Universal health care, and better interfacing of EMS personel with aviation transport providers. How is someone who is in such critical condition that they need to be flown by helicopter, going to be able to verbalize or judge whether they need the helicopter? What happens if, scenario down here, you are two hours by ground with a signifcant trauma and the helicopter makes the best sense, but the patient can't afford it? If EMS transport is only going to be for the wealthy, and not available to the poor and vunerable, then there's something seriously wrong. Also, if we're going to put a price tag on emergency healthcare, there's a potential people are going to pause to think before calling 911. Somebody has to pay, and that should be the health insurer. EMS should have to follow certain criteria, and interfacility as well. If the criteria is not followed and documented, then the EMS Agency or Hospital should have to pay. If the patient does need a helicopter, then the insurance company should pay. And the judgement aspect should be looked at via the facts found at the scene, rather then after the fact. Also, not all air transport medical providers are the same, or have the same motive.

I'm suuprised no one on the ground was videotaping. You don't have Helmet Cams on your rescue helmets for PR, training, and when funding time comes around?

One of the big things about having ISO rating down here....having a proper hydrant system with good pressure!

ISO discussion has been split into it's own topic at the following link: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=39503

Seems a bit shady right now.....not a lot of info on how they are going to fund and implement their plan, and no mention how they are going to intergrate with FDNY.

Without Detective/Chief Pilot Lieberman and Aviation Officer Powers and the Texas-made Bell 407 ready to go, this would have been a good special call for Mahopac Fall's Hovercraft......and now maybe an excuse for Croton FD to get one, lol.

So I'm straight, Larchmont has 2 Engines, and new ALF, the Tower Ladder, and the Rescue? The Seagrave was replaced by the ALF? Is the Pierce done with Larchmont?
-
Prettty funny, I have had momenets like these after waiting and waiting and then changing the channel, lol. http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/20101119/cm_huffpost/785658_201011181947/

Great work Detective/Chief Pilot Lieberman and Aviation Officer Powers! And I agree with BFD1054, great call by the IC...I saw that in the Incident Alert and thought that this was going to be a good save! Also, be sure to give EMSjunkie a +1 rep point for his excellent Incident Alert! (Click the "" in the bottom left hand corner of his post) and for any member deserving of a rep point in any posting! Thanks for the photo! That Engine fits right in! Did Larchmont take delivery of the new ALF yet? To note, Yonkers is very generous in lending their spare pool to departments in need (Pelham Manor, Mount Vernon, Larchmont, and New Rochelle have all borrowed from Yonkers in recent memory), and this isn't the first time Yonkers has lent an engine to Larchmont. I remember them borrowing a Mack CF several years back (Photo courtesy LFD171)

I'ts been a while since I have been to Westchester County PD Headquarters in Hawthorne (2000 was the last time I think), but I've got some questions. What is the staffing of WCPD Communications now? Has the room been completly renovated, modernized, or expanded? Is their a new CAD (not ALECS) that has been put in use? Also, regarding 60 Control: I know for a while it was talked about that County PD Communications and 60 Control would share a building on the Grasslands Reservation. I take it this proposal is still stuck in limbo? Also, 60 Control's facilities have been outgrown since I worked there......and as of 2006-ish there was supposedly a committee looking into expansion or renovation. I can only imagine what it's like now with the increased call volume, agencies, and equipment. Have they expanded their facilities? I know many upgrades were made, and some space was freed up by the apparatus storage/warehouse facility. Don't forget I'm down here in Texas and haven't been to NY in over two years, so I'm kinda out of the loop, lol.

http://www.kvue.com/news/-City-of-Austin-to-hire-record-number-of-firefighters-108791809.html Austin, TX, located in the Texas "Hill Country" in the central part of the state, is constantly ranked in various surveys as one of America's best places to live. It's the State Capitol, as well as home to the University Of Texas. The cost of living is extremly affordable, and the city and surrounding areas have things to do for everybody, including a several very large recreational lakes for those that like to boat or be on the water.

