Anyone going to see the "Waterfalls" in NYC? I think it's a cool public arts display. Especially the waterfall of the Brooklyn Bridge. http://www.nycwaterfalls.org/ Feel free to share your photos here!

Also, forgot to ask, any word on a new Scarsdale Engine?

However, when they registered (and posted) chances are their IP (in easy terms, their internet "address") was recorded, which, in some cases, can be used to trace back to the computer or house it came from.

My question is, if Stamford has ONE Police Department, ONE EMS service, ONE Department Of Public Works, ONE City Hall, etc etc....then what's the need for 6 seperate fire departments? I'm not saying the volunteer system needs to be abolished, I'm just saying their is a lot of fat that can be trimmed and responses standardized and streamlined. Let's try to remember that we're all here for one reason....to protect the public we're sworn to serve. Imagine if everyone took all this energy and passion and put it into training, equipment, public education, etc. Instead, it's being wasted on pointless tit-tat egos and pride (not this thread, I'm referencing what's actually going on). Everyone is so passionate about fighting with one another. ALL Stamford FD's should be given a lesson on UNITY and COMPRIMISE. This whole situation is an embarrasment to the fire service, and a fine example of politics, egos, and heritage holding the fire service back and ultimately costing lives and property. You have some GREAT minds and experience on both sides of the debate.....imagine if both sides synergized and set an example for departments across the US.

Rye's first due includes a tight downtown with buildings of various heights, a large high school, churches, and a number of other hazards that a truck company is needed for, such as Playland. Also, Rye has many large mansions in which a aerial ladder is needed for master stream access, ventilation, and/or rescue. The also have a portion of the New Haven line of Metro North Commuter railroad running through, some of it elevated. Evacuation plans call for the use of ladder trucks. I'm not sure how tall their tallest building is, but I am sure that that doesn't make any difference as to staffing.

This arts project was privately funded. No matter what else is going on, art is an important to the millions in NYC who appreciate it. Saying that it's a waste of money is the same thing as saying that we should close the Met, or the Botanical Gardens, etc. Art opens up minds, brings people together, and provides entertainment. It also brings in money to NYC with the thousands expected to visit the city to see the waterfalls. Hotels, resturants, etc will all benefit, and the "trickle down" effect will be beneficial. Yes, NYC does pay ridiculously low wages to it's cops and firefighters, an issue that I'm empathetic with....however, one doesn't have anything to do with the other. Until you have an administration in City Hall who views public servants for what they're worth instead of just costs, or their is a massive PR campaign by the Unions during election time, nothing is going to happen. If the Police Officers and Firefighters feel strongly that this arts project affects their salary, then they should protest and make the public aware. Or, change the law so that the city can take public donations to supplement their salary.

Here's the official press release. Congrats to all!

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up! Someone had mentioned that it may have been a demo. I know their are guys from Scarsdale FD on here-anyone have more info? Here is a photo: Scarsdale's New Ladder (Link to Crimson's Site) Hopefully, jjpinto or one of our photog's here on the site will have more photos to share soon. On a side note, I think this is the first Crimson ever to be delivered in Westchester.

Why not get a cat? Probaly be more effective at remidiating the problem then the administration.

He beats the heck out of his turnout gear that he uses for frequent training classes. A 2 day turnaround time is a miracle, lol! They must be fast!

An Aerialscope is like a crane, basically, with a bucket on the end. It has a lot more stength then a typical tower ladder, although I can't quote numbers. It is a very versatile and easy to use apparatus, and durable, too. I believe that's what West Nyack is using. I'm not saying it should be used as a crane, but it is definetly beneficial in technical rescues. I believe that HFD23 has used Hartsdale's TL-15 at one time to effect a technical rescue, as a rigging point.

