UPDATED: EMTBravo Staff (except myself) can now recieve reputation points. They have no control over or access to the reputation system. Only I do, for technical and adminsitrative reasons, which is why I'm excluding myself. Many of our staff participate in discussions and should be elegible to be reconized for great posts that they make in discussions independent of their staff duties just as members would. Again, any abuse of this system or patterned, targeted reps toward a staff member or any other member can be tracked if needed and abuse of this system will not be tolerated. Please, don't forget that great IA's and orignal photos can and should be reconized as well!

I hope no one gets hurt. Can a chasis take a "flex" like that and be repairable?? Anyone know what the damage was?

One of the main benefits is that this can move at higher speeds then traditional bulldozers, which makes it safer in wildfire conditions. The cab can be beefed up, and I'm sure it will be for military versions.

Besides the cuts to emergency services, there are tremendous cuts to the city's social, education and health services programs. I agree with Chris, all these things tied together will create a very serious downward spiral. It will create some serious, maybe even deadly conditions for thousands of people who are already on the brink.

Just the man that could use the tax breaks! [/sarcasm] I like Anderson Cooper, only after seeing some clips of him on "The Soup". However, I know this isn't possible with the current corporate greed, but great justice could have been done by making this into a museum that was dedicated to preserving the memory of the fire patrol, as well as all the property (and lives) that were saved in NYC during their time. I'm sure the 4.3 million the insurance industry got was just a drop in the bucket for them. Especially since it's on the National Register Of Historic Places.

I've never trained with or operated a rear mount TL before (except for Elmsford's Quint 2 in 1993), but I've seen many and been in the cabs of many.....doesn't the bucket obstruct visibilty somewhat? And, with some manufacturers, significantly? Also, I'd be worried about the clearance of the bucket overhanging in front when making tight turns or manuvers. Thanks to everyone for helping me refresh!

Very sad situation all around. But how do you really handle this or fault him? Sure, he could have driven with due regard, had his partner drive, or called for mutual aid and went in his own POV......but we don't know what went on in the heat of the moment.

Great shot!! Scarsdale still has that engine, right? Or at least I think it is the same engine plus some more warning lights..... http://www.x635photos.com/displayimage-44-7.html Last time I saw it, was at the Hartsdale 100th Anniversary Parade in 2004. Also, if SFD still has it, who maintains it?

I think this is a very cool idea!! http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2010/01/27/ott-ontario-paramedics-dogs.html

NOT ANYMORE. I just wanted to remind everyone that you can now rep other members only once per post per thread. MEANING: If they have three great posts in a thread, you can rep them three times, once for each post in that thread. You can also rep them in other threads that day as well, providing they make great posts. I've been monitoring and fine tuning this, and I see this system is working as members who are making some great posts are recieving good "reps" and ratings. I hope more members are aware of this system and will start using it to reconize great posts. Remember, see a good post, hit the green "+" button....you don't have to enter any comments if you don't want to, just hit send. The member can't see who repped them.

Thanks for the info! KME is sure getting a lot of contacts across the country! They definetly have come a long way in quality, and I'm sure OFD's will be another great delivery. The E-One tower should be awesome. The outriggers are perfect for the tight Ossining streets.

In another thread, it was mentioned about the cost of training with foam. There are some cheap training foams, made specifically for training, on the market nowadays. Also, some dishwashing and other sudsy soaps can be a good solution for training with simulated foam. These solutions also make for good wetting agents for firefighting use. Not to mention these agents often disperse quicker and are more enviromentally friendly then using actual foam. Out of curiousity, does any department use training-specific foam? Foam, in my experience, seems to be the one thing that gives pump operators the hardest time, and is often the cause of complaints about the apparatus or eductor foam system itself. IMO, there should be more training on foam, with emphasis on upkeep and maintainence of foam systems. Disclaimer: training foam shouldn't be used for training with live fire, only for foam application and system training.

I've known Chris Murray and his family for a long, long time and am very proud of him for his actions today! Chris is the son of Packy Murray, Deputy Chief in Fairview, his brothers are also in the fire service. All are members of this forum, and all were explorers when I was the post advisor in Ardsley FD. GREAT JOB CHRIS! From the Town Of Greenburgh Paul Feiner email list:

Looks like a great job and teamwork, guys!! I see HFD23 in action there!! Also, it's refreshing to see the the new Chief of Hartsdale FD and actually active and responding to incidents! Great shots Mike!

I am wondering why enclosing the pump panel into a compartment is not standard? Although I've seen it increasingly on newer apparatus, I'm wondering why I don't see it more. It protects the pump panel from the elements, especially in the cold weather. It keeps the road grime off the pump levers, pulls, switches, guages, etc. Here's an example:

They, along with some other FD's, are looking at it. I believe one or two are being demo'd now by either the US Forestry Service or Calfire- not like the latter has the money to buy them though! With all that rain they are having now, it's gonna be a heck of a brush fire season next year!! It will have to prove itself though before LACoFD buys it. I've also heard some municpalities and airports are looking at it for high speed snow removal.

How is it they find money to hire cops, and not firefighters? Is it because of grants? Or MVPD is even more shorthanded then MVFD? http://www.lohud.com/article/20100118/NEWS02/1180323/1018/18-new-cops-start-training-in-Mt.-Vernon

Is there a clause? Why would it limit the size of the FD? (Just curious- is it an antiquated charter?). Is that something that can be changed? So, if the funding for the grant runs out, does that mean these officers could be out of a job in three years? (given there aren't any vacancies, etc)