Well, not really. They are opening a new station next month, but those vacancies were filled via internal transfers, so they left openings with other companies. There are other new stations planned as well, but they won't start building until they have enough firefighters (passed their probie period). Then, firefighter will transfer to the new stations, tehcnically creating "new" vacancies.

Excellent photos, George! Thank you so much for sharing them with us! After seeing on of those competitions in person a few years back, I've got to say that's one of the toughest sporting events out there!

Are the Town Of Ossining PD Cars going to be marked for Ossining, or are they going to be converted or disposed of?

Now that is a fine example of a solider!!! His actions were beyond heroic, and he obviously is very skilled.

Again, Yonkers Government is slinging mud at Yonkers FD. I thought they were slinging mud at the PD today for using too much OT that they themselves created? There are sick leave abusers in every agency anywhere you go. If Yonkers FD has an issue, then it should be dealt with by Yonkers FD. The City didn't seem to have a problem with it when the budget was prosperous, now instead of taking responsibiltiy for their failure to plan financially and forethought of their actions, they are demonizing the members of one of the best urban fire departments in the nation. Did they take into account that firefighters don't work 9-5, so 9 sick days really isn't much considering every day is a work day? Also, maybe they should evaluate the general health and well being of their firefighters. Maybe they'd find that the money they saved laying off firefighters has health implications due to increased workload on the remaining firefighters. I wish Yonkers FD's Union would "anaylyze" some of Spector's expenses.

Newark is so corrupt it's never going to be fixed. The only thing they've got going emergency-service wise is UMDNJ EMS, which they actually don't have anything to do with. Facebook Founder Mark Zuckenberg recently gave Newark schools $100 million, yes $100 million, to go from the worst school system to the model for inner urban school systems. The situation in Newark was highlighted in the movie "Waiting For Superman". Mayor Corey Booker has the right intentions with this, but Newark is so infested with gangs and parents that don't care that there's never going to be any real change. Same goes for the citizens of Newark. Most of the elderly, longtime residents of the City feel trapped in their own houses, afraid to go out due to the crime and violence. And very few residents own their homes or are invested in the community. The only vibrant part of the city is segragated, the 99% hispanic "Ironbound" section. Newark, which was a propsering, great city at on time, was irreversibly damaged during the riots. To lay off Cops is letting the gangs grow larger and is making it more dangerous for the officers that are already out there. The fire department was in the process of getting it's act together over the past few years and making improvements, is now back to Sqaure 1.

