I just don't understand how much needed hospitals keep closing in Westchester. The health care system in NY/US and NY's hospital laws suck. Hospitals are viewed as a business nowadays, not as a NECCESARY part of the community. And I don't know if Empress-Mount Vernon Ambulance 1 (the ONLY ALS ambulance dedicated to the city) works in the same way as it did when I worked there, but the reason we could handle the call volume was because of a quick turnaround at MV ER. If ambulances have to go to Sound Shore, that will result in higher turnaround times and an increase in demand for EMS. http://www.lohud.com/article/20090820/NEWS02/908200503

And I believe the law of ignorace fails to reflect on some of the need for some of the things mentioned above. First, a police car is visible and under more scrutiny. Sometimes, they speed because they're understaffed and need to get to the next call, or going to back up or go into the area of another offficer in case he needs assistance, yet can't respond Code 3. Using a cell phone sometimes to communicate with dispatch because the radio doesn't work, or making callback to the complainant. And, I've never seen a cop who doesn't wear a seatbelt. I've seen way more EMT's and FF's not wear seatbelts.

There's also the simplest solution. Engines equipped to pump foam, and foam banks. I also think that there should be at least ONE backup foam trailer, in case the first one malfunctions or needs backup.

I just don't understand why County Police communications and County Fire/EMS operations can't share a single infastructure.

Has anyone seen or used this product? Seems to be pretty convienent? http://www.esiequipment.com/tool_fuel.htm

If you're operating at a working fire, and have two lines stretched and operating (LSO) from one engine, at one hydrant, are you gambling? Is having two engines, connected to two different water sources, with one line each a better route to go? In case of failure with one engine, hydrant or anything inbetween, you have that other engine immediately as a backup.

I also forgot to point out the remote control deck gun, which can be controlled at the pump panel....(instead of having to climb up to to set it)

These systems also take up more room on the chasis. Look carefully when designing new apparatus, and make sure warning placards are placed near these systems. They can cause serious burns in areas normally considered "safe" on Eninges. And for those in drier areas, be careful, the radiant heat can cause brush fires......

What are the flow capacities of this boat?

But that begs the question.....does every engine need to drop LDH on every fire? Also, I believe Yonkers, given their water supply issues, uses 2 engines fore every fire. They also drop two 3" lines to supply one engine. They also don't clutter the scene with apparatus, with uneeded apparatus positioned out of the way. We do have booster tanks, but that should always be a last resort method, IMHO. I agree with the notion that putting the fire out solves every issue, but we have these engines for a reason. Not only do I feel it's a safety redundancy, I feel it gives good practice. And if two seperate engines aren't stretching lines, can one at least be on standby to hook up and stretch if needed? This also gives good practice in real time situations.
-
Even if you're hooking up on the same main, I think that two lines should be stretched from two different engines. What if one engine suffers a catastrpic mechnaical or pump failure? Or a supply line gets cut off? That way, you really are stretching a BACKUP line, not just a second line....

Although it's not the Crown Vic, Dodge Charger, or Chevrolet Impala (does Chevy still offer the Impala police package?), many agencies use vehicles that aren't police package. I see you point, and agree it's not under the hood a police package, but may be suited well for some uses. From what I hear, Fod is watching to see how this does and possibly release a police package version.

These diesel trains run through many communities...so it could happen anywhere. Hopefully, someone from Fairfield FD can give us some insight on how this was handled. FULL ARTICLE:http://www.connpost.com/ci_13015924?IADID=...ww.connpost.com

I know NYS Civil Service mandates a test every 4 years (I think), how likely is YPD to hire a class in the next few years?

I know this was discussed a long time ago one here, but it's been in effect quite a while now and I still wonder about it. I know this decision was made during the Pat Kelly days, and also had something to do with the CAD system. This discussion is not about what a quint is or does, or staffing, but rather the designation. What is the rationale for "Quint" not being a valid designation in Westchester? If a Quint is a Quint then why not call it a quint? What brought this to be fresh in my mind is the use of Quints down here. A Quint is called a Quint, but is almost always housed with an engine and runs usually as a ladder company. M/A requests often bring a Quint, because of the versatility on scene. A lot of it has to do with water supply and elevated master streams, but I digress... What would be a reason NOT to call a Quint a Quint? We call Tower Ladders Tower Ladders, Engine Engines, Rescues Rescues, etc etc.

LOL, our server handles all the emtbravo email addresses. So when that's down, so is all our email. Working on a backup solution to get ahold of me.
