  2. Yes, but if it doesn't, they're taking a gamble. NYPD loses what, about 40 officers a day to retirements, etc....and how long does it take to recruit, hire, train, and cut loose a new officer? NYC has had a DRASTIC drop in crime......if crime starts going up again, the city economy could be affected in other ways. I understand the budgetary reasoning, but NYPD should be as staffed as possible.

  4. Does anyone know who bought Hartsdale former Engine 171 (1976 Ward LaFrance/1986 Ranger Refurb) when it was put up for sale last year after the new Engine 170 was delivered???? I really wish I had the money and space to buy it. I really loved that Engine and those style of Ward LaFrance's.
  5. Why no one could post this I don't know, but I saw the old 171 sitting behind Station 2 as of this past weekend. Don't know what the disposition will be.
  6. Good to see a sprinkler system work, but I'm sad. I always wanted to photograph this truck-but it's always tucked away......does anyone know where it came from before Greenburgh? FULL ARTICLE: http://www.lohud.com/article/20090728/NEWS02/907280392

  8. As described in the Incident Alert for this incidnet.
  9. This is idiotic. Does anyone put 2 and 2 together, and get 4? The more cops that were on the street allowed for a lot more proactive police work, which resulted in the crime rate dropping. It's like in EMS, when someone tells you they stopped taking their high blood pressures meds because "they don't have high blood pressure anymore". They drop staffing levels, crime is going to increase again.
  10. Happy Birthday to the twins seperated at birth, Jim Arena (Past Chief, Katonah-JIMMY Fund CEO) and Martin McGannon (Current and Past Yorktown Heights Chief)!!!
  11. Isn't NYPD a few thousand officers short though? Even shorter then pre-9/11???
  12. I think it shoud be mentionedI don't think that the volunteers on the front line want the service to be like this......but they are stretched thin and it's usually the select few members that keep a corps going. Unfortunely, the powers that govern over them are more into politics and egos then making sure there is adequate EMS coverage is out there. Hire a consulting firm, and do a study on how to improve EMS in Westchester using both career and volunteer elements. Then, implement the study. ALL of EMS in Westchester needs to band together and get bhind something like this.

  15. There are always a ton of stars in the sky down here, and it's never really cloudy that often. I'm going to try to look for it tonight...too bad my wife is away, because she's good at pointing things out to me. Thanks for the heads up!
  16. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to WCPD Officer Nuehs, whos cruiser was struck while on the shoulder by an errant driver at 0630hrs. I hope my information is correct that the injuries were minor. WCPD has been taking an increasing amount of hits over the past few years. The parkways they patrol are very dangerous and outdated. I give these guys a lot of credit, trying to do traffic enforcement and responding to traffic incidents on these tiny obsolete roadways where people do triple the speed meant for these roads.
  17. People not only in Croton, but in many Westchester communities, EXPECT low crime and a high level of service, and these departments give that to them. These officers work holidays, nights, and weekends to keep these people safe, and sometimes don't get to go home. In reality, the money they are making really isn't that much, given the cost of living in Westchester. The figures sound like a lot, but if you have a wife (or husband), two kids, a mortgage, taxes, etc.....it's a comfortable salary but definetly no where near over the top.
  18. How was Baltimore this year? Did I miss anything exciting? What new apparatus was there? I know it's a huge buff-fest, and I do have some issues with some of the things there......but I always enjoyed the training and the atmosphere the most. I also enjoyed seeing some of the new deliveries and new equipment out there.
  19. Absolutely horrific. I was in Yorktown at the time, and had friends coming up the TSP that had literally passed this incident a few minutes before it happened. I feel for the families, but I also feel for the Mount Pleasant area emergency services personel on scene. There's some bad calls people see during they're lifetime, but this is one of the worst incidents imaginable. It will take considerable strength, and they will never overcome this incident. As time passes, I hope fellow members of these agencies will be vigilant for signs of PTSD. Thoughts and prayers are with everyone.
  20. Special thanks to dadbo46 for the photos and info!! This is the pilot bus of Bee Line's new 200 series, Bus #205. It is on of 95 ordered, all 40' L/F NABI hybrids. 5 are currently in production. There are options for 12 and 30 footers in the near future. This bus will be on the street of Westchester towards the end of June. First, it must be DOTed, inspected, serviced and mechanics and drivers must get trained. A few exterior decals are missing. jjpinto will have the glamour shot soon. NABI is a bus manufacturer located in Aniston, Alabama. Thanks again, dadbo46!!
