  1. I see the next several years as being difficult to get on in Westchester. The economy is causing a lot of people to defer retirment for the time being. Additionally, everyone is going to want a civil service job in these times so more people will be taking the tests. Competion will be tough, but try as hard as you can, and don't limit yourself to Westchester if you truly want to be a firefighter.
  2. Getting back on track....is Everett going to still be with the department in another capacity?
  3. AWESOME,AWESOME photos! I am SO envious of you! Is this the first time this event has been held? If not, I am kicking myself for not knowing about it in previous years.....
  4. BUMP-next weekend, register ASAP if you're qualified and want to take this class.... http://www.stiloskis.com/training.html
  5. I finally got my O'Hare flatbed limited edition diecast, produced by First Gear. It is AWESOME! MORE PHOTOS AT: http://www.x635photos.com/thumbnails-367.html For those that don't know, O'Hare Towing Service is featured in the hit show, "Wrecked: Life In The Crash Lane" Thursday nights on SPEED TV.It follows a large, highly trained and equipment towing and recovery operation in the Chicagoland area. Check out some webisodes and more on the show at the following link: http://www.speedtv.com/programs/wrecked
  6. And now, a wrecker is open for pre-ordering, estimated Decemeber 2009 delivery: http://www.oharewear.com/o39hare-towing-di...on-wreck39.html BTW, the flatbed is sold-out.
  7. I've eaten crab from one of the "Deadliest Catch" boats, a resturant in Austin serves them, and these men perform heroic work, the crab is amazingigly delicious!!!!!
  8. Just when I thought Mount Vernon was taking a step in the right direction by purchasing some excellent condition used apparatus, this happens. It really is unreal that these types of situations keep happening over and over. What is going through some of these peoples heads? PLEASE don't lose sight of the fact that MVFD has MANY,MANY great firefighters that have to put up with this day in and day out. I've worked and learned with many of them, and they are what make Mount Vernon a great department. Don't let the antics of the CITY GOVERNMENT and the games they play overshadow that. I don't see this ever getting better. Even if the feds or state were to take over, which is the only remedy that I can think of. I personally don't think anything can fix Mount Vernon anymore.
  9. Mack still produces the chasis. It is now called the "Terapro". Yonkers just took delivery of a Collapse Rescue on a Mack Terapro. http://www.mackterrapro.com/ It is primarily marketed to the refuse industry, but is used in many other industries as well.
  10. He has an awesome collection...almost rivals the Hall of Flame in Phoenix, AZ. It would be great to see a Hudson Valley fire museum, it would be great for Orange County tourism and I'm sure that he could get some grants and other funding to build a museum. He is someone I am very envoious of, and would like to meet one day.
  11. This sounds awesome! Sounds like a great photo op!
  12. What does Andy Leider do that he's able to aqquire and house all these apparatus? Is this done alone, or is this a joint effort of many people?
  13. AWESOME job by this alert mailman!!! He happens to be my mother's mailman, so I am especially thankful for his actions. However, one side of me is scared......the Journal News and Greenburgh PD made postal workers in this area vunerable and aware to any other suspects that may be out there. http://www.lohud.com/article/20090924/NEWS...me%20burglaries
  14. From the Village Of Ardsley Newsletter, August 2009 ASVAC currently operates a 200? Ford/Lifeline. They have only one ambulance. In recent years, their call load has doubled to 600 calls a year (for a just over 1 square mile district). I know they replace their ambulance every 10 years, and just built a new headquarters that only has one bay, so my question is- will this ambulance replace the current "914"/50-B-1 or will ASVAC recieve this new one and keep the current one as a second? Thanks to anyone who can answer this question for me!
  15. WOW! ASVAC's new ambulance is up on Lifeline's site, not a very good shot but you can see an awesome new paint scheme, very unique and kind of fits in with APD's. http://www.lifelineambulance.com/recent/AUG09/Aug09.html
  16. Here's the OLD logo on Quint 18, a 2008 Pierce Velocity 100' RM
  17. I've been out of the loop, and I know many things have changed. Does MVFD still operate Rescue 1 as a full time company? If so, how is it staffed? Also, if it is a 24/7 company, what do they run as a spare since the old rescue was given away?
  18. What burned in Greenville today? ( I know where, but what?)
  19. I'm just wondering where TL-15 was for this incident? I mean, an aerialscope is perfect for thsi tyoe of scenario, and it operated at the fire the day before. Was it OOS?
  20. Correct me if I am wrong, but they are required in the new NFPA reccomendations?
  21. How time flies....I marched in Elmsford's 75th Anniversary Parade as an explorer with Ardsley. LOL I remember thinking how far off their 100th Anniversary Parade was going to be. http://www.lohud.com/article/20090919/NEWS...s%20100%20years
  22. This question came from a post in another thread: Details anyone?
  23. This is what it comes down to. White Plains is adding another level of protection for their citizens, which should be embraced, and not opposed. It sounds to me like White Plains has done this to start the PHTLS process as soon as possible. Also, the Paramedic's and EMT's of Transcare aren't afforded the same benefits or equipment that are given to civil service employees if something were to happen to them while operating in life threatening conditions. My only issue is that White Plains should be providing EMS, and not contracting to a for-profit entity. Transcare has many excellent EMT's and Paramedics, and if the Public Safety department can pull together a rescue medic program, then they sure can start an EMS agency as well. As long as they are a contracted provided for EMS, they are a city contractor/vendor. They are hired to provide EMS. I'm sure there would have to be major changes to the contract with White Plains, and I'm sure Transcare would want and need more money to provide rescue medics. If Transcare wants in, let them start showing iniative, like Empress EMS's Spec Ops division. Empress pays for, out of their own pocket, special operations training and equipment for it's employees with multiple components, and works with Chief Fitzpatrick to interface with the Yonkers FD Special Operations division. Empress has invested a lot into training and equipment, and has really developed an outstanding program for a commercial provider to do.....for free. And, there's more to come with Empress EMS's SOD. This is something Empress employees came up with and developed for several years now, and not something that happened overnight. Transcare could do the same thing for White Plains what Empress does for Yonkers.
  24. These departments mutual aid each other on a routine basis. Especially the Greenburgh area departments. Just another example for consolidation, along with yesterday's fire. Also, no Hartsdale TL-15? All ladders were straight sticks?
  25. I wonder what chasis these ladders will be on?? Since Ferrara builds on Spartans, HME's, and their own line of chasis Also is going to add a large load to the service department of the dealership- who is the dealer, BTW? Ferrara direct?
