  1. But, what is the cost of lost firefighter productivity due to increased exhaustion of heavy and unnecessary structural turnout gear and the strains it adds to a firefighter? I believe LAFD did a study, I'm trying to find it. Most departments out West, and it's actually spreading nationwide, are equipping their firefighters with proper wildland gear. If some departments can afford a fancy brush truck, they can afford proper brush truck PPE.
  2. I hear AAA Emergency Supply Co Inc will have a demo available starting next week. I'd contact your local sales rep to inquire.
  3. I've never been, but from what I hear, yes. The following is a list of vendors that will be at the show this year. And I'll be there too with the company I work for, and we'll have some really cool stuff. http://www.unionhistoricalfiresociety.com/VendorsAppearing/
  4. Has anybody come across these in our area? http://denver.cbslocal.com/2016/04/15/denver-firefighter-death-prompts-nationwide-alert/
  5. I was monitoring all of the agencies, simultaneously, using a couple of scanners during this most recent incident involving the kayak. If you're referencing my prior post on this topic, I suggest you go back and listen to ALL the audio of the following agencies on the following channels: NOTE THESE ARE ALL INDIVIDUAL SEPERATE CHANNELS THAT WERE ALL USED DURING THE KAYAK INCIDENT: 60 Control-46.26 60 Control-Fire 14 60 Control-Fire 18 WCDES Fireground 1 WCDES Fireground 5 WCDES Fireground 7 Marine VHF 16 Tarrytown FD Yonkers FD Operations Yonkers PD Empress EMS Greenburgh PD & EMS Irvington PD WCPD Now, after listening to ALL of the audio, explain how it is "bashing" and not restating the FACTS of what happened. Please explain how that is not something that can be improved on.

  8. Looking to see what other use antenna wise to monitor the WCDES Trunked System. I currently use a Uniden Bearcat BCT15X to monitor. I've tried different antennas and configurations, but my reception mostly always sucks, especially with signals very close to me. I live in Battalion 14, and I can hardly hear what's going on, but Battalion 16, which is way north of me, I get crystal clear. I can't put an outside antenna, but I do have it as high up on an inside window frame as I can. It's a wideband antenna that's basically a "rubber ducky". I've also tried a mobile wire antenna in different places. I'm interested to see how others have their base station antennas setup. Any help would be appreciated.

  15. @SageVigiles I know you knew this guy. Sorry for the loss of your friend in your company. Also just found out the guy who shot him got off without charges. I guess he thought the firefighters were intruders, and shot them. The civilian he shot was his brother. Something similar happened in Arkansas as well a few months ago, if I remember correctly. Anyway, thoughts and prayers to all involved.

  17. And yet another mess today. NO agency, IC, or dispatch center could figure out single interoperability frequency they should be on. Yonkers FD had the best information with visual on the subject, up to date information, on shore with wife, on Marine VHF 16 (from shore), and no one was working to communicate with them or could figure out how to. By the time the information was passed through dispatch centers (multiple), the information was 3-4 minute old. And no one relinquished or tried to consolidate command to Yonkers FD Battalion 1, or go to their existing command post, despite it being in their district. Note, hundreds of kayakers of all experience on river today with the beautiful weather. And good job by the 60 Control dispatcher (636) on trying to coral all this info and disseminate it as best as possible. The Hudson River remains the "wild west" of emergency services.

  22. Interstate Truck Equipment, which was one of the largest and oldest Seagrave and Mack Fire Apparatus dealers in the country, serving the Washington, DC area, is going out of business. Of the many things they are known for, is buying out the remainder of Mack chassis, parts, and tooling when they went out of business. They have also refurbished numerous Macks and Aerialscopes, including Kentland's. Belltown (Stamford, CT) has their Mack CF Aerialscope in the middle of a extensive refurbishment there. Does anyone know if this will affect that, or will they be able to complete it before closing the doors?
