jetBlue announced it will be flying seasonally from Long Beach, CA to Anchorage, Alaska. http://blog.hellojetblue.com/blog/index.php/2010/10/27/announcing-our-65th-bluecity-anchorage/ Hopefully, the TV's will work and the ones that do will have a decent picture (the main selling point of jetBlue), the plane won't be filthy, the fares will be reasonable, and the crew actually will be nice and helpful. As you can see my love of jetBlue has faded as they've become just like every other airline in my experiences last time I flew them two years ago. It's not the affordable and fun airline like it was a few years ago.

I guess since I've been flying jetBlue since the start especially cross country routes like JFK-Burbank, I used to love them and was one of their biggest fans, even quoted in a Journal News article when they started flying out of Westchester. I guess I've seen a lot of change in jetBlue compared to when they first started. I remember when jetBlue announcing a new destination was a great treat for fans. Most of the people visitng us here in Austin come via the popular JFK-AUS route. Either they have a great flight, they've been doing excellent with arrival and departure time, or a bad experience, like cancelling a flight for no reason, having the TV's not work, lazy apatehtic crew, etc. I don't travel much anymore, and I maybe have traveled jetBlue twice round trip in the past three years. I also miss the old terminal (but it got so crowded toward the end and I HATED the remote terminal), and the new terminal is way too big and a schlep for me, and they ripped off a lot of features from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Also, their points system now suck, I used to get free flights all the time with no blackouts, their fares are no different then American or Continental or Southwest (which I avoid having to fly at all costs since they don't have assigned seating). They have all these new fees which they didn't have before. Anyway, back to the Alaska route. They are going to have a tough time competing with Alaska Airlines, and I don't see the fares being cheap. I have a feeling that Sarah Palin has something to do with this, since when she was campaigning for VP, she chartered a jetBlue plane. I'll still try to fly them if and when I travel again in the future, but there's no more airline loyalty for me, I'll go with whomever has the best fare on that route.

Paramedic Squad 68, one of the busiest in Houston, awaits it's next run..
-
Ah, the Humat valve. I forgot what they called it (thanks Jack and George) but remember it from when I used to go out to LA, where's it's used standard. However, Task Force Tips has been adverstising the "Oasis" valve. Is that any different?
-
The station has an EXCELLENT webpage (a little outdated though): http://firehouse68.com Yep, it's District 68 because it's in District 68. There are 22 Districts in Houston. Don't know why they number them the way they do.

Does Seagrave still make the Lo-Pro chasis?
-
Has anyone gotten this scanner? How do you like it?

Here is the new tower: http://garrisonfire.startlogic.com/newdelivery/52/Arlington.html And here is a special feature by Turborich from several years ago on EMTBravo entitled: Random Arlington Apparatus

Seagrave recently posted on it's website something about it in the last week. I don't know if it is done or not, I can't bring up anything when I click the link? Can anyone else?
-
Thanks Nate, wow I don't even remember that lol. I was just looking on Seagrave's site to see what other chasis they make nowadays, and saw only the Marauder II. A lot of departments NEEDED the Lo-Pro, and it's too bad the EPA cost that chasis it's dearh. Seagrave is a custom builder, so I doubt it had anything to do with the amount sold if they already have the plans and tooling. Does anyone know if their are plans to come out with something equivalent?

If a firefighter or police officer is injured at the scene or in the course of their duties whatever and wherever they may be, and then they die a few days later (or even years from directly attributable to that injury), then it's an LODD, IMHO. Due to the nature of being a firefighter, I'd say a cardiac related death like his if he was pronounced fit for the duties they do and healthy with a recent physical an LODD. This is why EVERY firefighter, especially after 40-50, should have a cardiac stress test and full workup annually in addition to a physical. It may not prevent it, but it may detect something that could potentially save someones life. If this is officially listed as an LODD, then we are inflating our LODD statistics. It's a fine line, I guess.

Nothing can "replace" a Mack! Seriously, hope she finds a good home and Arlington's new rescue has many great years serving the firefighters and citizens of Arlington.

The explanation by one of the guys who works at that station, as far as the aerial, is they wanted the Pierce Aluminum aerial because it offers a wider, easy to climb walkway and is more firefighter friendly then the Ferrara spec'd (Smeal built) sticks did. As far as the push bumper, they are pretty much standard on Texas emergency vehicles for a variety of reasons. One of the main ones is being able to clear disbled vehicles from dangerous locations in emergency situations, and to be able to mount sirens and speakers that can be seen and heard. And on some vehicles, for protection.

