I wonder why they aren't introducing a diesel engine option for it though?

Whatever it is it's freaking me out. My ears are tuned to listen to Yonkers on the scanner with the YFD dispatcher's voices. It's a trip to hear "Engine 304 to 60 Control".

I saw on a post on Facebook that FDNY units responded to a substation fire in Hillburn, Rockland County yesterday. It looked like a couple of Engines, Tower Ladder, Battalion, and dry chem unit. Does anyone know of the protocol behind this? Is it like a task force with Con Ed? What resources do they send?

As far as the age itself goes, it shouldn't be an issue. I had guys in my academy class that were in their late 30's and early 40's that were far outpacing us youngins physically and mentally. There is something to be said for life experience and maturity. As far as the reasoning behind this goes, as I read the article, it seems like it is to include more minorities who didn't have a chance to find out about the exam earlier in life. That, in my opinion, is a department public education problem, not an age related problem. Seems like everyone I know on the job knew they wanted to be a firefighter, and knew someone that knew how to point them in the right direction, or someone to follow. I'm turning 37 in August though, it's sad all my civil service Firefighter and Cop job possibilities are drying up because of my age. I was hoping to make a comeback!

Used to be Mohegan Engine 256 or Engine 257. Our own Howard Peiffer , former LMFD and former Palm Coast Chief has been with it since it was born and they moved to Florida together lol. Not only did it get saved from the scrap heap, but here's the best part.....it's coming back to Lake Mohegan! I love this style of Ward LaFrance, growing up Hartsdale and Fairview they had them and saw them all the time, and love the look of the cab. I'm so happy it's getting saved plus going back to it's original home. I wish I could have bought Hartsdale's. These rigs are also a part of New York state history, as they were built in Elmira, NY. Here it was at the Yorktown Parade the other night:

I believe some of them are 4x4. From my understanding, they will ultimately be assigned to Yonkers, New Rochelle, White Plains, Mount Vernon, and ALS Critical Care Transports. For the ALS CC jobs, they are ideal because there is plenty of room for the ECMO machine and 4 person team that goes along with it.

Here's an article that was sent to me on the new technology: http://www.fireapparatusmagazine.com/articles/company-news/2016/06/fdny-ambulances-stealth-power.html I'm surprised there isn't a solar panel component to it.
