  1. Well, I guess it's not an American LaFrance, since I don't know if they're taking new orders yet. Maybe it's a Ferrara, since that is the dealer who previously has been working with NRFD. I'm interested to know, since there's a lot of apparatus manufacturers all of a sudden trying to enter the Westchester market lately......
  2. Looks awesome, can't wait to check it out! Here's a link to the trailer for the show: http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/b...bctid1657896860
  3. Definetly a great show, regardless. It really reflects an industry that has a lot of negative stereotypes in a positive fashion, and of course, to keep viewers interested, they are going to edit the show and show off their equipment. Has anyone else been watching? Hope this show gets picked up for another season. I think Stiloski's would be a great season!
  4. Point is, Bedford Hills FD commisioners think that a $6.5 million dollar firehouse will fit their needs best. They are holding a series of public education events so the community can learn about the project. After that, it's up to the community to decide what they want. However, with what's going on now with the country going into depression and a majority of the BHFD rsidents depending on the stock market, they may have to sit tight for a while. The only way to combat this is to eliminate redundant apparatus and stations and combine operations, which would save millions, but we all know that's never going to happen. Also, if KBHVAC was to house an ambulance there and/or WEMS a medic, then there would be more incentive. It's amazing though that EMS is typically busier then fire in Westcheser, and some operate from the skelliest stations I've ever seen- if they even have one at all.
  5. I probaly know the answer to this question, but are the new probies being hired augmenting the staff, or filling gaps?
  6. Sharp looking ambulance! Best of luck with it! BTW, what is it replacing? Also, is it 4x4?

  8. Heard that Somers has ordered a Sutphen Quint....anyone have details?
  9. Thoughts and prayers are with all those involved. More information on the people and incident: http://www.wusa9.com/news/columnist/blogs/davestatter.aspx
  10. I've heard that Katonah FD has ordered a Quint- can anyone elaborate on this?
  11. Not only an extrodinary actor, but an amazing humanitarian who made thousands of peoples lives better. It's a shame that he had to be taken after a battle with cancer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Newman
  12. Neither canidate is ever going to undo the damage that Bush has done to this country. I don't see a hero coming out of this election, and all one can have is hope that whoever is elected can slow the destruction Bush's impact will continue to have. McCain would be the oldest president ever elected. He has health problems, and it scares the daylights out of me to think that Palin could potentially become the President of this Country. She's an idiot, plain and simple. Obama has the power to inspire, to rally. He has a strong VP to back him up, and is more "in touch" with the generations that will have to live with the decisions he makes. I feel that's something the Federal Goverment needs right now.
  13. I always have a Canon Digital Powershot SD with me wherever I go. They're small, durable little cameras, easy to use, and take great photos. The latest model of this camera line is generally always what I reccomend. The SD890 is a great camera, it is 10MP and has image stabilization. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5507...IS_Digital.html If you're looking for a lower price, any of the older generations of the Powershot SD line work great: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5507...IS_Digital.html And always make sure to get an extra battery, the largest memory card you can afford, and a protective case. (Note that when I go out to shoot photos specifically, I use a Canon Digital SLR)
  14. You're absolutely right....$6.5 million is a lot of money....but that's the price you pay if you want to live in Westchester. If taxpayers truly cared about their fire protection, and the people managing the money did their homework, things would be a lot different. But they're not, and nothing is going to ever change, so why should Bedford Hills, one of the wealthiest communities in the nation, skimp on a building? Heck, the fire district where I used to live blew through $8 million dollars on a addition to a firehouse and renovation to another- for a department with only two engines and a truck, barebones manpower, and less then 900 calls a year. On top of that, the Town had just approved building a $30 million dollar new library. And I'm sure if you put up a pre-fab corrugated steel building "downtown" Bedford Hills, I'm sure the residents would have something to say....
  15. I agree with your point, Barry. Depending on the community. A quint, especially for a community such as Katonah, would work well. Coming from a department that succesfully used a Quint (Ardsley Quint 1, now Ladder 50), I can recall numerous occasions where both the aerial and handlines were deployed succesfully. Quint 1 was first due, and usually rode with all positions filled (Driver, Officer, 4 FF's). It is a single axle 75', with rear outriggers only that could be deployed fast. The aerial and waterway could be controlled from the pump panel. It carried plenty of supply and attack hose, and a full compliment of engine and truck tools. It had a very short wheelbase that could fit down some windy Ardsley streets. When a Quint is spec'd and used like Ardsley does it, then a Quint is a valuable tool in many situations, especially volunteer and rural departments. Down here, a Quint is what it's all about it seems, due to logistics. The City Of Austin does it smart, they staff their Quint companies with 6 people. The City Of Round Rock uses this Pierce Dash 75' Quint, which I think is similar to what Katonah is looking for...... (Photo By me)
  16. Please tell me that those aren't children running by the fire. I think a bonfire is a very quaint tradition, however I do feel this was a little extravagant.
  17. Bedford Hills FD's firehouse is cramped, obsolete, and unsafe. A new firehouse is long overdue. Bedford Hills FD takes a great deal of pride in their equipment and invests a lot in training, and this is not too much to ask for. As far as the price goes, it's one station that will be housing numerous apparatus, firefighters, equipment, and offices. They are not asking to build another whole station. Considering what buildings are costing nowadays, the "aesthetic" appeal many communities now demand, and all the safety requirments that a firehouse needs, I feel the pricetag is quite fair, and will serve the Bedford Hills FD well into the future. Compared to a lot of other public projects in the area nowadays, that is a reasonable price. As far as the taxes go, let's consider how many multi-million dollar mansions, retail, and industrial properties there are in Bedford Hills district.

  19. Being this company is a new advertiser on EMTBravo, which is how I became aware of them, I think this is a really neat product. The website has a ton of great information. http://www.click2enter.net/index.asp Does anyone currently use this product?
  20. A "major announcment" regarding the future of the Tappan Zee Bridge is expected at 11AM this morning, according to LoHud.com. It'll be interesting to see what the announce, and how they're going to go about it. Most importantly, I wonder how long it's going to take and the affect it's going to have on Nyack and Tarrytown. http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008809260365

  22. Just tuned into the live press conference now, a Metro North rep is stating that the new bridge project will be "rail ready", and include Metro North. Also, heard something about "Bus Rapid Transit", although I don't know if that would be Bee-Line or not..... I guess we'll find out the complete story when the conference is done.
