This concept is sweeping the country. Wonder if we'll ever see it around here? http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/08/health/older-patients-community-paramedics.html?_r=1

Wow, there's actually some people who are against this. Read some of the quotes in the article. http://www.lohud.com/story/opinion/2016/11/03/readers-divided-move-over-law-garbage-trucks/93198384/

I mean, I kind of understand, the people using the roads should be paying for using the roads somehow, but with all the tolls, other taxes, etc in NJ, this is going to hit a lot of wallets hard. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/n-gas-tax-set-rise-49th-6th-highest-u-s-article-1.2851490

Here's an excellent article and profile about Scott, as well as a little bit of history. May be a little old, and some things may have changed, but still very applicable: http://www.scotthealthsafety.com/Americas/en/resources/news/PDFs/_FireApparatusScottProfiler.pdf

I think one of the major factors in Westchester County right now is 911 abuse. You have a large number of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and the such that have greatly increased in the smaller communities in our area over the past few years. My local VAC used to do about 300 calls a year, a large assisted living facility was built several years ago, and now they do close to 1,000 a year. They go to this place 2-3 times day. A lot of these calls aren't even emergencies, or caused by ignorant, poorly trained staff. That's one reason I wouldn't volunteer. Selfish, maybe so but these places are out of control and are burning out volunteers, who also have to spend more and more time training with NYS requirements. A county-wide EMS system is the long term answer. Each agency contracting with a commercial provider for staffing, or hiring their own EMT's in house, is creating a patchwork solution that makes logistics even more complicated and expensive. We could greatly increase patient care while decreasing costs and response time if we went with a countywide EMS model. Maybe even having a commercial provider like Empress contracted to provide EMS with a system status management module based on stationing ambulances in areas depending on volunteer availability and predicted call load would work, especially given they have the infrastructure for an operation of this scale already existing. But, this is Westchester. Anyone who attempts to spearhead a countywide EMS system or even create some sort of required performance metric will surely be crucified and branded as evil. I don't even see a pathway. Where should we be in 5 years, 10 years, etc. Who is studying this? There have been attempts over the years to do different things, but nothing has stuck. Who is, or has the power to, start the ball rolling? Work together, win together.

Although I did not go, and hopefully someone reading this did and can provide more info, I asked a few friends who did attend and I'll summarize the feedback. Of course, everyone loved the host city. Nashville is a great town. I heard the expo was smaller compared to Baltimore. The majority of attendees were from NY or TN. There were some interesting training sessions, and the expo floor was really small, with many manufacturers and vendors not attending. Since this was the first year, maybe next year will see more growth. They have booked the next 3 years in Nashville. Even though when it was in Baltimore and was dying in the last few years of existence there, it still had more potential attendees close by. It's more expensive and time consuming to go to Nashville from the Northeast, and most of the people spending the money and time doing that would rather go to FDIC.

I can't tell if this is satire, but it is on Reuters which is a international news outlet.... http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKCN12Q1B0

So, I watched last night. At first, it was boring and slow, and I was closing my mind to it. However, I stayed with it and it turned out to be pretty good. They were jumping between six departments who were all pretty busy, my only dislike was they didn't stay with each case throughout to see all the factors or conclusion on some of them.

Here's a short article published in the Boston Globe today. It's basically what's been already said in articles above. Yet still NO correlation in my eyes between two different brands of SCBA's reducing muscular injuries and cancer rates. They are talking apples and oranges. http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2016/10/28/boston-firefighters-get-million-worth-new-equipment/IwAceK00jVUfhxzu0dNGWN/story.html?event=event25

Per @SOlsonBFDL14 E-One has won the bid for all 23 Engines, will feature an easy to use pump panel custom designed for Boston, and a return to Jaffrey valves. Prototype in January, delivery will start shortly after approval.
