I know there had been talk about staffing Rescue 4 full time being batted around for years now....is there any more chance of that becoming a reality, especially with a new apparatus being delivered?

Yes, I've moved to Austin, TX. (Austin is the Texas State Capital, located "Hill Country" Central Texas) To those who are just finding out about this, I was trying to keep it on the down low for a while for personal reasons until we moved and got settled and hope many of you will understand. Kris and I are very happy in our new hometown, it's a great place to live and raise a family, and is insanely affordable. Austin is definetly not like the Texas stereotype!! Austin is a very beautiful, vibrant, friendly community with plenty of things to do and see. It is so much more relaxed then Westchester. And no more SNOW! Although their are certain things I will miss a lot, like my many friends, I'm excited about this new chapter in my life, especially after what I've been put through over the past few years. My email remains the same, seth@emtbravo.com. If you want my new cell phone number or mailing address, please email me. Don't worry about EMTBravo....I started it in Boston and will continue to administrate from here in Austin and have an excellent NY based staff. The only things is, my photos from the area will be limited, as I can't afford to make too many trips back and forth with air fares rocketing (jetBlue does fly direct from JFK-AUS w/ an E-190 though!).I hope when I come back, that I can get as many photos as possible of the things that have changed and new deliveries, and that some of you would be willing to help me set up some shoots. Members, The whole "Career Versus Volunteer" nonsense here on EMTBravo.net has got to stop. Some people focus so much on the "divide" that they can't see much else. We are here to serve the public , and instead of each "side" throwing mud at one another because of stereotypes, bias, and prejudices, the smart ones on here should realize both "sides" aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Therefore, time and energy should be diverted from pointless, neverending arguments and turned into conversations about how we can all work together cohesively to provide top-notch emergency services. The "Career Vs. Volunteer" arguments and bickering in the threads have got to stop, and the people involved have to quit embarrasing themselves. All it is is a neverending, ego filled, ignorant, chest thumping pissing contest. This board was launched in 2003, and 5 years later, the same exact comments from both sides still persists, yet I've rarely seen anyone try and rationalize, comprimise, or work towards a resolution. Both sides have serious flaws, and obviously neither side is going to reach out to one another to try and better themselves for the community anytime soon. More people are interested in whining then doing. One of the core values of EMTBravo and this forum is promoting working together, sharing information, and learning together. At times, we've been diverted by the propaganda mentioned above, but I ask that those who truly care about the jobs they do pay no attention to these people, and discuss the topics or issues at hand. We're not here to provide a forum for those who are just here to stir the pot. You waste our time, and everyone else's times, and the staff will have zero tolerance for anyone's nonsense and hijacking of threads by anyone who has an "agenda". An opinion is one thing, but tirelessly harping on it is another. We're also not tolerant of posts containing "Oh, here we go again", etc. If you have an issue, don't self moderate the thread. Contact a moderator or staff member. That's what we are here for. On that note, I want to reenforce that EMTBravo.net's Staff will continue to work to maintain EMTBravo.net for those members with a true interest in being an active member of this community, sharing information and ideas, and working together. Those who contribute in a positive fashion to this forum are greatly appreciated, and we'll do our best on our part to try and put an end to any kind of nonsense that detracts from posts, threads, and members. Thanks Seth G. Director Of Development The EMTBravo Group

Maybe that's not a bad idea. she should spend some time riding with fully staffed companies from New Rochelle or Yonkers, then try riding along in Mount Vernon and noting the differences. But, I sadly don't think anything is going to change Mount Vernon politics, especially if this incident is quashed like so many others. The reality is, the state needs to come in and take over control of Mount Vernon. I'm not saying the NYS is a great goverment by any means, I just think a third party needs to come in for a while and evaluate and make some changes and realign power. Either that, or Yonkers or NYC should annex Mount Vernon.

Garrison Fire Equipment used to be the Hudson Valley ALF dealer.....I guess they dumped ALF after ALF's recent financial troubles and went with Ferrara. Before that, Garrison was the area dealer for Saulsbury, until they got bought out by E-One, and the dealer for Beck until they went out. I believe they sold Hahn before that.....

