So, because of the Quint they were focusing less on training? And less fires means they should be less prepared? So, EMS is more of a priority then fires? But they gave up their ambulance because of staffing problems? The fact it was only put into use four times in 3 years sounds like the only reason for that is that the truck wasn't getting out to even be used. If that was the justification for getting rid of the ladder, we'd probably lose 75% of all the aerials in Westchester. I know I'm kinda armchair quarterbacking, but these articles are well written and contain a lot of the facts, answering a lot of my questions. Although I don't think it's completely absurd for them to rely on mutual aid ladders, they have a very versatile first due structural piece, and it is such a waste for them to get rid of.

I found some more information on this story, some of it somewhat concerning. From: WINY 1350 AM

Does it irk anyone else that no one follows the move over laws? On top of that, when you are trying to move over, people won't let you in. Do PD's ever sit there with their lights on, and peg people who don't move over? I always hope I will see that. 'Cause if they don't, I'd love to see something like that more often. Just a tiny rant.

Very cool! Thanks for the info. Any chance we could get some "Spy Shots"?

Interesting and, although not in our area, somewhat applicable to our area article. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/editorials/2016/11/01/editorial-ems-mergers-make-sense.html

It's a mix. Some do, some don't. It used to be that nursing homes and other care venues had what was called a "Private Emergency" which they requested EMS directly from their contract EMS service. The issue now is there are residential senior assisted living facilities popping up all over, and if an attendant sees a stubbed toe, they call 911.

Here's a photo of the new sign on display at a Thruway rest stop that I took yesterday.

I can't tell if he was "leg locked" or not? Either way, the result would be the same with the ladder going over, but I wonder what the difference in injuries could have been.

Finally, some PR. I think the signage is MUCH needed to educate the public. I'd rather see these then those "Taste NY" signs. http://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-cuomo-announces-campaign-raise-awareness-move-over-law

Wow. That is BUDGET! I'd expect to see something like that in a backwoods place. But I guess it does the job in a creative way.

I found this article to be really interesting. Not something I ever thought of, and I know a lot of firefighters with hypertension. https://www.firerescue1.com/fire-products/fire-rehab/articles/46878018-Why-firefighter-high-blood-pressure-is-different/

What always gets me about Greenwich is that they are one of the wealthiest communities in the entire nation. How they can not afford to properly staff an engine is beyond me.

No, Donald. Firefighters being shot at is not a "new" problem, and are isolated incidents that happen rarely (West Webster NY). And people do know about it. More firefighters are being killed by heart attacks, cancer, suicide, building construction, and low staffing DAILY then bullets.
