  1. What's left of the city, anyways. If it hits New Orleans at the current strength, after a $10 billion effort to repair the levees, etc, I don't think that New Orleans could recover this time. The city hasn't even fully recovered from Katrina yet, and I doubt they ever will.
  2. So, any word about Larchmont's Engines? There have been several ALF deliveries over the past few weeks, and I'm sure these are "catch up" orders that were near completion. Will we be seeing a new Engine in Larchmont anytime soon?
  3. I've heard the size inside the cabs of the HME's are quite small, and that's a big drawback for many departments. Except if you're looking for a compact unit.
  4. And, sorry, a really crummy shot of their engine at the Mamaroneck Parade 6-29-06
  5. Broad Channel's Ladder appearing in the Mamaroneck Village Firefighters Parade 6-29-06
  6. Congrats Paul and fellow member of Class 03-05!!!! Best wishes for many years of health and happiness!!! (And great photos, of course, Bill!!)
  7. Elmsford Fire Chief Syd Henry wrote an excellent article that was published in August 2008's edition of "Fire Engineering" magazine, in the "Volunteer Corner" column. Kudos!
  8. You've got to remember DES is a large building and the Comm Operators are confined to one small portion on one side of the building. If the fire alarm goes off, it's dispatched. It's happened several times while I worked there. I don't know what the current evacuation plan is, the only thing I know is that the Fieldcom has all the capabilties of the dispatch center, and it was planned that way. As far as Munson making White Castle runs- he still does that??? I would think he would delegate that duty by now! I remember when we worked together and he was new he used to make the run every Thursday night we worked.
  9. If we expect people not to park or stand in fire lanes, then we shouldn't ourselves. There's absolutely no excuse whatsoever, except for laziness or a poor attitude. When in non-emergency mode, you're expected to follow ALL traffic laws, as far as I know. I know of many emergency service agencies that have a strict policies on this.
  10. Cool photos! What's the story behind the engine that you're restoring? Side note, my wife actually did her junior year of college abroad in Adelaide.
  11. Pretty massive mobilization going on down here...very interesting to observe. I've seen many FEMA teams from multiple cities passing though Austin south on I-35....plus a lot of FEMA vehicles. The teams are being strategically placed. Statewide OEM Center in Austin is also fully active, as Texas has already declared a statewide disaster and Bush has declared it a Federal disaster. From what I'm hearing, the lessons learned from Katrina are being applied and working well so far. The big factor is going to be where it makes landfalll......
  12. Great shots, Jimmy. I, too, took a trip to Phoenix, late last year. Very impressive department, with some interesting concepts. Just a note to anyone who goes to Phoenix, check out the Hall Of Flame museum.....they have a GREAT apparatus collection and a ton of other cool stuff. Here are my photos: http://www.emtbravophotos.com/SpecFeat/X635PhoenixSep07.html
  13. Looks awesome, I'm just suprised that there's not more reflective striping on the lower portion of the trucks (yet?)
  14. BEAUTIFUL!! The "fresh" on this truck won't last long in Newark! Thanks for the awesome photos!! Also an interesting side note, UMDNJ operates an ALF Heavy Rescue. Wonder if that factored into the change from E-One?
  15. Congrats!!!
  16. Wasn't Peekskill's Pierce similar to New Rochelle's old L-13?
  17. Happy birthday to our own Director Of Member Relations, DOC22!! He's always the one to send us a PM wishing us a happy birthday, and now it's our turn! Best wishes for a happy, healthy, and safe 61st!!
  18. Although I lost my latest generation iPod video that I got as a gift last Christmas after losing my first one, and then having iTunes "lose" my library of songs (the backup of which I cannot find), I still love the iPod and hope it will show up soon. On my iPod, you'll find Disturbed, Stone Stour, Fort Minor, Flyleaf, Adema, Apocolyptica, Drowning Pool, Five Finger Death Punch, Slipknot, Cold, Dogfight, Egypt Central, Element Eight, Earshot, Evanesence, Evans Blue, Five.Bolt.Main, From Zero, Fuel, Gaskit, Hurt, I, 10 Years, 32 Leaves, Ill Nino, Linkin Park, Memento, Motograter, Nirvana, Nonpoint, Pressure 4-5, Psydafect, Shinedown, Sixx AM, Staind (their older stuff), Soilwork, Soil, Trapt, Unloco, Stereomud, 3rd Strike, and some other various bands and songs along the same lines.
  19. All Yorktown apparatus will be in the red color scheme and striping found on Engine 270, Ladder 51 and MA-8. I'm curious to know if this rescue will be housed at headquarters, or at the Locksley Rd. station. If it's going to be housed at headquarters, I'm going to asssume that space limitations is going to affect the spec's of the rescue? BTW, good catch once again LFD171!
  20. Is NYPD ESU using a new chasis for REP's? A friend had mentioned that there had been talk of using a medium duty chasis for REP's in the future, and another friend swore he saw an NYPD ESU REP on a Chevrolet/GMC 4500 chasis the other day. Anyone got info??

  22. I believe that the main reason that TL-77 is being retired is due to firefighter safety, since it still has an open cab. I think another reason is due to fleet consistency and maintainence issues. I'm sure it will be missed, however, by numerous YFD members.
  23. Now that I think about it, I think there's a member here that has one of these ESU trucks as his avatar. ace94's ava: http://emtbravo.net/uploads/av-2989.jpg
  24. BEAUTIFUL rig!!!! One of the nicest deliveries I've seen in a long time! Not only is it pretty, but it seems to be spec'd really nicely as well......I really dig the low hosebeds and some of the other firefighter-friendly features that I see...
