  1. O'Hare Towing Truck 315. They took the body and boom portions from one of their older trucks, refurbished and remounted it onto a used Kenworth T-800 tractor that had its frame stretched, all work done in-house at O'Hare's Northlake facility. This is the truck that Dwight Lee usually drives on Season 2 of "Wrecked", and the build was featured in epsidode one of this past season.

  9. I recently took a week long "Survival Spanish" class for emergency services. Although I knew some spanish to get by in emergency situations, I forgot it all since I got hurt, since I wasn't using it. Learning basic conversational spanish again in that short time was HARD. I have a new appreciation on how hard it must be to learn the english language. We not only learned about the language, but about some important cultural differences as well. Many spanish speakers are afraid to speak english for a variety of reasons, from reasons because they are embarrased about their english or afraid they are going to say the wrong thing. Many want to learn english, but some can't even read to begin with (coming from third world countries). This is a great way to make the hispanic population afraid to call 911 to report a crime. You have to remember how corrupt police officers are in some of the nations that these people come from. Also, these immigrants are often victims of a whole bunch of crime because people know they won't report it. Here in Austin and surrounding cities, if you call to report a crime and are an illegal immigrant, you will not be reported to ICE. When I went to Ireland and Canada and Hawaii, there were some areas where signs weren't in english. But I adapted. I think it's ridiculous that REGULAR drivers are ticketed for not speaking english, but Dallas is a whole seperate world from Austin. But, a lot of these drivers ticketed were CDL drivers, and drove tractor trailers to-from Mexico. To drive a big rig here and have a CDL, I think you absoultely should have to speak english.

  11. As some of you may know, Pelham Manor TL-3 went back to Seagrave to be completely refurbed. Brand new Seagrave chassis and body with same 75' boom, completely refurbed and upgraded to the new Aerialscope II standards. The kicker is…..they figured out how to keep it on a single axle. It will be the first re-mount in the country on a single axle. Dealer-Excelsior Sales and Service, Mamaroneck, NY Special thanks go out to those who provided the info and photo to me!!! You guys rock! (PHOTO SOURCE:ANONYMOUS OR ZMASTR28)
  12. Looks like Ferrara has completed the construction of the new FDNY Collapse 3 and Collapse 5 on the Spartan chasis. http://www.ferrarafire.com/NewDeliveries/P...scues/3981.html They look really sharp!
  13. The word "envisions" perplexes me-wonder if this will really happen, especially in light of the current economy.... http://www.lohud.com/article/20091014/NEWS...owntown-project
  14. Did I miss something? http://www.crotononhudson-ny.gov/public_do...Res/021709/resc Mount Kisco's PL Custom was probaly in excellent shape (200?ish Ford E-450/PL Custom) that is probaly similar to Croton's PL, but I never got why Croton is so stingy when it comes to purchasing ambulances. I assume this is to replace the very well worn and overdue-for-replacement 1995 Ford F-350/Marque? Did this transaction go through, and if so, any photos?
  15. Just a reminder, this event is this Saturday.......

  20. What kind of metal does FDNY use for their apparatus bodies? Aluminum, galvanized, stainless steel?
  21. Does NYPD ESU still use galvanized for their REP bodies? And I assume that the ambulances are aluminum (I never really considered what type of sheet metal is standard for ambulances)
  22. E1E2TL3 thanks for sharing the info and specs with us......much appreciated.......this truck definetly turned out awesome, just like I suspected it would when I first heard about this. Just to confirm, this also was spec'd so it met the very limited weight and dimension requirments of the bay it is housed in? It's also interesting to note that this was all done at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a similar new Tower Ladder, giving PMFD a lot of bang for their buck. Truly awesome engineering and hard work on all ends that will definetly generate a lot of interest....this truck is the first of it's kind in this day and age...
  23. I've heard that Mount Vernon FD will be getting 2 engines and a ladder from departments in NJ? According to my tip, they possibly could come from Sayerville,NJ. They should be arriving in Mount Vernon next week. Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor?
  24. Big one still much cooler AND has a roto-ray! However this truck looks well suited for everyday use.........
