  1. I've heard a lot of joking around on these forums about the new Car 2083. Well, it's used, but I found it sitting outside Specialty Warning Systems awaiting lights and lettering. (JOKE: THIS IS NOT THE NEW CAR 2083, THIS THREAD IS IN HUMOR)
  2. FROM: http://firefighterclosecalls.com/fullstory.php?103155
  3. This is actually one of the premier (and best) events for training....and also for the apparatus industry...it kicks off trade show season, so many manufacturers use this show to roll out new products. It's an important place for manufacturers to be seen. I think you may be thinking of Firehouse Expo, where floor space prices have skyrocketed.
  4. Found this very cool looking "next generation" bulldozer at the local John Deere construction equipment dealer. 2010 John Deere 764 High Speed Dozer More info: http://www.baumpub.com/heg/features_details.php?feature_id=648&page=2
  5. And from what I hear, they are not the only retailer considering pulling out. Ridge Hill will save Yonkers!! [/sarcasm] Maybe this will wake them up and stop betting on money that doesn't exist yet and come up with a real future master plan.....oh wait, that would make sense. And I love how they are specifically going after the Fire and Police unions and making them out to be the evil greedy bad guys who bankrupted the city..when they dont even make enough to live in Westchester comfortably!!!....disgraceful!
  6. Has Newburgh PD been affected by the economy? Maybe this will get them some federal funding for more officers or at least an FBI Task Force to come in for a little while.
  7. As mentioned, it is going back to the dealer for some mounting and finsihing touches. Once those are done, I'm sure compartment and equipment shots will be posted.
  8. Looks great!! Thanks for the photos!
  9. As usual, the March-April edition of Of Fire Apparatus Journal was awesome. Joe Pinto's much anticpated Westchester County Updates column and photos were excellent, I just wish they would give him more space! Photos of Yorktown's new Dive Rescue 55, Mount Vernon's s "new" ladder, and Pelham Manor's newly rechasised and refurbed Tower Ladder 2 were included. Also mentioned was Yonkers FD's new fireboat, which I hope to see in the fireboat column. It is a 27 foot Vigilant Boston Whaler with a remote control Akron nozzle on the bow, twin 250HP Mercury Verdados motors, 800 GPM Darley fire pump system, FLIR radar, GPS, Chartplotter, and a diver rescue door. I didn't even realize, or forgot, they Also, there was an excellent profile with photos-the Maxim snorkel even made the front cover top shot-of Chesire, CT FD. The article was very informatiive and the photos great. They have a very well thought out department with very well cared for progressive almost all Pierce fleet. I just wish I could see the Chevron striping on the back of the cab of their newest engine. This author and photographer of this article was Matthew Palmer, and I hope to see more profiles from around CT in the future-maybe even a CT column in the "Updates" section. I also hope he finds a god home for Truck 1 when it is retired! (Maybe he will drive it to Texas for me?) And, as always, there were tons of beautiful in color photos from some of the top apparatus photographers in the world. This magazine is a "labor of love" run by FDNY Battalion Chief John Calderone. A sad thing I noticed, Marilyn from Marylin and Gil's Fire shop in Catskilll, NY have stopped advertising. I had heard on another forum she had a stroke, but I haven't heard further. She was always a friendly person to deal with at the many firematic events where she was one of the original "buff stores", carrying an impressive inventory of fire service diecast and books. You can find Fire Apparatus Journal usually at certain Borders Books and select newstands nationwide, or order a copy from http://www.fire-police-ems.com Or, better yet you can subscribe online at http://www.fireapparatusjournal.com
  10. Andy, Sometimes the full service Borders Bookstores if you have one carries FAJ in their magazine section, usually with the special interest transportaion magazines like Airlines if there is one near you. Usually $4.25 plus tax. You can also special order it and if you pick it up at the store no fee for shipping. And you can request through the manager that they carry it. Yeah, that's the one-lol.
  11. I agree, time will tell. But I know how MLSS has this planned out, and it's impressive. They are really making an investment into this contract that goes far beyond simply providing ambulances. Also, people should want to support LOCAL companies, who, in turn, invest in that same community that they serve. Transcare's money goes to Brooklyn, MLSS's goes into the Orange County and surrounding economies. MLSS also has tons of other support and educational services that Transcare doesn't currently provide in Dutchess. Transcare is a good company with great employees...dont get me wrong...but I feel MLSS can do a better job on this contract and will prove so.
