  1. I haven't heard much about this program? Is this the one where FDNY staffs an ambulance to pick up and deliver organs?
  2. Besides the residential population, I wonder what the population swells to during the day, PLUS at night with all the people that visit NYC and go to school in NYC. I honestly think this is yet another example of a department that has had decades of poor financial planning. When finances are good, it's spend spend spend, even on things that are not needed. When finances are bad it's cut cut cut. The finance laws need major reform to go to the very basic principles of being able to "save money for a rainy day". I also think politicians need more "hands on experience". Take the Mayor and City Council and host a one-day "Academy" to show why every bit of manpower is needed. Also, I feel FDNY EMS should be some level of firefighters so they can also supplement staffing, the same way they do it in other major cities like Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, etc without it affecting apparatus staffing.

  4. I've already got that function installed in my wife's point and shoot. (Canon Powershot) via an "Eye Fi" card: http://www.amazon.com/Eye-Fi-Connect-Wireless-Memory-EYE-FI-4CN/dp/B003DV4234/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291828958&sr=8-1 You're going to start seeing a lot of new features in upcoming point and shoots, including geotagging and built in Wi-Fi. I wouldn't even be suprised if one of the camera manufacturers came up with or teamed up with a cell phone manufacturer to make a camera that's already a phone. I also agree that the point and shoot's not going anywhere for now. I keep a Canon S95 or another Powershot with me at all times, and it takes a thousand times better photos. You can't replace a good lens with a cell phone camera, nor can you replace the inner workings of a camera.
  5. TXChief may be able to better explain this, but from what I understand, in most areas, they run with Engine companies as a truck. I believe the pump/tank/hose is there as an auxillary tool, so the Quint can be sufficient for master streams, and run as an Engine company when needed.
  6. Good work, Moose! Glad the town didn't lay you off! Also glad this got picked up by the media! http://www.lohud.com/article/20101207/NEWS02/12070381/Yorktown-police-dog-helps-capture-theft-suspect
  7. For the younger generation of this forum that didn't know Ray's impact. The Online Condolence Card can be signed in the "In Memorium" section of the site. http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=39641
  8. For the younger generation of this forum that didn't know Ray's impact. Here's another article: http://www.lohud.com/article/201012060365 Please sign the condolence card, even if you didn't know Ray, because quite possibly, the Westchester Fire Service wouldn't have been the same without him: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=39641
  9. Great photos! Wonder what happened to that GMC Engine and Mack C Engine?
  10. Great photos! Thanks for sharing, Tommy! Wonder what happened to that GMC Engine and Mack C Engine?
  11. Does anyone know who is currently building the bodies for NYPD's RMP ESU units, and out of what type of metal?
  12. The new season of "American Chopper: Sr. Vs. Jr." starts tonight, back on the Discovery Channel after a run on their sister network TLC. I still like the show, it's a guilty pleasure I guess, since I feel that it glorifies how much that network destroyed that family-seemingly they enjoy doing that based on their TLC programming
  13. Sorry to hear about your accident. Don't forget about the EMTBravo Classifieds, free to list your bike for sale: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?app=classifieds
  14. Plus Discovery paid for the building, with the condition OCC sign a 10 year contract when the show was at it's peak. I think part of the reason is the economy hit them hard. Corporations can't afford or justify building a highly customized choppers for promotional reasons anymore, unless it's going to be featured promintetly on the show. And the other part of the clientele doesn't have money for that type of discretionary spending, either. I also think for a while it was a "fad", but not one that goes away for the true enthusiast. I think the move to the TLC Network from Discovery was a bad idea, and glad it is now back on Discovery. TLC like's to take advantage of different family scenarios for profit (the whole Kate Gosselin thing, "SisterWives", even a show about "little people" who make chocolate. These people make the tabloids every week, and the more the drama, the more the ratings. It's sad to hear the drama is real, but I'm sure the Discovery Channel isn't doing one thing to help repair any wounds.
