To the members using photos as their avatar (that little photo to the left): If you're going to use someone else's photo, make sure you ask them first if it's OK to use it. And if you do, give them the proper credit- the easiest way to do this is a small line and link in your signature. Although I have no problem with people using my photos, I have an issue when they use my photos without asking me, and without giving me any credit for the photo. For those of use who take photos, we spend a lot of time and money to share them with you all, and to take the photo is really a sign of disrespect for that person's work. This will be added to the forum rules soon. Thanks! -Seth

4,000 gallons arriving initially or dumped. Regardless of fill time, that's a lot of water that's quickly available, and has the potential to allow more time for other tankers to arrive, allow them to slow their responses, or even reduce the need for other tankers. If for some reason, and I see this being a minor issue in a county that has some powerful pumping power, the filling of this tanker causes issues, then the water supply officer needs to plan accordingly. You have heating oil trucks, dump trucks, garbage trucks that all travel along these roadways on a routine basis. There's no reason this tanker can't do the same. Most tankers roll because of driver error or inexperience, or because the tanker is top heavy. There's a department down here that has two tractor-trailer tankers. I believe they are 10,000 gallons each. When they have a fire, they don't even need to call for M/A tankers- because if they do, it can take up to an hour to get one. It also saves them having to go back and forth to a water supply, which can sometimes be tricky to find down here. The real key is though, using water more efficiently (*cough* CAFS* cough*)

With the internet especially, anybody can buy any kind of light in any color....so the color is really irrelevant except for identifying the suspect. Let's not forget, people illegally aqquire guns and use them in crimes everyday....it's a similar thing. There's actually a whole website dedicated to this. A little extreme however: http://www.policeposers.com/

Awesome.....I'm sure it will be a great resource for the Sound Shore community. Between White Plains, Yonkers, and New Rochelle, Westchester is lucky to have some very well equipped and highly trained USAR units. I hope other departments keep them in mind for larger and complicated incidents.

Now that my manufacturer question has been answered, I think, I have another one. You can have a great rescue truck- but will it be staffed and how/how many?

Hey....who was the crew, specifically the medic?

Newark has taken delivery of their new ALF ladders, and they look sharp! I'm sure they will be seeing some action during their time with Newark. Also, I must add that the new color scheme rocks! http://www.fdnytrucks.com/files/html/other...unty/Newark.htm Thanks to Mike Martinelli of FDNYTrucks.com for getting the shots!

I once got an automatic alarm for Vista while working at 60. When the address wouldn't verify in the CAD or supplemental map, I questioned the operator further. She had a 914 number for the residence as well which traced back to another address in Vista. I don't recall all the specifics, but it turned out the call was in Vista, California.

For those of you thhat are familiar with "Mickeys". Unfortunetly, I don't know if it will be the same without Mickey: From Greenburgh Town Supervisor's Email List:

Is this the one that was at Wards Acres? I remember when the Haunted House was open, 2000-ish. If my memory serves me correctly, New Rochelle FD used to have an overtime detail with an engine and charged hoseline when the event was open.

Wow!! Looks awesome! This is clearly a TANKER that's designed to carry water first and foremost, not like many tankers you see being delivered that sacrifice precious tank size in order to make it a "pumper tanker". Also, great firepower bringing 4,000 gallons of water to it's first due on intial attack....sure to save some lives and property during it's lifespan with KFD. Smart move on not "skimping" on tank size. Also, knowing some of the FF's at Kent, I'm sure there will be extensive driver training given this vehicle has very specific and unique driving requirments. HUGE and powerful motor, coupled with a great transmission tied into a large rear diff. And, air and "jake brake" to stop. This chasis is designed to haul anything anywhere! However, as I eluded to before, from what I'm told this tanker will adhere to a strict speed limit and driving protocols..... 5" Stortz off the rear officer's side.

Members, I just want to ask all of the members who enjoy reading our Incident Alerts to sign this thread. We haven't seen much of Truck4 lately, and our IA's have reflected that. Although it's our members who power the Incident Alert section, it's Truck4 who makes it happen, and I think I speak of many members who value his contributions to this forum. From fact checking to correcting format and spelling errors, Truck4 spends numerous "behind the scenes" hours each week making the Incident Alert section as perfect as possible. He has been in command of the IA section from it's creation nearly five years ago, and our IA's have helped fuel the growth of this site. He also gathers information and posts hundreds of IA's each year. So, please, let's give Truck4 some props for his hard work and dedication to this site! We don't want to lose him! Thanks! -Seth G.

I know there are a ton of "jjpinto" photo fans out there....please reciprocate him sharing his photos with all of us over the years by taking a moment to sign this thread. Thanks! -Seth

I know there's more of you that can type a quick note and hit the "Add Reply" button......so please do and show your support for one of our sites greatest assests! I'm asking as many members as possible to help me out with this....

Today marks 3 years since "Jimmy Boy" left this world, leaving our hearts scarred but teaching us many lessons. Jimmy Boy's spirit is still in my heart, and he was an unbelievable child. And, to this day, his parents work tirelessly while Jimmy Boy looks down from above to turn their tragedy into hope and courage for many other families. Thoughts and prayers are with the Arena family on this difficult day. (If you're new to this forum, or don't know the story about this amazing child, please read the many topics and updates in this forum)

I think the people saying dilution hit the nail on the head. It's been hammered into so many people that "washdowns" are obsolete, a thing of the past, but not in all cases. Also, I've seen people put down Speedy-Dry for oil and car fluids, and just leave it at the scene. That's just as bad as washing it down, because when rain comes it will end up somewhere. Speedy-Dry is supposed to be removed and properly disposed of, but I often wonder how many departments or wrecker operators actually sweep it up and take it with them for proper disposal?

Too bad they came out with this AFTER I got my BlackBerry!! This was exactly what I was looking for! But, in retrospect, it's nice to have the Blackberry because it has more advanced features plus internet access. http://getpeek.com/index.htm

That's a step in the right direction, but: What exactly defines the roster being at capacity? Does that mean every front line piece is properly (fully) staffed, 24/7, or just that they filled all their budgeted positions?