  12. You will see a greater presence of MLSS in Dutchess County. They have this contract very well thought out.
  13. No, your views are just very jaded and pescimistic about EVERYTHING. I. You seem to see the negative in everything in absolute terms, yet never seem to see or speak of the positive. I know you have some experience while attending school there, it just dissapoints me that someone so relatively young has so much hate and negativity for so many things in EMS except the agencies he's invovled in. I'm sure there are many providers who live and work in Dutchess for years who have different views. I hope you advance your career to Paramedic as you seem passionate about the field, however I hope to read some posts from you that are positive, and I hope one day you are able to identify the good in EMS even if it doesn't work the way you want it to work.I hope to see optimism and care, and hope that you don't continue to use this forum to express your negative views, in this case, unwarranted. The City Of Poughkeepsie has actually OFFICIALLY awarded a contract for EMS, and to MLSS, who like it or not, will provide great service to the City and will prove that. What is the bad in that? Why is MLSS so different that they can't provide quality EMS like they've proven for 30 years and ACCREDITED and other companies can? Read back on your comments in this thread in a few years.'
  14. I've got more experience with MLSS that dates back many years and goes beyond your percieved limited view based on some incidents only in the City Of Poughkeepsie. They were there long before TC and have hired many former Alamo, Transcare, Sloper, Northern Dutchess employees as well. MLSS is a great company, and they are rooted and their main focus is in the mid-Hudson Valley. They have provided Orange County with excellent service for many years, and they are very progressive. They are nationally accreditted, which is a very hard standard to obtain and maintain. They provide a lot of services Transcare doesn't offer. Their providers have a ton of experience. MLSS even staffs one of the NYS Police medical helicopters. They provide EMD pre-arrival instructions. They have an MCI units. They are part of the Haz-Mat team in Orange and Ulster Counties. A number of their staff are trained in CISM. They give EMS classes locally. Amongst many other things. It's also nice that EMT's in the area have another option if they don't like working for TC. Let's not turn this into a mud-slinging fest between companies again and if that progresses that won't be tolerated. There's no reason for that, MLSS has the contract, and best of luck to them.
  15. Basically, from what I'm seeing, Yonkers FD has been working and fighting hard to keep what they have and aggresively go after grants and whatever funding they can to improve service. Meanwhile, the City Of Yonkers is looking for ways to take a way a lot of provisisons in the YFD contract and is threatening layoffs, despite him (mayor)contradicting himself by saying all these developments in this economy will bring in revenue instantly...supposedly. I would say the current City plan would be to stretch the FD as thin as they can. If they were fully invested and believed in Ridge Hill, they would have already planned and funded a station there as a condition of the development. As far as downtown development, how succesful is that going to be if the City Of Yonkers is cutting PD funding? Crime and gang violence is spiking in Yonkers, and who's going to what to visit downtown...especially if the criminals know they can prey on out of towners? It seems like 36 years later, YFD goes through cycles with the economy and the City is always crying poor despite some prosperity in the past 10 years. These two major developments, and a new large pediatric hospital, yet no more firefighters or fire companies- or PD precincts. The City is skating on thin ice, but Yonkers FD continues to fight to be the best despite these politcal obstacles. Just my opinion.
  16. It's great to see MLSS got it. Are they still the ALS provider for East Fishkill? Also, where will they be responding from? Even better would have been Poughkeepsie Fire EMS but I know that will never happen.
  17. LOL. Just have to defend my country lol! Sorry to take it off topic, now back to regular programming
  18. It was a joke. When you mention "Tex" and the associated attire, it seems to mean you are refering to the stereotypical Texas cowboy lol, which ONLY a NATIVE Texan can be no matter how you dress them up.
  19. Watch it with the stereotypes lol! For AUTHENTIC Texas Country wear, it's worth ordering online: http://www.cavenders.com/
  20. Is MVFD dispatch still in the attic of City Hall? Are they also responsible for EMS calltaking? If so, are they properly staffed for this addition?
  21. Looks to be an awesome job by Croton under difficult conditions at a difficult scene. Remember585, thanks and I appreciate you sharing the photos and details with us a ton.
  22. "Southland", the awesome drama about patrol officers working the streets of Los Angeles, which was cancelled by NBC, has been picked up by TNT. They will start airing the show on January 2nd, starting from the pilot episode and the episodes NBC has already aired. However, they will also be showing the unaired episodes, and depending on ratings, ordering a complete season. This is a great show, and I'm glad TNT picked it up....I think it will do well on TNT.

  24. City Of Round Rock FD's "New" Heavy Rescue 2 1992 Seagrave former Reserve Engine 1 2009/2010 In house conversion by RRFD shops and TRT members. This is a work in progress, they are constantly adding equipment and making modifications as they can in house. One of the major items in the conversion was the removal of the pump, tank, and hosebed, freeing up a TON of space. I will have more in depth photos and detail later this weekend. Special thanks to the members of the RRFD TRT! Drivers side: Where the hosebed and tank were (eventually going to be a slide out tray with cribbing, struts, etc: What was the pump panel officer's side: And BEFORE the conversion: More photos later...