  15. Wait, so NYPD is going with a medium duty chasis? I saw a prototype of an NYPD ESU unit on a GMC-4500 chasis, which is no longer in production. I just remembered that. The only reason I think a medium duty chasis would work is because of all the increased equipment (=weight) that they are carrying. However, the new Ford F-550 Super Duty chasis is very comprable to some of the Medium duty chasis on the market. And does NYPD still remount the bodies?
  16. **THIS THREAD WILL SERVE AS AN ONLINE CONDOLENCE CARD AND WILL BE GIVEN TO THE FAMILY AND EFD WHEN EVERYONE HAS HAD A REASONABLE TIME TO SIGN** FOR WAKE AND FUNERAL INFORMATION:http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=39657 Ray Rush, former Westchester County Fire Coordinator (the equivalent of the DES commisioner at the time), passed away last night. Ray was also an active Elmsford Fire And EMS member and ex-Chief. Ray was also one of the orginal EMT instructors in Westchester, with many EMT's in Westchester being trained by him. Ray Rush is also the father of current Hartsdale FD Chief Ed Rush. In addition, he leaves behind many other Rush family members including grandchildren who are currently carrying on his legacy in Elmsford FD. He also will be missed by the hundreds of friends he's made along his way in life. Rest in peace, Ray, you will be missed. If someone would post wake and funeral arrangements when they are available, it would be greatly appreciated. If someone could also email me a photo to seth@emtbravo.com so I could post a memorial on the front page I'd also really appreciate that. Again my email is seth@emtbravo.com
  17. I don't think I have a spoon big enough for this pot, lol.
  18. I was just watching an episode of "Holmes On Homes", and it featured rusting steel studs in residential framing. The show is basically about contractors who screw people over and Mike Holmes comes to their rescue, exposes the bad and fixes it. So this got me thinking, can steel studs actually rust, and eventually cause structural comprimise? I know these are used mostly in commercial application, but with some of the lightweight construction and maybe throw in a slow water leak over time?
  19. And that's very much appreciated. We're a community here, so the more we all contribute, the better the site is. Not just you, but the entire membership is what powers this site.
  20. This is a subjective observation. The forum operates 24/7/365, with thousands of topics being posted and discussed yearly. A lot of these topics are to pass along information about different things, and others are posted for a multitude of other reasons, including discussion-whether intended or not. Some topics interest some, others don't. However, if you look through all the topics, there are some great posts to be found. The way a member uses to read through the new topics or postings since their last visit can sometimes also be to blame, I have noticed. We do reconize that we have some very talented and knowledgable members on this forum, and are currently working on a program to improve and promote more informative and educational topics from some very rich minds. We hope to release more information on this soon. Seth
  21. From an Austin-Travis County (TX) EMS press release:
  22. Here is some more detailed information on the ATCEMS fleet and the solar power program: http://www.statesman.com/news/local/austin-ambulances-going-green-1065133.html?srcTrk=RTR_504016
  23. Having worked Somers Dispatch while a Paramedic at Westchester EMS, as well as having worked at 60 Control, I must say this has been a hot topic in Somers for a while. When I was there, I contended that the money could be better used to staff the ambulance. Anyways, the way it was always explained to me, is that the commisioners feel they would lose a lot of "control" by switching to 60 Control. They want things done their own way, and basically have their own control center, in addition to dispatch center. This canidate seems qualified and has a very informative web page, but I disagree with his misleading assertions about communications. Many of the things he states 60 Control does not provide, if even true, Somers could still find a way to do while being still being dispatched by 60 Control. Amongst other examples, Bedford Hills has intergrated a lot of the technology themselves while being dispatched by 60 Control that Somers claims they wouldn't get.
  24. Ford is not only replacing the Crown Vic PI, but introducing two new "Police Interceptor" vehices, a sedan based on the Taurus platform, and looks like the other "PI Utility" is based on the new 2011 Ford Explorer platfurm. Pretty cool website, can't wait to see them on the streets. http://www.fordvehicles.com/fordpoliceinterceptor/?bannerid=1030414|56135222|232294451|39207669&referrer=N3016.277349.OFFICER
