  1. How was Harrisburg this year? Anybody go? Anything new or exciting?
  2. Any local apparatus displayed at the show? What were your opinions of the Ferrara MVP over the Pierce PUC? I haven't had the chance to see the MVP in person yet, but have heard Ferrara designed it with the flaws of the PUC in mind....don't know how true that which brings me to ask you the question....
  3. Thanks for the shots! I like the seated turntable position for the aerial operator, and the pump panel placement on the engine. And I LOVE the shots showing the reach of the aerial with the building in the background! GREAT shot!
  4. Plano, Texas is a suburban city of Dallas, TX. They are know for being quite progressive. I believe that firefighters should be physically fit, but if they're unfit to perform their duties, they should NOT be fired if they try and comply with the standards. HOWEVER, I think all new firefighters hired should have to maintain certain physical fitness standards throughout their career. Here in Texas, they take firefighter health very seriously, and many other cities have strict physical fitness standards for all aspects of emergency services, not to mention the rest of the city workforce. New initiatives are always being rolled out to promote firefighter health and safety. Heck, some even some dispatch centers and EMS stations have full gyms. 5. South Salem is losing Tater Dodge, which has been a Dodge dealer since 1914, according to a press release by Chrysler today. I always thought it was an awesome place, even though a VERY low volume dealership, it has history and heritage. Reminder of times past. Sad.
  6. Bump for tommorow.....anyone got directions for Chuck via his post above?

  12. I love my new hometown. Today, I read my local papers website, and find out that we're geting a new fire apparatus museum 5 minutes down the road from my house! I am psyched! FULL STORY: http://impactnews.com/round-rock-pflugervi...e-engine-museum

  14. They have 20 millions law enforcement and medical dramas out there. Plus the fire service has "Rescue Me". So, why not a paramedic DRAMA? People aren't going to tune in to see us going to frequent flyers, ALS transports, and all the other things that are routine about our job. You've got to get people to watch the show, and you're not going to see anything similar to "Paramedics" that used to be on TLC years back anytime soon. I hope this does well, because it will increase EMS's relatively dormant profile in the public's eyes compared to FD and PD. And, if it does well, we may possibly see other networks trying out series based on EMS, and maybe be the launch of a better series. Watching the re-runs, "Third Watch" was excellent. They had a lot of unrealistic scenarios, but did a good job of presenting the story, in my opinion.
  15. This has been officially picked up by NBC for the Fall season, and will be entitled "Trauma". Here's the trailer: http://www.nbc.com/trauma

  19. Many people who live outside the NYC Metro area aren't familiar with some of the unique terminolgy used by the FDNY. Although I reconize that MANY diehard "fans" know it, I thought this would be a useful thread for members to add FDNY lingo, the meaning of the term, and possibly the history behind it. So, post away! It will be pinned to the top for reference.
  20. What apparatus does West Nyack FD have at the Palisade Mall substation off Route 59? I know RPS has a station there as well, but only Medic 23(?) responds from there.
  21. I wasn't familiar with this test until I moved down here, and was told that they used it for Civil Service dispatcher exams. Looking through the software, I was impressed. From what I've heard, it's widely used down here. I don't think any agency up north uses this yet for Civil Service exams? This is way better, in my opinion, then a simple typing test- if used properly. It's cool to see this kind of software on the market, and I wonder if one day it will become more widespread. http://www.criticall911.com/
  22. This was posted on the Austin Police Association's website: http://www.austinpolice.com/pdfs/fire-thanks.pdf Thought it was pretty cool. City Of Austin, TX
  23. I know I was working Empress in Rockland when they were building the mall. Medic 5 was across the street, I believe they had a station in a motel room. At the time, the new firehouse was one of the conditions of building of the mall. I had heard many rumors about that station from the begining, and am still wondering, which is why I came here. Did they have a second station on the property of the mall BEFORE the mall? I know before the mall was built, it was just swampy marshland and little league fields, with the exception of the frontage of Route 59, which had a Burger King and some other small businesses. Surely someone on here must know the details...
  24. Gross, but well done! Was this firefighter on duty? FULL STORY: http://cms.firehouse.com/content/article/a...mp;sectionId=46
