Are there any fireboats on the Hudson in Westchester that are strong enough to feed a 5 inch supply line to units on land?????
-
I don't know if this has been mentioned on here or not: Hughsonville, NY Fire Department Fire/Rescue Boat http://svitrucks.com/apparatusdetails.asp?apparatusid=214

PEPES PIZZA will open at the old Ricky's Clam House on Central Park Ave. in Yonkers......

Yes, but the question is....how do you differentiate that? And what is a Quint? If all these Quints in Westchester are Quints, are we truly using them effectively with our numbering system?
-
Excellent topic. Just something very simplre that came to mine, don't we teach CHILDREN to stay low and crawl? So then why doesn't the very same apply to us? Maybe we need to go to our own fire prevention classes.
-
You are the one who taught me close to ten years ago about a "task force" concept that would have worked excellent in Westchester. However, with the numbering being the way it is, it would be very complicated.
-
If I wanted a unit that could hook to a hydrant and maintain it's own master stream, or provide handlines to crews on upper levels, then I want a quint. Or maybe as the incident progresses, I may need that elevated master stream, but for now I just need it for handlines. Quints here aren't an excuse for manpower, crews are trained to be able to work both an engine or truck-and they see a lot of fire. Typically, a Quint runs with an Engine in the same house, and the pump is typically for the elevated master stream. Also, there are a lot of dwellings where a ladder may not be needed, and the quint can then function as an engine, sparing resources. It also doesn't clutter the scene with apparatus that's not needed.

Let's pretend I'm and IC. I'm not sure if I need an aerial or Engine yet....hmmm....what can I do.....call for a Quint. There's absolutely nothing to convince me that this shouldn't be a valid designation in Westchetser. There are a lot of discrepencies in Westchesters system. The numbering system should somehow go by battailion, then department, station, and/or apparauts. There's no rhyme or reason, and nothing is enforced. However, the EMS side of things seems to have a simple solution. Agency-Unit Type-Number

Why can't Archville and Briarcliff share a firehouse? I'm not going to even delve into the whole consolidation thing, but the sharing of the facility would save money.

I recently read an article (figures I can't find it online) that told of an officer who was tased during traffic stop. The vest caught one of the prongs, yet the other made it's way through the gap. He was moementarily incapciated. Has anyone heard of something like this, and can a vest fully protect against a taser?

And Tommy's Truck 2:

The man responsible for "EmpressEMS.com" being on the first ambulance, as well as being half of the team that put the "Tac" in "Tac" (with the other half being EMT F. Califano)

And Truck 6, the Dodge Charger....

Empress lot around the time I started with them in 1997: (Sorry for the quality, this is a scanned photo) Photo by me:

Good question by xchief2x.....I also have another.....how far is this firehouse from the Archville firehouse?

I'm suprised this wasn't mentioned (or I missed it)....several of the members posting on this thread taught me to ALWAYS sweep in front of you with either the heavy end of the ax or halligan when crawling. Besides jumping out of the truck, there's a reason why the more seasoned vetrans all have knee injuries!!! I know in probie school they made us crawl so much that some guys went out to buy kneepads. I know if anyone stood up in our class, they would get knocked down. Also, the role of the truck company is crucial in this....the sooner the building gets opened up, the cooler it gets and the easier it is to see and work. While the Engine company is starting to make entry, the truck company shoudl be starting to cut that hole. And that doesn't always mean playing with the big fancy aerial, especially in residential structures, throw a ground ladder and get up to that roof!! Meanwhile, the apparatus operator should be focusing on placing the aerial. No truck company? Engines have ladders too, and axes. You still crawl, however conditions are probaly better. And, from experience, compression injuries are no fun! I had the same happen to me, fell directly on my butt. Often what happens is the discs in your back pop out and pop back in, causing swelling of the spinal cord. This can lead to immediate paralysysis, that may or may not go away very easily, and can leave you with several herniated discs and pinched nerves for the rest of your life..

I believe we will be seeing it here in Texas soon. You can already text crime tips in, but not to 911. Also, sending photos to 911 is the major benefit of this technology in my eyes.

Tommy loved that Ram Charger before he got his Tahoe. I have a pic somehwere of it....... I thought this Expedition was brand new....thanks for the info....weird how the Supervisors always seems to get the hand me downs, usually from Yorktown. With Yorktown due for a new car later this year, I'm sure the current Yorktown flycar will become a backup Yonkers supervisor car/backup Yorktown car. Also, how's the Pelham Tahoe doing? Is that due for replacement soon?

I noticed in the Empress drill thread that Empress has takend delivery of at least two Ford E-350/Wheeled Coach Type III's. I assume these are to replace the aging 50 series? Does anyone know how many were delivered, or better yet, have photos? Also, someone had mentioned a new supervisor's vehicle?

Thanks to all for the warm birthday wishes...much appreciated :-) Time sure does fly.
