I can't agree with you more. I get very frusterated trying to explain to Texans they're not eating pizza. That is probaly one of the very few things I miss about New York.

When WCPD aviation is not staffed, are the pilots and crew available on call in a reasonable timeframe? Also, I'm not really saying that WCPD should run a full-out medevac, just be available if need presents. I'm also saying that if Westchester were to determine a need for a medical helicopter, WCPD should be the one to run the program. And how come we can justify and fund a program like Starflight here in Austin, but not in Westchester??? http://www.starflightrescue.com/ We have a police helicopter too, but they just deal with crime issues. Lives should never be based on business decisions, but sadly, that's the way it is.

RIP. It is honorable, even in death, he has saved several lives by the donation of his organs. FULL ARTICLE: http://www.officer.com/web/online/Top-News...ve/1$47623

That's what I figured, but maybe if EMS, Fire, and PD banded together and made a strong case for it.........wiat, it's Westchester- nevermind.

I believe it still has a sticker on the rear quarter panels stating how the department aqquired it. Austin PD is very involved in the community. This vehicle is used at all sorts of the numerous connunity events that happen every week. This was at Austin's Emergency Communications centers "Take Your Child To Work Day" festivities the other day,so that the dispatchers kids could check it out. When they put it into service, it was one of the top stories on most of the local news stations-all positive though. It is also made very known to the drug dealers (and potential drug dealers) how this was aqquired.

Although I can see the advantages of responding from bays on the Post Rd, with the terrain of the property and basement, I THINK preventing drive thru bays, and the busy intersections that are on Post Road, I figure the bays will remain in back, which would make it easier and safer for the rigs to deal with the Post Rd. traffic.

Yorktown has put into service a Dive/Water Rescue Unit. Right now is assigned U-84 but they are looking to have it designated Rescue 55. Yorktown's Dive /Water team now covers all the way to the river. All work was done by members of the YHFD Dive team. Kudos to Yorktown on yet another economical and innovative aqquisition! (Photos were NOT taken by me, and are reposted with permission)

LOL! Glad no one was seriously injured though.

Boards sure do get around. Especially at a commercial service that runs EMS when you know you'll be using them, and you know you can't get any from your own supply, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I always thought there should be some sort of backboard purchasing/sharing cooperative to solve this issue.

Wow! That looks like a tricky job! Thanks for sharing the photo! Is it in the new code that pipe/duct chases need to be sprinklered? Also, is there any type of new technology to stop or slow duct fires? I know most hood systems have extinguishing systems required, but I'm suprised that requirment doesn't extend to the ductwork, especially in large buildings. Also, could CO pose an issue to occupants in the building if this fire burned unoticed for a while?

Tragic. I am sure he is RIP watching over his fellow GPD officers.
