Every truck has it's issues, and I think Seagrave is designed for NYC. With a fleet so large, you're going to have issues, no matter what. I believe Seagrave is one of the most durable trucks out there.

That should be interesting....with all the trouble Chrysler's experiencing and the temporary closing of plants this summer, I'd imagine it would be hard to get a Dodge chasis....I know there's been a big switch to Dodge chasis down here as well for the same reasons, however I've noticed a dwindling inventory on the Dodge truck dealers lots.

A couple of weeks ago, I met someone who was at the top of the list for hiring for a Police department, and had actually been promised a spot in the academy. However, the economy changed all that, and his academy date (and official hiring date) keeps getting pushed back. He's been on the list after serving several years in the military. The problem? He is 32 years old.....the cutoff for hiring is 32. If he turns 33 before the next academy starts......he is out of luck on attempting to become a LEO. Which leads me to wondering......do you think that that "cutoff age" should be adjusted due to the economy? Is it fair to have a civil service list, which in NY amongst other places, is really useless for the foreseable future? Should they hold the current lists until a certain amount of people are hired, and then open a new exam?

In 1996, they decided they wanted to do EMS. You here them crying about closing of Engine companies, and no offense to any FDNY firefighters as you guys have a tough job too, but EMS runs their butts off everyday with the bare minimum of resources, lousy pay and schedule, and a high volume of calls. They make a direct impact daily on peoples lives. I wonder how people would react if FDNY contracted to private companies to provide engines and trucks because of a higher volume of fires? My comments don't relfect on the hospital-based EMS systems in the City,as I strongly believe that places like St Vincents, NY Pres, and OLM to name a few greatly add or added to the city's EMS for decades. But, I realize hospitals are cutting costs, and, in admins eyes, they are an easy thing to chop from a budget. Again, I say it, EMS needs to be differentiated from non emergency TRANSPORT units, which, in most instances, should be and can be handled by a 2 man ambulette with a stretcher and O2.

Tragic....but there's a reason for everything, and I know he was needed for a higher purposes. My condolences to his family and friends during this horrible and vague time. Seth G.

Don't forget, this truck doesn't go on an everyday calls-mainly large scale USAR incidents. When it responds, I believe it sets up in a central staging area....it doesn't have to always be right at the incident....and YFD has smaller support vehicles that can ferry equipment....if need be. This vehicle is primarily about being able to get the right amount of the right equipment to the scene, or in USAR circumstances, sceneS. (The trailer can also be left at the scene and be self sufficient) Also, manuverability is one of the reasons why the hitch is so far back from the cab. I've seen it go out of and come in from it's current home, and it is probaly one of the most difficult places to get into and out of.....but YFD is making modifications to the building to make it easier. And the guys who drive it make it seem like it's as easy to drive as a sports car. I give them a ton of credit, and, when the economy gets better, I think you'll see a new home for this rig. BTW, awesome photos guys! I can't wait until I can get some photos of the newer YFD rigs......but I don't think I'll be back to NY anytime before these rigs are retired, lol!!!!

Thanks, fyrlt17 for sharing the photos! I know this has been a long time in the making, and it's awesome to finally see it. Also well deserved and much needed to a longtime budget-concious, city controlled fleet. I really like that ALF ladder spec....and it looks awesome, too. Great work by the members of WPFD who worked on making this truck a reality! Just one question...what station is L-32 out of, and when can we expect to see it on the streets of WP's?

As with everything BHFD does, top notch!!!

What do you guys think of this? I know this stretch of road is VERY dangerous. Also, the local media is now reporting that the woman, after doing numerous interviews that are now proved lies by the dashcam, has now refused comment and her lawyer has dropped the case after the dashcam release. (Details posted in the Incident Alert-National section) My sister was at the Holocaust Musuem today in DC, and she witnessed this whole shooting, saw the man (James W. von Brunn) walk in with the gun, the guard engage and get shot, etc. Thank god there are people looking over her, and that she is alright, albeit a bit shaken up, due to the actions of the guards at the musuem. The reason I am posting this is because the guard, who was killed when he engaged the shooter, is a hero. The shooter, who is 88 and a well-known white supremacist full of hate, and has a long history of spreading his hatred, was stopped because of this guards heroic actions. Unfortunetly, the shooter is still alive in critical condition and George Washington University Medical Center. The shooter is an American terrorist, in my opinion. It's scary that we have people like him in this country still. Hits home now. To Guard Stephen T. Johns, thank you and may you rest in peace. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_holocaust_museum_shooting