OK, I've been in EMS for over 10 years now and this is a first for me, first time I've even heard about something like this much less witnessed it. Has anyone gone inside a patients residence on an EMS call, and returned outside to find that someone has spray painted a large happy face and their intials on the side of your agencies brand new, 2 week old ambulance???
-
I noticed in the classifieds that Garrison FD is selling their very unique Jet-Ski Fireboat. I wish I had the money for this, it would be an awesome toy! Is Garrison getting a new fireboat to replace this one, something more "Hudson River friendly"?
-
These look AWESOME! Who staffs these when needed, and when/what do they respond on? They even have Q's on the bumper!!! The only thing I don't like is that the lightbar is so far back...seems like there isn't a whole lot of front/response lighting. Who outfitted these? http://public.fotki.com/lfd171/westchester.../utility_3.html http://public.fotki.com/lfd171/westchester...utility_76.html Thanks to LFD171 and his awesome site for the photos!

Did Hartsdale just send a car with manpower, no apparatus? Did this crew consist of volunteer or paid members? If so, that's an interesting concept. Because, in a lot of cases, all that's really needed is manpower. Sending them in a suburban instead of an engine frees a fire scene of an engine that's probaly not going to be used anyways, and keeps that apparatus available in it's home district (provided there is still enough staffing)
-
Cool, thanks for the info! Hartsdale has sent additional manpower along as needed in a seperate utility car on various occasions that I can remember, always thought that was a smart concept. (Such as when they responded to the Tornado in Hawthorne- they brought all the tools and manpower in a Suburban.)

The boat has been in the "Used Apparatus" classified ads in the back of 1st Responder newspapers for several months now. I can't find anything online, so here's a photo of the ad. On another note, I think I saw this unit at the Firehouse Expo in 1999. It was heavily marketed, but I think Garrison's was the demo and the only one sold. I could be wrong on that though. Here is the old Rescue as it sat in February of this year:
-
This is why city vehicles are disposed of via auction- to give everyone a fair shot. I am 100% positive after seeing this vehicle in February of this year that it had a whole bunch of life still left in it if given proper care, and their would have been many different people who would have wanted to purchase this truck. Not to mention MVFD having a back up Rescue or Haz-Mat unit!! Also, I'm just curious: how did Mount Vernon dispose of fire apparatus in previous years? Just to note, Bakker Towing is a well established heavy truck towing and recovery firm in the Bronx. George Bakker was inducted into the International Tower's Hall Of Fame in Chattanooga, TN in 2004. They've historically built their own wreckers and road service vehicles from scratch. They aren't too far from Mount Vernon, I believe they are on the east end of 233rd St.
-
Scarsdale ordered an ALF Engine???
-
Have they scrapped the crash truck as well? It will be interesting to see if they give it away again, or if it is disposed of using another method.
-
Obviously, it concerns you. We all know that there's duplication of resources throughout Mt. Pleasant and Westchester County. If you failed to notice, this thread is about the new Ladder 56. Let's try and keep it on topic, please. If you wish to discuss another issue, please start a new thread in the correct forum. Thanks Seth
-
Thanks x701. You got any photos of the repaint??
-
Thanks for the info, 20Y2. I think Monte is big enough now to run their own EMS instead of contracting it out. What happened to the OLM fleet? I know they had some Wheeled Coach Type I's delivered in the past few years...did Transcare aqquire/repaint them or did they sell them?

It's my understanding that it is required that NYC firefighters (and PD Officers) can only live in NYC, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange Counties, NY. Now, many NYC FF's and Pollice officers live way up the line to where they can afford to purchase a home. This results in a very long commute, which, in turn, lowers their salary since I don't think anyone figured gas prices would go that high. Shoud NYC let their firefighters live in bordering CT and NJ? That would give a lot more housing options, with a shorter commute? Also, are any firefighters or cops able to take advantage of mass transit, such as Metro North and the Subways to get to work, or are you supposed to have a car with you?

First, I'm not a scab....I'm against the way "The Journal News" acquires photos nowadays, nor a hypocrite, since I have posted several times about this subject. I specifically asked not to be credited or compensated (which was offered) for this photo, for reasons which I will send you a PM about. The only reason I let the photo be used is to help my friends in MVFD out. They've been very good to me, and I in turn want to do the same.
