Pleasantville has always been a tough parade to shoot. The time and tree lined streets make lighting difficult, and rain has dampened some years. However, it's always an enjoyable parade.

I'm wondering if any apparatus comitees have or are taking the Pierce PUC into consideration? I had the oppurtunity to check one out, on the very nice Impel chasis a few weeks ago for the first time. It really is a great concept, and frees up a lot of space. The hosebed and crosslays are low and easy to access, and the pump is easier to service. There is a TON of storage space. I think it's going to be the next big revolution in fire apparatus. I'm still waiting to see the new Pierce PUC with the top/side mount pump panel, I hear it's an awesome Engine! Pierce also has put the PUC on a 75' RM Quint, Phoenix is trying one out as we speak, and it will also be available on Pierce's Contender brand.

Who would be the ones to test and try it? Although I think the PUC has some drawbacks, I think it also has a lot of features that make it a perfect fit for some departments. If you're considering apparatus of this type, always ask if you can borrow the demo for a few days to see how it works and really get to use it. Don't forget, it's a custom apparatus- crosslays can be moved higher, and just about anything else. You're not really losing compartment space due to the way the pump is configured....there is no true "pump housing", so you actually gain compartment space AND shorten your wheelbase. Here's some of the benefits of the PUC, via Pierce's site: http://www.piercemfg.com/ModelDetails.html...c7-767435ef7524

As opposed to standing on the side of the rig, where you can't see anything? Or in traffic? I just saw photos from a friend taken from the pump panel of a top mount PUC. The camera is an option that's intergrated into the Command Zone system. From what I could tell on the photos, you can see around the engine, the only exception would be if you have a raised roof. The stairs that fold down seem pretty straightfoward. I do admit it may be a pain to climb up and down, but if you want a top mount pumper and don't want to sacrifice wheelbase, this seems like a smart way to go. Although not everyone may like it, it's a pretty unique configuration that gives you plenty of space.

And that's ME! OK, thanks to a friend for the update: SSU-15 will carry most, if not all, the equipment from the current trailer. The trailer would be used to carry additional cribbing, etc. It will be staffed "cross floor" as needed on tech rescue assignments, but it may be staffed 24/7 somewhere down the line. The number does come from the Engine numbering scheme, as mentioned above.

Cool photos! It's great to see a politican who cares, and a department who's smart enough to show appreciation for it!

I attended when I was an explorer from 93-97, and as an advisor from 98-04. It's a GREAT day, there's a ton to be learned and I still have fond memories of the event.

This thread is intended to serve as an online get-well card for Scarsdale PD Officer Jefferey Santo, who was injured on the job on Memorial Day (5-26-08), when an SUV collided with his PD Motorcycle while he was enroute to a parade detail in New Rochelle. This thread will be passed along to him. Best wishes to Officer Santo for a speedy and full recovery.

Ana, Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this diffcult time. Thanks for taking the time to come on EMTBravo to share with us about your brother, it is much appreciated and valuable to learn about someone who I wish I had met. He sounds like an awesome human being and I'm sure there was a higher cause for him, and although I know the wound will never heal or even make sense, please take comfort in knowing their are hundreds of people praying for him, and I'm sure he's having a great time riding up above. I've had family ripped from me tragically, and although I still have trouble comprehending it, I take comfort in knowing that there is a reason for everything that happens. Please let me know if I or the members of this site can be of any assitance to you or your family whatsoever. The EMTBravo family is here 24/7/365 for you, and shares the same sentiment. Seth G.

Here's a photo of what's becoming increasingly common all over: (Photo by me, from http://www.x635Photos.com) It adds a great amount of weight to buildings sometimes not designed to carry such a load, and in some cases even structurally modified to accomodate it. Additionally, the electrical wires and tranmission from the antennas can pose their own hazards. Not to mention making ventilation difficult, which I'm sure are mentioned in detail in both publications but I feel I should point out so everyone keeps them in the back of their mind.

Recently, I saw a box truck parked outside a law firm that was being used as a billboard. The law firm specialized in defending DWI drivers. The advertisment advised potential clients to refuse the field sobriety test, refuse the breathalyzer test, and refuse the blood, hair or any other test. How legal is this? I know in my eyes, it's very immoral and unethical, but what happens in court if the driver refuses all these tests? Is there another legal consequence? How do they prove the DWI charge?

Cablevision doesn't carry that channel (like many others- because they're too greedy). HOWEVER, if last season was correct, it was shown on Fox Reality Channel about this time last year, and replayed on My9 in September. I was able to watch the first episode by downloading it for free via the Tivo Amazon Unbox feature. AWESOME show, and the 2nd season premiere was awesome! I just wish they did this for the LA County Fire Academy as well.....

The Medic works for Westchester EMS (Stellaris Health/Northern Westchester Hospital), the not-for-profit EMS company that provides ALS for northeastern Westchester County under contract with several municipalities. It was most likely 45-M-1 that covered the call. Also, the correct spelling of the medic's name is Garavito, NOT Garabito as the article states. Those who have worked with her know her formerly as. She always gets the interesting calls! Just a reminder how critical a PCR can be....each and every one, we all have our "frequent fliers". From the article, it appears Paramedic Garavito did an excellent job documenting the incident. I just don't think it's fair that her name was published in the paper in a murder trial....it always makes me worry about witness intimidation, especially in a small community.

Interesting article. What does everyone think about this? http://cbs11tv.com/local/firefighter.sues.UP.2.723509.html

Although I am a strong advocate of CAFS, in this particular incident, I was actually just trying to learn, that's all. I vaguely remember reading a story about a large liquor store fire somewhere, and they used foam to knock the fire down, and it helped to keep it from spreading. Also, I don't know if it was the same article, but I also remember the runoff getting into the sewer system and igniting, and they used high-expansion foam to suppress it. Another article I read, I remember the FD letting the building burn, with no exposure issues, so they didn't have to deal with the runoff. One of the things I like, from the standpoint of a member, about this forum is I can learn from other member's experiences. I'm really interested in learning about foam recently and how often it is applied. Many departments spec foam on their engines, but rarely use it. I'm trying to figure out when and how often it is used, and why.

Awesome story! FULL STORY: http://cms.firehouse.com/web/online/News/I...k/46$59580

Great shots Chris! Looking foward to seeing some more. Looks like quite the battle! Also, I don't know the size of the liqour store, but was any foam used? Also, was any containment done so that the potentially flammable runoff didn't go anywheres?

I was recently reading an article in one of the emergency services papers that Danbury, CT had a large brush fire, in which they requested air support from CSP-1, which was unavailable. Since WCPD aviation is so close to Danbury, would they have responded if called? Did Danbury know of that resource?

Great shots, awesome truck! Thanks for sharing!
