  1. Interesting articles. I've seen this firsthand, and it's sad. There's not much you can really do in some cases but keep responding. http://pix11.com/2016/08/12/firefighters-respond-to-one-home-1100-times-in-three-years/

  3. Sorry I missed you! I got this message when I got home. This guys collection is AWESOME! He has such a diverse and enormous collection. I can't even decide what was my favorite. There were so many of my favorites there! My only disappointment was that my friend from this forum "GreatPlains588" said he was coming and then never showed up. He would have LOVED it. Makes me sad. Also makes me sad that Engine 626 wasn't there. Does anyone have any info on how to join Fairchester HH?
  4. This Saturday! Heard the FDNY Super Pumper has arrived.
  5. Cool rig. I knew the Tappan Zee Bridge had fire apparatus at one time, but I never knew New York State Thruway Authority had 23 of these engines. Can anyone elaborate as to how these were staffed and deployed? http://lynchburg.craigslist.org/cto/5702343823.html
  6. I don't see what "scanner buffs" have to do with this. ARTICLE: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/08/nyregion/threats-over-police-radios-have-officers-and-scanner-buffs-on-the-case.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share&_r=0

  9. Thank you guys!
  10. I think people want to know when the canvass letters go out because it's hope, and gives people reason to check the mail....especially when the postal service loses and is slow to deliver mail. I once almost lost out on a job because I didn't know canvass letters went out until I read it on here....I knew to be expecting one, but not when. Surely enough, the post office delivered it...two weeks after the deadline. Also, CPAT's a pretty intense test, and people want the maximum time to get into shape for it. Ideally, everyone should be ready for it at anytime, but knowing it's coming is a good time to sharpen up, especially with a test that has a very delicate margin between pass and fail, and people want to ensure they are at their best so they don't miss out on a career of a lifetime. People are curious about where lists are in the process, and the numerous message boards around the internet prove that.

  12. Fellow Members, You've probably noticed the "Incident Alert Live" box is once again at the top of the forum index. This was a popular feature before we upgraded the forums several months back, and it went on hiatus until a new solution was found. The Shoutbox be used for putting out incidents in real time, even minor incidents. For example, someone can post in the box "Ardsley responding to a car fire on the New York State Thruway" or to inquire about incidents, such as "What does Somers have?". Very similar to the updates many of you make on various fire wires. Please help to make this newly reestablished feature as successful as before. It's as simple as adding a sentence. An example of what it looks like. It can be found on the TOP OF THE MAIN PAGE of the forum index. (NOTE:If you don't like it, click on "My Prefs" on the box and you can choose not to display it) -Seth G.
  13. I hope many of you will help out with this new feature. It's as simple as adding a sentence.
  14. Just saw this ad on Facebook for a "Tailboard Rider" T-Shirt. I'm trying to figure out if this description is a joke or a real thing. If it is real, it's scary that attitudes like this still exist. You know something is dangerous yet do it anyway? Really? It's gotta be a joke. This was the description: http://www.blackhelmetapparel.com/product.php?id=The+Tailboard+Rider+Firefighter+T-Shirt&src=xmasjuly16fb

  21. Maybe one of our Yonkers guys could elaborate more, but I'm told through a credible source that Yonkers FD is in the planning stages for their new Rescue 1, and there is debate between sticking with a tandem axle, or going back to a single axle.
