  1. OK, so a member of my CIU did his homework, and looked through the Journal News and News 12 Archives, and came up with this. These are all verifiable statements: Yonkers ended mutual aid agreements with Mount Vernon and Eastchester in 1998- -News 12 Westchester -Journal News The last time Yonkers went to a fire scene in Mount Vernon was December 24th, 2004. -EMTBravo CIU Personal note: It's my opinion that Yonkers is taking the correct sction and taking a stand against MVFD's abuse, however JFLYNN wanted facts so it is facts I gave him.
  2. FULL STORY: http://www.lohud.com/article/20081118/NEWS02/811180417 Best wishes to Police Officer Paul Cavallo for a speedy recovery!!!
  3. What's that saying? A photo says a 1000 words. No doubt about him as a firefighter, it's just how you represent yourself especially as an officer you have to stay neutral and PC nowadays. The community is going to read that article, but no one is going to see that photo or know that he wakes up in the middle of the night on his own time to help people....they are just going to judge him based on a stupid email foward that means nothing. The only thing I'm curious about, and the JN was vague about, was the whole thing with the Village vehicle.
  4. Oh, you don't have to convince me about CAFS! I LOVE it, and think it's one of the best firefighting tools around right now. Down here, it's practically becoming a standard.
  5. Members, I want to continue to keep this forum the "go to" place for emergency services news in NYC's Northern suburbs. There's a lot of news that goes on in the area that passes by this forum. A lot of it is significant, can be learned from, or people may be interested in. I'm not just talking about the gossip, or rumors. I'm talking about bids that get requested or awarded, a new Chief appointed, a 30 year member retiring, etc. Many people have bias against this forum for whatever reasons, and things don't get posted. If you have a tip or an item worth mentioning, you can anonymously email me at tips@emtbravo.net. ALL EMAILS WILL BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL AND SOURCES ANONYMOUS. I will then investigate the tip using my many sources, or have one of my trusted sources investigate it. I will also take other actions to make sure it is credible information. If it turns out to be true, I will post it on this forum. Again, If you have a tip or an item worth mentioning, you can anonymously email me at tips@emtbravo.net. ALL EMAILS WILL BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL AND SOURCES ANONYMOUS. Thanks for your anticpated help in this new program! -Seth G.
  6. You don't see too many Darley apparatus delivered around here. The blue pump panel is also very interesting. Not being familiar with Amenia, do they have any industrial hazards?
  7. Not every department has a situation as serious as Mount Vernon's. I know it seems like the problems are endless and will never be resolved, but what do you propose as a solution. I feel as frusterated as you, and like you, have numerous friends in MVFD who I don't want to see get hurt. I know there are several members of MVFD who want their voices heard because most of the issues that go on in that department they try to hide. Looking back at some of my posts regarding MVFD information in the past year, it's absolutely ridiculous the stuff that goes on, and there being no end in sight. Also, the Journal News has picked up a couple of stories from postings on this forum. Maybe there is no public outrage from Mount Vernon's citizens because a majority rent and don't pay taxes, and are used to recieving poor services. Maybe Mount Vernon FD needs a stronger, more vocal union, or help from the IAFF National. I don't kknow what the fix is.
  8. #1. First of all, I have my facts straight, and have mentioned in numerous other posts about Yonkers making themselves and their resources available anywhere, INCLUDING this post. I was vague in my post, and should have made it clearer, and appreciate you adding the detail. It is still complicated and as you detailed, Yonkers will not automatically come into MV right away like New Rochelle. For instance, the multiple alarm fire on Lincoln Ave a few years back....Yonkers FD pulled out because the fire was at shift change and MVFD was sending it's off duty manpower home instead of holding them over. #2. As far as people getting their facts straight, that's one of the good things about this forum....it gives departments the chance to get the correct information out, and resolve rumors or incorrect information. People may talk about things on this forum, but they also talk about it at what many of you refer to as "the kitchen table". BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THIS FORUM IS FOR! Are half the people who love FDNY and discuss them all "from around here"? When an incident occurs in a fire department halfway across the country, do we not discuss it here or is it not covered in a magazine? Most of us are not idiots...we're aware that EVERY department will come help Mount Vernon if lives and property are in true danger, however, I think moves are being made because Mount Vernon needs to call M/A for a room and contents fire. This forum has shed light on a lot of the issues, and all the "scoops" I've gotten about Mount Vernon have turned out to be TRUE. And please also note, I said unconfirmed. Mount Vernon needs more staffing, newer equipment, and clean, safe firehouses. Maybe some departments are emulating Yonkers and finally stepping up to the plate to try and force this change....
