Good find ! They aqquired that ladder second hand from Glenville (?) in Greenwich. Although in the past Banksville may not have needed a ladder, I can see a use for at least a 100' quint now, considering all the mansions and set backs from the roadway. Their closest M/A ladder would have to come all the way up North street from Greenwich. Bedford,Pound Ridge, and Armonk all don't have ladders. I could see a Sutphen mid mount like Somers or Millwood just got working well for Banksville....... Also, are they still partially funded by Greenwich FD- maybe they will be kicking in some funds?

It's been mentioned recently that New Rochelle had a catastrophic ladder failure, and I seem to remember FDNY as well. What were the causes of those events? Is it operator error? Could age be a factor?

The gentleman's name is Andy Leider. He has a warehouse full of apparatus he hopes to turn into a museum soon. The Catskill Firecats recently held a muster there. You might be able to get his contact info via the Catskill Firecats website: http://www.catskillfire-cats.com/ Or AndyC3Jeeper may have it..... Some of his collection can be viewed here: http://www.fdnytrucks.com/files/html/other...0Collection.htm

AWESOME photos, and an awesome inside look. I liked the show when they first started out, and then it became too "dramatic", especially after moving to TLC. Making a bike for "Jon And Kate Plus 8" and Paul Jr. opening a fashion botique shows that they are trying to market the show to the TLC audience, not the faithful audience when they were on the Discovery channel. They're also becoming way too commmercial, and I miss Vinny being on the show. When they first announced construction on this facility, it was said that the Discovery Channel helped with funding, and there would be viewing areas to watch the bikes being built. Don't know if that still holds true. I'm curious about the future of the show.

I think it's a great program, as long as there is a mentorship component to go with it while the students are out on calls.

I know there was a hostage involved, so termination wouldn't be involved. Seems like there was no choice but to pursue her. But at what point do you weigh other factors, such as public safety? Do you back off for a bit and let aviation track? Is there a NJSP protocol to attempt to block someone in? I know spike strips never work, except for the officer right behind the vehicle. A 3 hour chase is not unusual for California, but for NJ I don't think I've heard of one this long in NJ. *NOT MONDAY MORNING QB'ING-JUST TRYING TO START SOME DISCUSSION* FULL ARTICLE: http://www.lohud.com/article/20090906/NEWS...urnpike%20chase

I'm just curious...how much compartment space will be lost to the new 2010 engine emission systems? Also, will apparatus compartmentation have to be redesigned to deal with the radiant heat generated by the exhaust regenration system?
-
Yes, but it's a step in the right direction, hopefully. With the economy the way it is and Mount Vernon politics, I don't see a very bright future anytime soon. Until then band aids will continue to be applied. This particular band aid will at least ensure that they have decent and safe apparatus, and hopefully take a load off of the one man shop which will also help with minimize downtime.

Nice shots....seems like TL-11 got in there nicely with a master stream, while leaving plenty of room for L-12's 110' if need be. Judging on some photos of fires I've seen in New Rochelle and Yonkers recently, it seems like truckwork is making a strong comeback in those communities....aerial and multiple ground ladders deployed while leaving the scene open for other aerials to get in there if need be, especially on congested streets. Kind of like what you would see Boston doing. Very good examples set by these departments.

I was just talking about this the other day. The "forgotten victims". It's DISGUSTING the way the City and NYS is treating them. And now we're starting to see all kinds of cancer come about, and this is only the begining. Let's also not forget the two firefighters killed in a building under demolition at the 9/11 site....I consider that related as well.

This is the first I've heard of it. It seems to have a lot of potential. Any other agencies using this? FULL ARTICLE: http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=...&id=6964290

Interesting concept. http://emsresponder.com/article/article.js...p;siteSection=1 From "New Orleans EMS Remains Homeless"

I would concur that the ladder is roughly a late 80's Pierce....possibly a 1989. Also, it's nice to see MVFD aqquiring used apparatus that has enclosed cabs...I'm sure there will be several FF's happier this winter.

The truck is from northern NJ somewhere and is currently at the MVFD shops, and the engines are from either Sayerville NJ or Sayville LI. Anyone have any idea where these trucks may be from? Even though they aren't new, used volunteer trucks and engines from LI and NJ are usually fully loaded, newer, and in great condition and is a budget smart decision by Mount Vernon FD if so. Sometimes, in a cash strapped department like Mount Vernon, you get more for your money by buying used trucks and engines as described above. I hope they are better then the last used obsolete aqqusitions Mount Vernon FD got from Tarrytown and West Harrison.

But they didn't, and hopefully in the future, they do. The FD union is way stronger and more noticed then the EMS union, and by FDNY absorbing them in 1996 did great damage to what could have become a great EMS system, and being reconized in it's own entity, like Austin and Boston EMS, would have allowed greater publicity, and better funding (grants and billing that they don't have to share). EMS has also only been around since the 70's, and the fire service much longer then that. A firefighter is a lot more in the public eye then EMS. And EMS workers do such a good job making do with what they have, that the problems often go unoticed. A routine call such as a CHF's saved by CPAP isn't going to grab the media's eye everyday, however a fire is dramatic and will. Firefighters absolutely should do first response, and doing so has saved hundreds of lives. I don't think anyone would dispute that it pumps up their call volume, but if a few lives are saved then it's worth it. However, we need to find that "balance" that still allows FD's to do their job and respond to the EMS calls where they are needed, and not every stubbed toe. I'm sure EMS's wouldn't be happy if they had to repond to every automatic alarm, dumpster fire, etc either.
