As a former Northeastern University Paramedic School student, I am just shocked at this. Newark usually goes to the top three students in the class (while the rest go to FDNY), for two weeks of ride along time at the end of the porogram. I rode along in Newark as part of the Northeastern University program, and it was an excellent system to learn in- I'm really shocked that this even happend, plus embarassing the department further by putting it on YouTube. Sure, antics go on in EMS systems, but Newark is VERY busy, and I don't even know how they had time for this. It's sad but it sounds like the students were victimized, which I can see happeneiing. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Shame on all involved, especially (in my case) the students for their hateful action imitating a horribly orginization, and for damaging the reputation of the program.

Interesting move for Bombadier, especially considering the current airline economy. Note that they're the same company that made the Metro North M-7 trains. FULL STORY:

Here's a link to the trailer for the show: http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/b...bctid1657896860 And to answer EagleShield's question, it is a UP SD 70 MAC. I took that photo a while ago, I believe while I was in SoCal.

Recently, in my travels, I passed by this hybrid hotel/apartment building several times. I noticed that many people were using the fire road entrance for daytime and overnight parking. This "fire lane", after discussion with the FF's who cover this area, was put into place so that a ladder truck and engine could access remote parts of this large residential complex. for rescue and suppresion purposes The complex has been repeatedly citied. I do note that it should be made more clear that no parking is allowed, maybe paint something on the gate or post bigger signs. I don't know why, but this struck a nerve. These people should know that it's a fire lane based on the signs and painted curb. The reason the gate is removed from the road is so the fire apparatus could pull in, out of traffic, and unlock the gate. From what I was told, for any alarms in this portion of the complex, it is SOP for the first due truck to gain access via this road, and they routinely do so for automatic alarms and even EMS calls. However, by their ignorant actions, they clearly don't care about the lives and property that they are putting at risk because they don't feel like walking an extra couple of feet to the parking lot. This is why having a chrome bumper isn't always a good thing. Is it just me, or are these actions inconsiderate? (Note this truck sat there for several hours, with the owner nowhere to be found.)

"The Academy", Season 2, has premiered it's first episode on Fox Reality Channel entitled "Another Black Monday". This show follows recruits from the LA County Sherriff's Office from their first day of the academy until graduation. It's one of my favorite shows, and I'm glad it's back for a second season! (In case you don't get Fox Reality, episodes are available via Amazon Unbox on Tivo) I believe it's on every Monday night. http://www.foxreality.com/theacademy/

Season 2 episodes are now available for download on iTunes (and other similar sources) for $1.99 an episode. Good news for us that don't have Fox Reality!!!

With the exception of a marine unit, what are some safe ways to fight a boat on fire in a boatyard? I would assume it's not safe to go out on the docks with a charged hoseline and burning boats (is the dock an exposure)? I would assume nighttime fires complicate things even more. How do you keep the fire from spreading safely? Deck guns and portable monitors?

For those who subscribe to FirePics, I reccomend viewing these intense photos of an MVA involving two Lynn, MA Police cars (versus each other). Pretty dramatic: http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/index....showtopic=10147 Photos were taken by Box41313 on FirePics. Thoughts and prayers are with the officers involved and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Another EXCELLENT and quality job by Specialty Warning Systems. The truck looks great and functional, best wishes MKFD. Let's not also forget that SWS has outfitted the Paramedic Flycars that service Mount Kisco as well. In addition, SWS has been a longtime advertiser and supporter of EMTBravo, helping to subsidize monthly server costs by advertising on this site. By supporting SWS, you in turn help keep EMTBravo online and free. So, if you have a vehicle coming up, please consider SWS and TELL THEM you found them through their ad on EMTBravo!!

