  1. If someone could get photos for me, I would REALLY appreciate it......I don't think I will be back up anytime soon. FULL STORY: http://www.lohud.com/article/20081124/NEWS05/811240374
  2. The EMTBravo.net Central Intelligence team is working on a credible lead out of MVFD, however unconfirmed at this time (yes, another story!) New Rochelle is no longer is first due for mutual aid to Mount Vernon. On the flip side, Mount Vernon is no longer first due mutual aid into New Rochelle. Also, Yonkers will not come into Mount Vernon, that is a long standing situation, unless they are absolutely needs and there are lives at risk. The next multiple alarm in Mount Vernon should be interesting. I hope no one gets hurt.
  3. I just wanted to wish RES20CUE a happy 38th birthday!! Ed is the Chief of the Montrose/Hudson Valley VA FD's, former Chief of Somers FD, and is currently serving in Afghanistan.
  4. Date: 11-24-08 Time: 1230hrs Location: New Rochelle High School Frequency: Units Operating: E23, 30-A-2, NRPD, NRPD CIU Description Of Incident: Fight between students w/ knife involved Writer: x635
  5. Interesting article out of my local paper. Has your department seen these types of incidents, and if so, how do you handle them? FULL STORY: http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news.../1124bulbs.html
  6. Members, I did a little coding this morning, and created a new optional feature. If you have a Facebook page, and want to link to it from hereL 1. Go to you "My Controls" section (link on top right of screen) 2. Scroll down to the "Personal Profile" field 3. Click "Edit Profile Information" 4. Scroll down to "Your Facebook Page Link" 5. Enter Link To Your Facebook Page (cut and paste link from your browser) 6. Go to your profile, and check that the link works Also, if you have a Facebook page, it will be noted via a little Facebook icon in the member information portion on the left of each individual post. Please report any bugs to me if found. Additionally, if you need help using this new feature, please post on this thread or contact me via email at seth@emtbravo.com -Seth G.
  7. There's some awesome new devices coming on the market that will really impact some of our fire scene and apparatus photography. Some cameras are coming equipped with them, and other devices you can buy to add on to your camera. These are GPS devices that lets you "geo-tag" your photos. It records EXACTLY where, when, and what time you took the photo. There's a wide range of creative things you can do with this. For instance, you can make a map on Google, and when you upload your photos, you can have a map of fire scene's you've shot. Or, if you travel like myself to photograph apparatus, you can make an "online trail" for people to follow. Here's one of the devices and the description: http://www.cameratown.com/news/news.cfm/hurl/id%7C3758 Has anyone used this? I'm saving up for one of these!
  8. Thanks Bill. As always, excellent photos! What will be the disposition of this rig?
  9. I like it! Thanks for posting the photos! Is this replacing an apparatus, or is this first for the department? (Didn't see an old one on the site)
  10. On a newer truck I'm working, we have a Whelen siren. Instead of it saying wail, yelp, and hyperyelp like all the other Whelen sirens I've sen, it justs says "T1", "T2", and "T3" Does anyone know what the reasoning behind this change was? I know this is trivial, I was just curious.
  11. Ah, thanks for the info.
  12. I'm telling my opinion, and asking for others.
  13. Yes. New Rochelle, Eastchester, Greenville, and Fairview residents end up footing the bill for most major fires in Mount Vernon. Not only do they pay financially, but they lose resources out of their community, possibly endangering that community, it's residents, and property. Mutual aid is there for "the big one" or unusual circumstances, not for your everyday "bread and butter" fire. The only good thing is if these units go to the scene, it's good experience, especially for newer firefighters who may not see fire for years in their first due. This is one of the reasons I support regionalization, but I'm not going to get into that now.
  14. Thoughts and prayers are with Lt. Ryan, FDNY, his family and friends during the tragic time. RIP.
  15. Wow, that is some significant damage that Chris Sadowoski from the NY Post photographed (at the link above). Thoughts and prayers are with the FDNY and their families during this difficult weekend...
  16. The GPS is for Geo-Tagging your photos, not for navigational purposes. I think it will be around $199 when it is released later this month.
  17. Just what I was thinking! The EMTBravo CIU Team broke the story- just like several other stories picked up by the media!! I just hope this time it results in some sort of resolution and is not just brushed off.... Keep those CIU tips coming!
  18. With all the cardiac-related firefighter deaths, should we be including a stress test (walking, running on treadmill attached to heart monitor)? Also, should a full set of bloodwork be done, and, preventive screening for cancers? I know a lot of departments that do physicals just because they are required, and use some shady firms. But I personally feel we should take this oppurtunity to make sure we're 100% healthy. However, I don't see many departments, especially career, picking this up due to financial reasons.
  19. (Info and photo from FSP Books and Videos) Looks like a really cool book! http://www.fire-police-ems.com/books/be0050.shtml
  20. OK, I'm pretty experienced on the web, and keep a blog. I'm not interested in the MySpace thing, but the Facebook thing has me curious. What exactly is Facebook, and would it be beneficial for me? I'm almost 30...isn't it a thing only for college aged kids? I hope someone will enlighten me...
  21. Tonight at 10PM EST on the Discovery Channel (and repeating at 2AM): http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/prototype-this...otype-this.html Will also repeat this weekend and on the Science Channel. Sound interesting, and I'm looking foward to watching!!
  22. ROLL CALL! If you're a member of this website and you're from another country outside of the USA, please post here where you're from.
  23. I'm not interested in keeping in touch with former classmates...I already do that via other methods...it seems like that's what Facebook is primarily for.
  24. Austin, TX FD is in the process of disposing of some spare Pierce 105' RM aerials (aerials built by Smeal). I hear you may be able to get a good deal. With a little work, mainly enclosing the cab, refurbishing the interior, and some bodywork (paint) this truck still has life left in her and would be a god temporary fix for MVFD. I don't know about the drivetrain though, but it has been functioning as an active spare just fine from what I hear. BTW, what's the update on the current lader situation?
  25. demps121, I apologize, I was only quoting published sources stating that Eastchester had ended M/A agreement with Yonkers in 1998. JFLYNN, I don't have the time or energy of going back and forth with you. There really is no point in it, and I think we all now have learned and understand YFD's mutual aid policy, which has cleared up many misconceptions. For the record, my personal opinion is that Yonkers FD is an EXCELLENT department that will respond anywhere, anytime to help anyone, and I never said anything different. I'm going to leave it at that, and we'll watch and see what happens in the upcoming "fire season". Also, please try and treat your fellow members with a little more respect. Nobody is attacking anyone, we all have an opinion, and we all want to learn. Now that we have the Yonkers situation cleared up, let's get back on track here.
