I know you're doing a great job not only keeping his memory alive, John, but to prevent another tragedy from occuring. Thoughts and prayers on such a tragic loss...

Very cool to see that the bridge will reopen!!

Yonkers uses HME/Smeals exclusively for their rearmount fleet.

Most places down here are having fireworks, however some have had to change locations or delay due to the drought conditions. As for the Yonkers BID, you've got to put in money to make money....the downtown's never going to improve if they don't build that stadium and hold other events to bring people there......

I attended this event on Saturday, but unfortunetly, didn't get any photos because of the pouring rain. However, it seemed like it was an awesome event, and a great way to interface with the public. I really think that an event of this type should be held in the Hudson Valley. http://www.starflightrescue.com/index.php/...20Heroes%202009

Doesn't suprise me. I'm sure photographers make easy targets. Just got to be smart and don't leave your gear visible, and if a confrontation does occur, give up your stuff- it ain't worth your life. Also, I don't know the way it works in NY....but keep all your serial numbers on file.....here in Texas, Pawn Shops are required to report serial numbers, and it is entered into TCIC/NCIC so when it is found, it most likely will be returned to yoy. I've seen a lot of proprerty recovered this way.

The price tag was pretty high from what I understand, but this vehicle will see everyday use. I believe it will be serve multiple purposes, including bridge repair and inspection, highway sign maintainence, light repair, etc etc....in very difficult to reach locations...... From the Bronto site: http://www.bronto.fi/sivu.aspx?taso=1&id=126 Here's another shot:

The City Of Houston,TX uses Ferrara's engines and aerials, and they are one of the largest and busiest FD's in the country. From what I've heard, they are fairly happy with them. However, I don't think they are anything like a Seagrave, and we'll see how they are holding up in a few years.... However, let's not forget the punishing, unforgiving enviroment that FDNY's apparatus operates in. That plays a large factor in how the apparatus holds up. The stength of a Seagrave has proven itself in NYC a few times in recent memory.....I was very impressed with the way the cab held up during the several serious MVA's involving apparatus. The aerialscope boom is the best and strongest in the industry, and FDNY has used it for decades. People complain about every brand of apparatus. There's a lot of factors that go into getting and keeping an apparatus in service. A lot of it is beyond Seagrave's fault....it could be a demanding spec, a poorly trained fleet technician, overwhelmed fleet technicians, poor upkeep, poor PM schedule, department fleet protocols, the engine, pump, or transmission manufacturer, parts availabilty, operator errors and abuse, harsh city streets and weather conditions, etc.... You can see some of the differences in the new Aerialscope II here: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=32384

I've heard rumors from other forums that FDNY's newest ambulance bid may be different in several ways from previous bids. This includes chasis and manufacturer. Anybody that can elaborate and confirm or deny? I know they've been with Horton for a long time, including the recent Haz/Tac and Rescue Medic ambulances. Before that, they aqquired ambulances from H&H which were Wheeled Coaches. I would figure they would stay with Horton. Although I do remember Wheeled Coach caused a stir a few years back about only Horton getting the contract, and the NY Time did a pretty informative article about it.

Has anyone taken Metro North to the new Yankee Stadium yet? Just wondering what the experience was like, since it'll be a while before I get to ride MNRR for fun again.....

I remembered another photo that was posted on EMTBravo.com a while back. Is this situation any different? (I'm not being sarcastic, I am actually asking a question)

Every truck has it's issues, and I think Seagrave is designed for NYC. With a fleet so large, you're going to have issues, no matter what. I believe Seagrave is one of the most durable trucks out there.