  9. How many Truck companies does Mount Vernon have, and what is the staffing? (frontline minimum) As far as apparatus, they have 4 trucks- the 1998 Seagrave 100' RM, the 197? Mack/Baker Aerialscope, the 1988 E-One 95' RM Tower, and the 200? Seagrave Aerialscope. From what I understand, there's currently only one of these trucks in service right now? In a city with such dense population, many of whom live in overcrowded wood framed dwellings, some of which are hard to throw a ground ladder at, you'd think reliable truck company apparatus and staffing would be important. Is there even talk of purchasing a new truck?
  10. Thanks for the info.....I know the Mount Vernon mechanic is WAY overworked , and has no staff or budget....maybe these repairs would get turned around faster if they had as many mechanics for the fire apparatus as they do the garbage trucks..... Kudos to the MVFD Mechanic for working his butt off for trying to keep the fleet safe, functioning, and in service!!!
  11. New Rochelle doesn't play the political nonsense game. It is about firefighter safety first and foremost. Let's not forget how many times Engine 22 and Ladder 12 have been first due to Mount Vernon literally.......
  12. I'm a little belated on the "New Delivery" shot. Waterbury, CT Engine 2 2007 Pierce Arrow XT Obviously, it's not clean due to a New England winter, plus the fact the crew had been at a working fire all night........
  13. At the request of the agency, and terms of taking the photos, I am not going to release any details. The cause of the fire is under investigation with the manufacturer involved.
  14. And to finish up with the photos for now....the graphic on the door. All photos were taken by me. Again, the chasis is a 2008 Pierce Velocity, body is a Pierce PUC Top Mount Pump Panel.
  15. A side shot with stairs retracted. The crosslays can be increased, this model is configured with a side by side crosslays and a sealed transverse backboard and "A-frame" ladder compartment.
  16. The Pierce PSS seat. NFPA 2009 Compliant. Wider then previous models. "No hands" SCBA lock- just sit in the seat and it will lock your SCBA in- go to get out and it will release. It also has a larger, longer red seatbelt, as well as an indicator to tell the driver and officer if that seat is filled and if that person is wearing their seatbelt.
  17. The very erogonomically designed drivers seat of the PUC....everything is within comfortale reach of the driver. The seat is also super comfortable, being wider and more padded then competitors models I have seen. The AC is also FREEZING and easy to control. Also, the "Command Zone" screen gives you a whole bunch of data about the truck. But one of the neat things you can spec is camera on the right side, camera to the rear, and camera to the rear cab all linked to this monitor.
  18. The officers side of the PUC. I didn't get a photo (of the officers seat), but the officer's position has a ton of space, almost a whole desk, with plenty of space for a laptop, maps, radios, etc.
  19. With the PUC, you have pump and roll capabilities since the pump is PTO. This one came equipped with a front-remote controlled nozzle that can flow water or foam from the drivers seat. Great for grass and car fires. Also great when you have to move the apparatus, you don't have to disengage the pump, move, rengage, etc...
  20. Rear officers side... Note the safer "pool ladder" that comes down ALL the way to the ground when unstowed to access the top hosebed, which has compartments as well as a walkway to make packing hose easier.
  21. And here is the operators control panel.....
  22. The pump panel. The stairs fold into a compartment in which you then close the doors. However, there is a variety of ways to spec the stairs as well as the operator position height.
  23. Is it just me, or has E-Bay been hit by the recession? I've put numerous items up, and relisted at deep discounts, and I'm not getting any bids. Usually, these type of items end up in "bidding wars", with me getting a very fare price. Is anyone else experiencing this?
  24. I think it's interesting to point out that Fairview FD, which once ran an all-Pierce front line fleet, now runs an all-KME frontline fleet with the recent delivery of the new Engine 176.
