  1. Found these photos at another forum (FireEngines.net). Photos by Dave Broadwell of lacountyfire.com FYI, these are brand new rigs. That must have been some radiant heat!! http://www.modelfiretrucks.net/smf/index.p...ach=17694;image http://www.modelfiretrucks.net/smf/index.p...ach=17692;image http://www.modelfiretrucks.net/smf/index.p...ach=17696;image (Photos By Dave Broadwell)
  2. Is the Capelli project even a done deal? As far as temporary headquarters goes if the above is accurate, Yonkers FD will do things as they always do....the right way. And Capelli should foot all costs including building the new headquarters, and while he's at it, throw in funding and land for a training center......and make completion of those projects a REQUIRMENT before ground is even broken. That way, he'll be forced to keeping his word.
  3. To note, the damaged engines in the photos were new ones. Both LAFD and LACoFD have excellent dedicated body and mechanical shops as part of their departments. They are already in the process of repairing the damage, a majority of which was cosmetic.
  4. I've confirmed that those photos were taken by Dave Broadwell. He is a Captain of the LACoFD, and owner of www.lacountyfire.com
  5. I want to know what stethescope you're using, and why it works best for you? Also, I want to know where you got it and if you got a bargain...there's so many places to buy from nowadays.

  7. A very graphic and detailed article. Shouldn't ambulances be built better than this? Every time I see a LODD ambulance accident, it seems the ambulance is ripped open like a tin can. This could have easily happened here. Thoughts and prayers. http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dl...80356/1006/NEWS
  8. In the UK, they wrap up taxes into the gas prices. That's why they drive smaller and more fuel efficient vehicles over there. I see cash as the gas station owner's excuse to pocket more money....I'm positive that at some stations some of the "cash transactions" don't get reported. Some of the major brands base the stations profit off a percentage system, meaning now the owners of the stations are getting a higher percentage, meaning more profit. The only good thing I see about gas prices being high is that it's going to force people to look for alternative energy and transportation sources. However, it drives up the price of everything else, which has a devastating effect on the economy. Meanwhile, the oil industry is making record profit, and getting 17 billion in tax cuts. Maybe it's time we put a cap on gas prices. My country invaded Iraq and all I got were these high oil prices.
  9. OK, I have to concede and agree with you now as you have a strong point. The ambulance box was a Horton, and they're traditonally pretty sturdy, and also bill themselves as one of the safer-construction boxes out there. So, in effect, this could have easily been an FDNY ambulance. I just looked at the damage and thought that there's got to be a better way to make ambulances, as this isn't the first time I've seen damage to an ambulance like this.

  13. Is this going to affect firefighting operations? Are FD's in Greenburgh making contigency plans?
  14. Personally, I think there's a huge difference in the way a Wheeled Coach is constructed then the way a Lifeline is constructed. There's many things that the ambulance industry can implement that can make a huge impact on safety without making sacrifices elsewhere.
  15. Many departments already do, whether it's a tanker or some other item......
  16. What a horrific tragedy. And to think it was only one year ago- in modern times. Hopefully, these guys didn't die in vein, and the many lessons learned get applied. Thoughts and prayers.
  17. Yonkers FD does have a tanker. You can see it in this shot: http://www.x635photos.com/displayimage.php...um=40&pos=7 I'm suprised that tankers are not being relocated for a "sleepover" pre-emptively. I heard that water may not even be existent at times. It would be a smart move to position the Metro North tanker cars for the duration of this incident on sidings on the Harlem and Hudson lines, both of which run through the Greenburgh water district.
  18. Sleepy Hollow got a new ambulance- what's the details?
  19. LOL! I was thinking the same thing! You beat me to it! A mounted unit is great, but is it really neccesary in Mount Vernon at this time? County PD has a Mounted Unit that would be more then happy to assist MVPD whenever a mounted unit may be needed. Obviously, they have the funding for this, and obviously PD is better funded then FD, but couldn't the money be better spent by putting more officers on the street?
  20. Illegal Immigrant, Drunk, whatever, this guy was still a human being and didn't deserve to die the way he did, no matter what. Only one person knows who did this, and that's the killer himself. He didn't just end up dumped on the side of the road, left to suffer and die. Whomever that may be, that person is going to have to live with the fact that they are a murderer and took another human being's life in such a disrespectful manner for the rest of their life, and eventually answer for it.
  21. I would assume that's because of Scarsdale VAC having Career Paramedics, who can ride ALS/BLS while someone drives. I would definetly do a ride along, as suggested above, with a busy service that runs BLS 911 ambulances, such as Empress, to see if you like what it's all about. I know you're looking in Southern Westchester, but I'd reccomend a busy VAC, like possibly Cortlandt VAC, Croton VAC, Ossining VAC or Peekskill VAC, all of which you'll see a lot more volume as an EMT then Scarsdale. In Southern Westchester, consider Village Of Mamaroneck VAC.
