC for several years now. But with you said, it could have gone imploded otherwise, and maybe the current KME ownership saw that and knew it was time to get out, and this was their golden parachute.

Wait, when did Mount Vernon get a Department Of Public Safety? I thought Police and Fire were separate?
-
Well said, John. I noticed the article and the members interviewed pointed out the more social and fraternal parts of the organization then the actual safety aspects. And people said they would move out of the town because of this, but no one said they were willing to pay more taxes for it. If you look at their website ( http://ingramvfd.org/ ), they have equipment that looks very old and substandard, and will need replacement soon. One is a midmount quint that is close to 40 years old, and to buy and maintain even a used one is an expensive thing. And three aging, single engine firehouses. And, as pointed out above, they only do 61 runs a year. If you look at the map, they are enveloped by Pittsburgh. It's what in some areas of this county would be a single engine first due. In this particular situation, not looking at it emotionally and objectively, it makes sense. I understand this is a difficult, devastating thing. But, again, given the picture of the department portrayed by the members in the media, there's no reason why they can't continue on as a service organization to the town and still keep providing what they do. They could probably keep an Engine somehow. This is going to be the future of the fire service. I was speaking with a friend from Oklahoma today, he reminded me of my time in Texas, where this is called "annexing". Except in Austin, where everything is going from being a regional county service to a local service again lol. Please also note, from a buffy perspective, that ALF Quint they have is pretty sweet.

This company also owns a whole bunch of RV brands, school bus manufacturers, and other specialty vehicle manufacturers. And the following ambulance manufacturers: Wheeled Coach, Horton, AEV, Road Rescue, Leader, Marque, and McCoy Miller. What sucks about this to me is that another family owned fire service business becomes a thing of the past. But it seems this company has good intentions and will keep the brands separate, and keep the jobs.

The Ford F-450 chassis is becoming popular in Westchester. I worked in an agency that had a 2012 GMC (van chassis) Type III and a 2009 Ford F-450 4x4 Type I (Pickup chassis). The Ford F-450 was better suited to handle the increasing weight of today's modules, handled and turned better, and the 4x4 came in handy several times. The cab is much more comfortable and quitter, and the engine is also easier to access, making maintenance quicker. 65-B-2 2016 Ford F-450/Lifeline

Here are photos I have of all the Greenburgh PD cars assigned to Car 73, which is a Patrol Car and ALS Flycar staffed by a Police Officer who is also a Paramedic. These photos stretch from 2003 to this morning. I believe I got them all (not sure about 2008-2012 when I lived in Texas). I'd love to see photos of previous Greenburgh PD Car 73 vehicles, post 'em if you've got 'em.

Tarrytown PD has placed this 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe SSV into service as Car 60, which is the patrol supervisor. It features a new graphics scheme, which is kind of familiar if you look at the photo below this one.

One of the most beautiful Chief's cars I've ever seen. Ardsley Fire Department Car 2011 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe Assigned to the new Chief Of Department, TJ Knoesel (Second generation Department Chief) BTW, need help. If anyone's looking to have their apparatus photographed or can pull out a truck for a few minutes for me, let me know. I'm looking to practice some things with my camera.