Looking through an emergency services classifieds, I saw Mount Kisco's Chevrolet C4500/PL Custom for sale. Didn't Mount Kisco get this a couple of years ago, when Ford was having all the engine problems? Has it just reached it's point in the replacement cycle (still valued according to the ad at $170,000) or is it being sold for another reason? Also, did Mount Kisco ever get a third ambulance?
-
I wasn't looking for a pissing contest or speculation, I know why they bought it as it was discussed on here, just want to know they are selling it. There are several MKVAC members on this forum, and I hope they will share their experience with us on this chasis so we can all learn.

I forgot to add- they still use poles...

I'm going to start pulling out some of the old Feature sections of EMTBravo.com out of the EMTBravo.com "Attic", and re-posting the links to them here. I'm going to start with Hughsonville, NY (Dutchess County) awesome rescue, 45-55. Very well designed, and very well equipped. And versatile to handle Hughsonville's needs. I apprciate the time of Chief to let me photograph it shortly after it was delivered. One of my favorite sets of detail shots. Out of respect for the Chief at the time, comments and questions can be sent to HFD45@aol.com To see the EMTBravo feature taken a few years ago: http://www.emtbravo.com/hugh/HughsonvilleRescue.html To see the EMTBravo feature taken a few years ago: http://www.emtbravo.com/hugh/HughsonvilleRescue.html Out of respect for the Chief at the time, comments and questions can be sent to HFD45@aol.com

It looks great! But $89.00 is very steep for a 1/64th die cast, especially in this economy. I realize all the research and development that went into this new tool, but still..... I'm saving what little I have for the FDNY Marauder II mold next year...hope it is affordable. But do I wait, because prices always significantly go down it seems in a few months, or it sells out.....

Members, I am overwhelmed with personal messages and emails all expressing support for this site. At last count, there were just over 350 and counting. I can't believe the spectrum of people I've heard from. Each one means a ton to me and is very well written, and I have put them into a special folder so when I get frustrated with this site, I can look and see why I put up with it. I am going to reply to each and every one, it may just take me a while. Thank you so much for taking the time to write. Also, the staff is working with me to deal with my personal issues. I will probably take a big step back and just work on the development of this site, something which I enjoy. As for my health, I'm not in a good place right now in that respect and it's complicated. I'm also unemployed due to my illness.I have a baby daughter which has changed my life in such a positive way, and I want to spend as much time with her as possible. At the time, after thinking about it for several days, I decided to shut down the site impulsively, for a few reasons, without talking to the staff first and exploring our options. The staff is a MAJOR part of this site, and I couldn't do it without them. I sincerely regret the way I handled it, and I take full responsibility for my actions. I also apologize to that staff that I caused problems for now and in the future, and damaging the credibility of this site for some. I am also so truly grateful for the donations to the site, which means I won't have to worry about the cost of running this website for a while, and hopefully will give me time to solicit some advertisers and maybe plan a subscription program to cover the costs in the future. This takes a HUGE burden off my back, decreasing a stress factor leading me to almost give up. It also paid the debt of the site hosting fee last month which I placed on my maxed out credit card, and for the faster server (which didn't add monthly cost). I NEVER expected so many people to come forward and dig into their pockets to make sure that this site stayed online. I really didn't mean to push people into donating, and anybody who feels like I did, I will refund your money. I'm excited that in a few weeks, EMTBravo.NET will celebrate 7 years online, and also hope this message made sense. Thanks again for all your support, patience, and being a member of this site. Seth Granville Founder, EMTBravo

Go for it! I'll help you (if you want), I can help write so we can get this book out by FDIC, and we can find an online publisher, with proceeds going towards your fight. Give Jody a rep for his great initiative!!

38FF, that is a good one! Describes it perfectly. LOL.

EMTBravo WILL NOT shut down. See "Members Save EMTBravo From Shutting Down" topic in this forum. Since this topic is no longer valid, I will lock in as to not confuse members. Seth

Marilyn Peloke, from Marilyn and Gil's Fire Station, the fire service collectibles store in Catskill, NY but known for the many fire service events she atteneded with her traveling store, died in September under the care of hospice, after a battle with Alzheimers. I know I'm a little late with this, but Marilyn really was such a nice lady and a fixture at musters, trade shows, etc. She did it right up until she couldn't anymore. She was pre-internet days, with the only hi tech method of ordering from her by phone.
