The headline, in itself, says a ton:

Unless they've changed recently, Gowans-Knight's quality and craftsmanship for the value is worth waiting for IMO. Plus, they are right in northwestern Connecticut, so getting manufacturer direct service is a big plus. Is Patterson or Pound Ridge in a situation where there current rescues aren't serving their purpose? Of course they need replacement for various reasons, but couldn't the current trucks handle it for a few more months? Don't get me wrong, SVI, 4 Guys, etc builds an excellent rescue, as do many other manufacturers. I know East-West spec'd Pound Ridge's Gowans Knight engines in the past, and now they are spec'ing two SVI rescues for two different departments. And a rescue is a lot easier and quicker to build than an engine. I know when Hartsdale was looking for an engine, Gowans Knight was favored at one point. But they missed sales meetings that were scheduled and they didn't bid because they had too much work and too few employees at the time. Hartsdale ultimately went with 4-Guys, which also produces incredible custom craftsmanship. Gowans Knight is currently building an Engine and Rescue for the City Of Waterbury, maybe that has something to do with it? Also, anyone from Pound Ridge to elaborate on the size and where it will be housed?

Actually, it's based on the Pontiac G8. Much of the same tooling from the former Pontiac line will be used.

This applies to all agencies, fire, PD, EMS, Communications, etc, career or volunteer. Does your agency have a staffing plan in place in case we do get hit by a pandemic flu? I'm not talking about responding to calls, I'm talking about the ability to respond. How would your department be impacted if several members got the swine flu? Additionally, how would your department be affected if members had to take time off or couldn't respond because they had to take care of sick family? Do any agencies have plans in place to deal with these issues?

Donations can be made in the memory of Yonkers Firefighter Patrick Joyce in care of: Yonkers Fire Department FF Patrick Joyce Fund 5-7 New School St. Yonkers, NY 10701. The family is also stating that memorial donations also be made to the Ronald McDonald House. I am still trying to get more information and information for which Ronald Mcdonald House and where those donations can be sent.
-
Westchester Medical Center also has a Ronald Mcdonald House at the Maria Ferari Childrens Hospital. They are in need of all donations they can get. The 5 rooms they had were destroyed by a water leak 2 years ago and have not been replaced yet. They are constructing a 12 bedroom house on the property that resembles the children's hospital and are still in need of money. I know many children and parents locally that would benefit from this, and it would help keep FF Joyce's legacy alive in Westchester. Would it be respectful to send donations in honor of FF Joyce to Westchester's Ronald Mcdonald House instead of Manhattan? I am only asking this because many do not know that we even have a Ronald Mcdonald House in Westchester, but if the family and/or Yonkers FD wishes the donations go to Manhattan, then that's where I will send mine. Respectfully submitted. -Seth G.

For as long as I can remember, there's always been drama in Mohegan. There's a long standing rift between career and volunteers. Honestly, both "sides" of the department have excellent, experienced, dedicated and well trained responders. Despite the rift, Mohegan has always done a great job protecting it's citizens and being progressive with public education. Both sides need to embrace the fact that there going to both be around for a while, and come up with a comprehensive plan to address working together safely for the future. The volunteers should be supporting a fair contract for the careeer firefighters, one that would keep the career firefighters safe and compensated appropriately. In turn, the career firefighters should be looking for ways to better work with the volunteers to address it's staffing needs. Idealistically, every engine in Mohegan would be fully staffed including a Paramedic on each engine, but that is not going to happen anytime soon. I know this is basically a "turf war", but it really needs to come to an end. I know that career role in Mohegan orignated by giving jobs to vetrans during the depression era to take the trucks to calls, but times have changed since then. Both sides need to stop finding ways to work apart, and start finding ways to work together.

Has anyone seen this in their areas, and what kind of hazards could this pose? http://therealdeal.com/miami/articles/fore...-enos-fast-wrap

Regardless of existing research and cost, this guy is going to have a life, communicate with his family, with the amenties in prison, while the Joyce's are without Patrick and his daughters without a father. This kind of thing wouldn't be tolerated here in Texas: http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/stat/deathrow.htm I don't care what the cost is, this guy should get the worst possible punishment. I wish one of the gang members who have been involved in the multiple shootings in Yonkers found this guy first and performed some community service. THAT would have been the most cost effective solution.

Great work by YPD in catching this guy! I hope when this comes to trial, a good turnout can be mustered to convince the jury send this guy to jail for life- or I don't know if you have it or don't in NY- capitol murder and give him the death sentence. I hope the DA puts every possible charge on this guy. It will never heal wounds or fix anything though-the damage is already done, but this guy needs to be off the streets forever. Thoughts and prayers are with everyone, YFD, YPD, the Empress members who tried to save him, etc....... And thanks to all who didn't jump to conclusions and make assumptions about the way we operate this forum-and respected our request at the time. We have reasons for the things we do, as you can see, although members may not understand it, there is a lot that goes on "behind the scenes".

Other then the normal Bee-Line route that serves the current United property, what are the mass transportation propsals for this complex? That section of I-95 and I-287 are obsolete and congested enough. Is there going to be a rail link, BRT, or more frequent bus service to Rye and/or Port Chester train stations, both of which would need upgrading as well. I don't think either stations are walkable?

I appreciate that comment a lot. That's one of the main reasons this site is here. I had one week to promote this class, and hope the turnout was good, I know there was a somber mood. I tried to get the word out to as many people as possible. John is awesome to set up and sponsor this class, it is a lot of work and time on his part to not only set up the class, but get the trucks for the class, set them up, etc. I will be working with him to promote more training in the future, check Stiloskis.com for details when they become available. As a reminder to all, SCHOOL BUS CLASSS is Sunday, see link below for details: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=33722
