  1. The way things change in Mount Vernon, you never know.....but last I heard the Mack/Aerialscope is worn out and done.
  2. The Seagrave/Aerialscope will be assigned to Station 3
  3. Their primary vehicle is a 2004 E-One Cyclone II heavy rescue, with built in command post and robot stowage compartments. I've always tried to get photos of it, but never succeed. Maybe someone here has one they can post.
  4. According to my sources, when L-2 comes back from overhaul, it will be assigned to Station 1. The Pierce 105' from NJ will be going to Station 2, and Ladder 3's E-One TL will go into the spare pool. As far as the Sayerville engines, they will be replacing Engine 2 and Engine 5 the way it looks now. Special thanks to my sources for the info.
  5. From what I hear, this will be very well-spec'd. I know they've been working with East-West for a while developing a unique spec. I'm interested to see who will win the bid. Glad to see it's finally happening. Thanks again LFD171 for the heads up.
  6. The Ardsley Village board has approved this to go out to bid. Don't know the status of the bidding process. East-West assisted in writing the specs.
  7. I was just curious if the FDNY fleet maintainence wreckers are also available for technical rescue situations, if needed?? Also, I've seen the ones on FDNYTrucks.com- but how many heavy wreckers does FDNY operate, and are their any that aren't shown on that page? I'm actually suprised that FDNY doesn't have a rotator, it sure would be a good replacement for the Tac units. Very versatile for many types of rescues, as well as moving equipment.
  8. I've heard rumors that FDNY is looking at a rotating boom wrecker for replacement for it's TAC units.......time will tell. I know there are plenty of similar resources in NYC, it's just my opinion that even the smaller rotators, the 30 tons, would be an asset to the fleet, even if just used for fleet maintainence and available if need be for other situations.
  9. I know Ferrara partnered with an investment firm. I know working with stainless steel requires some different and stronger equipment and technique. Who knows with the price of metal these days?
  10. What a lot of people don’t realize is that 9/11 is continuing to kill. Many Police Officers, Firefighters, Paramedics, and other responders are being diagnosed at an alarming rate with cancer, lung disease, etc. That is in addition to the suicides. When people think of 9/11, they remember all those that were murdered, but this issue continues to plague those who are referred to as the “forgotten victims”. When people remember this coming 9-11, I’m afraid these victims will continue to be overlooked. Many young families have been devastated by losing a loved one to 9-11 years later, and there is more to come. Additionally, two firefighters died last year in a high rise fire in a building that was being demolished due to 9/11. Here is the technical study on multiple myeloma: http://www.nycpba.org/wtc/studies/joem-multiple-myeloma.pdf And here’s a media report: http://www.nycpba.org/wtc/media/nydn090813myeloma.html This is a cause I strongly believe in......I wish I had the funds to travel to this rally, but I hope I can at least muster up some people using this forum......
  11. I like the "pool ladder" up to the hosebed..I always love to see that spec'd, makes climbing up there so much easier and safer...
  12. You could say that about a lot of FDNY's specialty rigs. If used to replace a TAC unit, the boom could be used to put the boat in the water from a distance away. At a collaspe scene, it could be used to move debris. It could be used to move other equipment at emergency scenes, such as shoring. In a harbor rescue, it could be used for stablization or removal. And it could be used to stabilize trucks and larger vehicles at MVA's. I just feel it would be a good fit to replace the TAC units. PLUS......you'd have a heavy wrecker for fleet issues as well........
  13. I know Ladder 2 (1998 Seagrave Lo-Pro 100' RM) has had it's problems, but didn't that run out of HQ's? Is that going into the spare pool, or is it being reassigned?
  14. Should be interesting with the new aerials. I know Ferrara doesn't do stainless steel, and all their previous FDNY work (Hazmat, Collapse Rescue, Satellite) have been aluminum bodies....
  15. I'll believe it when I see it. http://www.lohud.com/article/20091018/NEWS...l-Field-stadium Wonder what other "firefighting equipment" will be purchased?
  16. Just got word they are looking to sell it right now. A new brush truck, possibly a B.R.A.T or Gowans Knight brush truck may be a possibilty in the next few years.
  17. I, too, would reccomend Fisch Internet Solutions. Not only do they do great work, but they help to support this site. Fisch Internet Solutios also keeps business local.

  19. Thanks for the info Chief! As discussed previously, this was exactly why this unit was aqquired. I knew it was going to get christened soon..... For photos and more info on this unit: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopi...=Yonkers+Tanker
  20. Seems like an awesome event, great to see some PD Explorer programs going strong!! Thanks for the photos and info!
  21. Wow. There were no bullets in the gun, and it had a metal plate preventing the hammer from triggering. Still, a situation that happened in the blink of an eye, and kudos to the officer for very quick judegement! He must be very shaken up. http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news...015roundup.html
  22. Apparently, Mount Vernon FD has a new Chief. More to follow.......
  23. With all the tax breaks that these developers get, it may be a while before the city sees any funds. It also remains to be seen whether these developments will bring people-and their money- to the City Of Yonkers. Yonkers already has probaly the best fire protection coverage and staffing in the area....these buildings will also be built to modern code.......and I'm sure that they will find a way to increase staffing when needed. I think the developer is paying for the new fire headquarters.....wish they would throw in land and funds for a fire training center and SOC center as well.......
  24. Sharp! I like the rear cabinet! Unique!
  25. I was in Westchester in July, and drove through Scarsdale enroute to New Rochelle- looked like the old VAC building was going to be a realtors office.
