  1. I'd love to have it as a collectors piece if only I had the room-great find and thanks for the photos Dan! Ossining guys....what's the story behind this engine? When was it retired? Even if it's not saved as an antique, if it's not being actively used, I am sure there is some poor rural department somewhere in the US that would LOVE to have an engine like this...
  2. Why? Because the Chief basically went back to the City with the firefighters concerns, and hashed this out?

  4. Cool! Thanks for the info! ASVAC certainly has come a long way since my grandfather started it decades ago. Where will the new ambulance be housed? Will it be on the same Ford E-series chasis? Thanks again for the info!
  5. Also, I forget.....one of the best resources is to get medical control on the line and let them speak with the patient!
  6. Great article. Good reminder to always document, document, document on RMA's and get witnesses if possible, and have a solid RMA and QA/QI process in your department.
  7. I assume one of the marine units made rescues, unless the occupants swam to land.
  8. I'd like to make an update. In the past, it's been the practice to discipline both the apparatus operator and officer when the apparatus is involved in a collision. It is protocol to work as a team to get the apparatus to the scene safely. The Fire Chief has ameneded her protocol to basically say that the officer has the opppurtunity to use his/her discretion to authorize the apparatus operator to go above the speed limit, etc in any instance where it is deemed neccesary.
  9. No, really, it's the board game. Seems llike they make a themed Monopoly for everything nowadays..... http://www.thefirestore.com/store/product....ghters_edition/
  10. Happy birthday to Chris Ritchie AKA DOC22!!!
  11. So, what is the long-term "vision" for FDNY communications? Is the FDNY firefighters and officers unions vocal about this issue? Has it been publicized in the media?
  12. I agree with this. The tillerman is at the mercy of the driver. Having a few friends on the West coast that operate tillers, driving a tiller succesfully consists of teamwork and communication between the driver and tillerman (who obviously does not have control to brake the vehicle). Being a tillerman is an art, but no tillerman could make a turn like that at that speed. Think of an 18 wheeler trying to do the same thing.
  13. Is this lady joking? She obviously has no clue. The long lost art of SALVAGE is what Fire Patrol specializes in, and that's what saves the money. They aren't "risking their lives to save a computer" as their primary mission, it is to PREVENT further damage and property loss from fire and disaster. Someone needs to schedule this lady for a ride along.
  14. Happy birthday Hap!

  19. Congrats Archville, I just have one question and I seriously don't mean anything by this.........where was the parade route? Does Archville has a town center or any other area suitable for a parade that's not the heavily trafficed Route 9? LOL on the most antennas too.
  20. Interesting. Ford Edge Police Package. http://www.warnockfleet.com/images/stories...cs-FordEdge.pdf
  21. VERY impressive! Thanks for the photos and specs!
  22. On an unrelated note, I loved that rescue, I was working for 60 when it was donated there. What ever happened to it? I always liked the sticker on the dashboard too, lol. There have been a few accidents in the past year in which brought attention to the issue from the City's risk managment deparment. All this is is a policy that, I believe, the lawyers forced the Chief to institute. Also, the apparatus operator has tremendous responsibility. And people here in Austin are the WORST drivers of any city I've ever driven in. Due to station placement, higher speed limits in more open areas, and staffing, their response times and mitigation times are very impressive to start with.