This is ridiculous. Some people, with gas prices nowadays, NEED to put gas on a credit card!! FULL STORY: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080618/ap_on_...es_credit_cards

Sounds like a very serious accident on the SMRP that's posted in the IA-Westchester section: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=26327 Just a few questions on the incident, from a learning perspective. I am positive that their are people on here that were on scene and/or can answer my questions, so please don't just lurk! #1. Chappaqua has a 54-B-2? I thought they only had one ambulance? Did they keep the old 54-B-1 when they bought the current 54-B-1? If so, where is it housed? I vaguely remember Chappaqua storing an ambulance in a tent besides their building when they got the new ambulance, but is this still the case? #2. There were a lot of units that responded to this call. As we all know, the SMRP in this area is very tight? Was there a staging area establsihed so that the roadway wasn't completly inundated with emergency vehicles? #3. Where did they land Stat-Flight? #4. ICS. Was ICS implented at this incident, if so what sectors? #5. It looks like all the 45-Medics were commited to this incident, as well as numerous ambulances. If this had been a fire, their would have been numerous relocates. Were their any EMS relocates? Chappaqua's certainly been having a busy summer!

60 Control does not pay enough, even with differentials and overtime, to live in the Hudson Valley. Most of the dispatchers at 60 Control are forced to work a second job or have a spouse work full time to put a meal on their family's table. In the Metro NY area, the salary is on the poverty line, IMO. Absolutely ridiculous. With that being said, the schedule is one of the best I've ever seen. The staff at 60 Control are making strides compared to years past, putting such things as the new Fieldcom into place, and starting planning for an expanded dispatch facility. The staff at 60 Control is one of the most talented, caring, and generous groups of people I've ever had the privledge of working with. They're constantly and unfairly dumped on, placed at fault for issues way beyond their control. It's by far one of the most complicated and draining places I've ever worked. They have a tough, tough job, and many people don't know all that goes into it. They work tirelessly for little or often no thanks or appreciation. Some people can't cut it and quit, and some burnout or can't afford to work there, and that's why turnover is so high. However, you do have senior people their that do have a wealth of experience and knowledge, and dedication to the quality of 60 Control. The future looks bright, however I would love to see 60 Control dump CSEA and go with a union that truly has a dispatcher's needs in mind. Yes, there are Westchester County politics in play, but it's no different then any other county in the area. HFD219 hit the nail on the head on this issue. I HIGHLY reccomend the test to anyone who is interested in a career in Emergency Communications. DO NOT take this test as a "stepping stone" to becoming a firefighter or cop, this is a job and if you're going to go into it, go into it wanting the job. Also, if the voting public, and elected officials (meaning career and volunteer chiefs and commissioners), continue to remain apathetic about the critical link, the real first responders, that save lives every day yet are never in the limelight, then I doubt anything will change. 60 Control had a huge impact on my life, and it was a great job- it's too bad I didn't realize it while I was there. Looking back, dispatching is even more rewarding and more challenging then being a firefighter. I was one of the first hired during the "Henry Campbell Revolution". I'm very appreciative of the lessons I learned their, and the friends I made there who continue to support me to this day like family. The only thing I hated about the job was the mandatory holdovers due to understaffing.

Westchester airport projects set to take off http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008806290366 $23.5 million? Can't the Westchester County Airport be modified to accomodate jetbridges? It certainly would be more of a convience that a covered walkway when boarding the jetBlue A320's and Airtran 717's that probaly make up the bulk of passenger traffic. Also, I hope they improve some of the post-security concessions available to passengers waiting in the terminal areas. And, as far as parking.....is there room for the County to build another parking garage? I know that's needed.

Looks awesome, also looks like a lot of quality hard work went into it. Who did the conversion?

I guess this is going to put a huge dent in the Port Authority's plan to make Stewart the "4th Major Airport".

I'm just curious. jetBlue's A320's that operate from Westchester County Airport to Florida. Those same aircraft are also operated on the transcon JFK-L.A. flights. Could Westchester handle an A320 going to Los Angeles, or are their weight/fuel restrictions that prevent it? I would think with all the business travelers in Metro NY and CT going back and forth from each coast, that there would be a good market for a transcontinental flight.

Uniden Bearcat Trunktracker IV BCD996T base and and Uniden Bearcat Trunktracker IV BCT396T portable. I use the Butel software and Radio Reference to program them. Both scanners are VERY complicated, I'm still figuring them out- but they offer so many great features and I can't wait to be able to put many of them into use. For an antenna, my portable has the OEM one. I use this for my base scanner: http://www.scannerworld.com/content/product/model/ANT135BNC As for purchasing my scanners, I use Scannermaster, they have the best selection, website, and service IMO. It works great for me.