Members, Today (Nov.14) marks the 7th year that EMTBravo.net (Forums) has been online. EMTBravo.com, which is what these forums were born from, will celebrate it's 8th year this upcoming January. (The name, "EMTBravo", orginated from my AOL screen name which I had for years). And for those that wonder why somebody in Texas is involved with this site, here's why and a little about me. I started at 14 years old, in 1993, as an Explorer with the Ardsley Fire Department in Ardsley NY where I Explorer Post Captain for almost the duration of my time there. I then continued on as a volunteer firefighter and Explorer post advisor with Ardsley FD when I turned 18. I took my EMT class at Irvington VAC, and went to work as an EMT for Empress EMS, which helped shape me and gave me a solid foundation for the rest of my career. I also worked part time in the ER of Stamford Hospital as an ER tech. I was lucky enough to get hired by 60 Control, where I worked as a Dispatcher. During that time, I loved working for 60 Control and loved the people I worked with. However, during the course of my employment there, my father was tragically killed and my Grandmother died a year later after a long battle with cancer, leading me to re-evaluate what I was doing and where I wanted to be in life. In 2003, I decided to go to college, and moved to Woburn, MA and attended Paramedic school at Northeastern University in Boston. After graduating in 2004, I moved back to Hartsdale and went to work for Westcheser EMS, and worked the "45 Medics" flycar system, and dispatcher. In September of 2005, my dream of being a career firefighter came true, and I got hired by the Hartsdale Fire District. I was blessed to have academy instructors who served as great role models for me, and I did things I never thougt I could do. To this day, I still use the lessons they taught me. In January 2007, I was injured severly. After several months, I was declared unfit to be a firefighter due to a traumatic brain injury and a spinal cord injury. My department did not have any light duty positions, so I was out of a job and couldn't work as a firefighter again. I loved being a firefighter in Hartsdale and the loss of that career was devastating, and still bothers me to this day. Karma came around, and my wife and I decided to move to Round Rock, just north of Austin, in the central part of Texas. We've been here for almost three years now, and as many of you know, my daughter was just born 3 months ago on my birthday. I hope to live down here for the rest of my life, and I would never have this life living in Westchester. Why am I giving you my bio? Because I feel that many people don't know me and there are some misconceptions. Getting back on topic, the idea for a forums portion of the site sparked from the very succesful "News" section of EMTBravo.com, in which people sent me news and photos and I posted on, what at the time was my personal small website (this is WAY before Facebook, etc even existed). From my apartment in Boston while attending Paramedic school at Northeastern University, the idea sparked and I pulled an all-nighter to get the forum going. It was meant to create an online community where those and those with an interest in the emergency services community could come together and communicate. And every day I log on, I am amazed that the forum keeps growing and has such a great, knowledgable membership . We also have other EMTBravo forums, EMTBravoWest.com (LA, Phoenix, San Francisco, etc), EMTBravoSouth.com, and EMTBravoNewEngland.com I have been honored to have THE best forum staff I've ever had, who have made continuing to run this forum possible. They take care of all the day-to-day things that come up, as well as long term stuff. They keep me on track, and I couldn't do it without them. Of course, there's been negativity and conterversy on and about this site over the years, but the good FAR outweighs the bad. There have been members who wish to cause trouble or spread rumors or don't accept modern social media, but I believe that we have been on the forefront of trying to keep this site positive and on the right path. Before this site, nothing like this existed for the emergency services communinities in the areas we serve. A lot of valuable information has been spread on these forum, friendshsips forged and reignited, and all the other benefits a website such as this provides. We will continue to spearhead a new path and become an even better resource for our members, using our member's knowledge and feedback as our fuel. I'd like to thank all the dedicated and loyal members of this site, who post, contribute, and read the site and make it what it is. Many have been with us since day 1. I'd also like to thank those that generously donate funds or advertise on the site, so I am able to afford to pay for these forum. And I'm especially thankful for the staff team who volunteer countless hours of their time each day ti take care of the day to day operation of the site, taking a huge burden off my shoulders so I can concentrate on administrative, IT, and development stuff. I'd also like to thank the 450+ members who sent very encouraging and supportive emails which refreshed why I continue to help run this site with our staff when I wanted to shut down the site impulsively several weeks ago. And those who generously made donations, so that our financial future was secure And most especially, the active members of this forum who post and make use of this forum, and share their knowledge and opinions, for which if they didn't, this forum wouldn't be. Once again, THANK YOU to all the members and staff that make this site possible for the past 7 years, and I, with the EMTBravo team, look foward to making sure this forum is the best it can be for our EMTBravo members!! If you have any questions about EMTBravo.net's history, please do ask on this thread, and I'd be more then happy to tell!! One of my favorite books, "The Last Men Out" by Tom Downey, is now available in softcover. The reason I'm posting is not only is this a very accuracate account of FDNY firefighters serving at Rescue 2 in Brooklyn, but the $11.55 softcover price makes it a must read! Available from: http://www.amazon.com/Last-Men-Out-Rescue-Firehouse/dp/0805078444/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289872162&sr=8-1 Also available from: http://www.fire-police-ems.com/books/bl3456.shtml (support a small business firefighter specific bookstore by purchasing here) Book available from and information by: http://www.fire-police-ems.com/books/bl3456.shtml

Thanks guys! Also, thanks Jack!! You described it better then I ever could. I'm very thankful for a great staff that takes a tremendous burden of the day-to-day operations of this site off my shoulders as it has grown, so I could keep pace with all the other things that need doing. This forum wouldn't be possible without great staff (just an example) like you!