Some departments seem to prefer certain apparatus. I'm sure it's for a variety of reasons, but I'm curious if any department sticks with a certain brand of apparatus because the dealer has provided them with excellent support or service in the past? I know several departments who won't purchase a certain brand(s) because they hate the dealer, and other departments who will only go with one brand because of the great service they get from the dealer. Personally, all fire apparatus manufacturers have their flaws. I feel that the dealer is the person who really counts when it comes to the brands image. Therefore, if the dealer doesn't provide adequate service and support, then they're tarnishing the brand. Or, do some departments just purchase apparatus based on name or heritage?

I'm just curious, what's the tax base in Rye like? Last I knew, it was a pretty wealthy community. I wish all Rye firefighters the best. Knowing many of them, both career and volunteer, I know all they really care about, when it comes down to it, is the superior service that they provide to their citizens. Rye is a fire department that's rich in heritage and pride, not only money, and I personally think that the career guys need to have a full crew on the apparatus each and every time they turn on that siren. Both the career guys and the volunteer guys want each other to go home safely at the end of their shift or the end of the call, because that's what matters the most at the end of the day regardless of how each percieves one another. I can't see anyone (in the fire service) fighting increased staffing, because who does it hurt really?

Recently, there's been a lot of "buzz" about intervenous cooling of patients suffering an MI or stroke prehospitally. There's even an article about it in this month's issue of JEMS. Is any agency in the area looking into, or participating in the clinical trials for what's looking to be a future standard for EMS care. The studies look very promising.

The new Greenville Squad Support Unit 15 looks like it has been completed by Ferrara! I don't know where the number 15 came from. Greenville is a part of Squad 6, and their current Rescue is Rescue 29, which I thought this was replacing. Is Greenville in Battalion 15? I'd like to know the same.....anyone?

I know Elite Fire Apparatus was bought out by Wolverine Fire Apparatus, and they are finishing some of the customer orders from Elite, as well as warranty issues. I'm sure someone on this forum can inform us as to where the apparatus was in the build stage when Elite halted production, and if Wolverine will be completing the order. There's got to be someone from Irvington on here....... http://www.wolverinefire.com/

Agreed. My point was more that the administration of the PD seems to be able to get more done (like the grants) then the administration of the FD can.

What are the issues with the Seagrave TL? It seems like it's had issues ever since it was delivered. Is it the chasis, motor, aerial, hydraulics? I know MVFD Fleet Maintanence is one guy with no budget. Why even bother with having fire apparatus if you're not going to invest into keeping them in shape, and subsequently have continuous downtime due to pure neglect. I know PM is just a dream since the mechanic has his hands quite full. I think that DPW has more guys assigned to fix garbage trucks- maybe they should send some over to help keep MVFD's fleet on the road. Maybe even hire Rapid Fire Services to help out when needed. It seems MVFD just dumps money into putting band-aids on things, instead of investing in the future- which in the long run, actually SAVES money. And PD is getting horses. When will it end? Can't MVFD put a clause in it's contract about apparatus? I mean, you still have guys riding in open cabs in a high volume, urban fire department, next to the one of the largest cities in the world, in one of the wealthiest areas of our nation. If Mount Vernon can't afford to provide life safety services to it's citizens (does it still only have ONE ALS ambulance assigned to the city?), then it's needs to abolish itself and let it be absorbed by one or more of it's larger neighbors who can better intergrate it into it's tax base.

Mount Vernon already has a Ladder 4. It's stationed in Greenville (j/k!) It's good to see Yonkers lending a hand to Mount Vernon. I wonder who asked who though. However, I hope it's not restriped, as I hope this is only a short term solution, and MVFD will take advantage of one of the many fire apparatus manufacturers stock truck programs. Something like this would be perfect for Mount Vernon. It's ready to be delivered and to go into service. http://www.piercemfg.com/StockDeliveryDeta...8b-37a801ccc2bf Or, Ferrara has some really good values as well. Here's another good "fit" for Mount Vernon that could be delivered immediately: http://www.ferrarafire.com/apparatus/demo_units/index.html The HD-107 listed already has a similar striping scheme to MVFD!!
